EDIT: Sony Michel to miss some time after minor knee procedure

The tone might have rough but his point is valid. Michel is a one contract proposition and not someone who will help bridge anything past Brady. He has been selected to have an impact NOW (next 2-3 years) while Brady is still here.
I suppose it would depend on one's opinion of how long they expect Brady to keep playing. Personally, I think we can safely assume 2 more seasons with a shot at a 3rd, but I also think that could change if the Pats win another Super Bowl, too.

Since first round picks often get the 5th year option (we hope), it's possible that Michel could play 2-3 years with Brady and 2-3 years without him. It’s also possible that Belichick may be looking to take advantage of Brady’s cerebral strengths—which may be the best ever—while also expecting some level of decline in arm strength and athletic ability. As we know, it’s not unusual for a QB getting up there in years to start to rely on the running game a bit more than in the past, and I think this may be Darryl’s bottom line.

I don’t know if this message got lost in translation or if he simply worded it poorly, as I don’t really care enough to go back and re-read, but judging from the context, I’m guessing that I’m somewhere in the ballpark as it pertains to what his point was.

I pulled up his posts at some dinkbrain fantasy board to illustrate his severe "always right" disease. From now on I'm just going to agree with everything he posts, no matter how obtuse he gets.

So he got into your head that much that you spend time searching for his username in hope to find stuff to call him out on ? Jebus, Joker.. dont let them get to you.. usually you just shrug those things off..

So you think the team that would not pay any RBs would pick up an option that will most probably end up somewhere in the 6-7m range ?

To me it is more likely that he will be traded like Jones in his fourth year than the team paying a RB that amount of money. He would have to become a legit superstar for that amount to be value and even then you wonder what you could get back in a trade instead.

I understand where the OP was coming from but in this case the timing and the type of player just dont line up with his argument. Michel is a NOW acquisition and not a gift for whoever follows 12.

OTOH, BB's post-Brady roster-building strategy may be different (assuming BB doesn't retire in tandem with Brady). BB adjusts his approach situationally better and more readily than pretty much everyone else - maybe ever.

Totally agree that why I usually have a laugh when people say BB only gets away with certain things because of Brady because from my point of view those people have the causality wrong: He knows he can get away with certain things so he does them and keeps us competing with on-the-fly rebuilds.

I think they would’ve seen value with keeping Jones for a 5th year if he hadn’t gone completely nutty on them. For Michel, who knows, but if anyone is considering either picking up the fifth year or selling high via trade in year four, it’s because he was successful, so that would be a good thing. It has been suggested by some that the decision to spend a first round pick at RB may have been partially due to the idea of being able to have the team option in year five.

Either way, it would still depend on one’s personal opinion for how much longer Brady stays. He could be gone in two years. That’s a distinct reality. It’s not out of the realm of possibility to think that they could be a team that relies more on the run, should that happen. I’m not sure that I’d agree that Michel was specifically taken for that reason, but I don’t think the idea is quite as far fetched as some have suggested, either.
