If Manziel was brought into camp to compete for a roster spot, it would only be slightly more rediculous than when Tebow was there. He would be nothing more than a camp body and a complete effing long shot to make the roster.

Kind of like 6th round draft picks!

Had Flutie been given a fair shot, I have little doubt he would have been an excellent NFL QB

I don’t think Tebow was “hated” in general because of his beliefs. Russell Wilson is very candid about his Christian faith too and nobody said much about it. I think even Kaepernick was at one time.

It was the Tebow cult that turned people off. We saw it on this board. There were quite a few vocal posters here they were not Pats fans or football fans at all...and most of them remained non fans after they left.

Look everyone hated and mocked Tebow because he did not hide his Christianity and that really makes a lot of people angry. He didn't force any of it to anyone. He did not kneel down or raise his fist. It was right for him. After a game he prayed in solitude and not to gain attention, but the media focused on that as being divisive. Yet, he was and is a laughing stock. The kid was unconventional for sure but he won games including a play off. There were a lot of people that played QB in the NFL with talent on his level. Jeff Garcia won a lot of games. Mike Vick was a good running QB. Passer? Not so much. How many of us cheered Flutie? When you have a Nate Peterman and Tom Savage staring and Mike Glennon being a sought after QB....why not Johhny?

If BB could deal with Tebow, Haynesworth, Dillion and the evil side of Randy Moss, if you can have Manziel to agree to be tested EVERY DAY!!!, we gave that plague on society Tebow a try out, why not Manziel?

Ryan Mallet was no choir boy. He hid his shenanigans better than Manziel.

DW Toys

This can't be serious. Did you really just pretend that Garcia, Vick and Flutie weren't miles better than Tim Tebow? Vick wasn't a great passer, but he was MUCH better than Tebow.

Tebow got chance after chance, after chance to stick in the NFL. He couldn't make it because he's not NFL caliber talent. Not even as a backup. There was no conspiracy. His obsession with his religion had not one damn thing to do with it. Coaches want to win. They will sign anybody who helps them do that, regardless of anything else. It why the league is full of criminals.

Get a grip. The evidence is overwhelming. Tebow was a terrible QB.

The difference being, Flutie could play.

Well, he wasn’t an alcoholic or a head case like Johnny. I think Manzel is very talented but QB’s need to be gifted mentally as well

We were there ...

Manziel throws at USD; 13 NFL teams watch

Scouts from 13 NFL teams were on hand to watch Manziel throw. The Browns, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were represented.

Manziel, 25, showed the arm strength and athleticism that helped him become the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy. The former Texas A&M star attempted 38 passes, with two misses, in light rain.

The popular opinion is going to be about making a bunch of jokes about how bad of an idea it’d be to sign him. I say give it a shot.

If the guy really wants to come beck, why not sign him for the minimum? No one can deny how much talent the guy has.

And if he really has gotten his head on straight, it’s a huge steal.

I can deny it.

57% comp rating, 1.0 td-int ratio, 23 rushing yards per game. Dude is a JAG

Could Manziel play corner?

Ooh I know, we could force him to become a slot reciever

Excuse me, but I believe the question of the day is still, "But can he play LT?"

I wish I believed this. Eric Reid and Colin Kaepernick would be cheap upgrades on MANY teams, yet neither have a job and CK likely never will.

Manziel signs a contract, in 2 years takes over for Brady after Brady retires (with Championship #6), and leads them to 5 more Championships in 15 years. Hollywood ending.

We've been through this what seems to be about a million times before, but ....
32 NFL teams

Going into this season (after expected draft moves), where are sensible landing spots for Kaepernick?

Denver would have been - last year. Colts, too.

I haven't been through it a million times before, and really don't want to go through it now. I think he's better than most of the back up and some of the starters out there. You don't. Agree to disagree. McCown? Kizer?

Kaepernick's got a specific skill set that doesn't involve reading from the pocket, or accuracy, as strong points, so his fit is going to be limited, and that's before we even take other issues into account. Denver had a first round pick that they wanted to give a chance, among their other QBs. Kaepernick was not a fit there. The Colts don't run an offense for Kaepernick, so he was not a fit there.

You're underselling what McCown's been able to do in recent years. His numbers match up fine with Kaepernick, even with Kaepernick's best season included (Going 5 playing seasons back):

Josh McCown Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Colin Kaepernick Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

and look even better if you just go back a more reasonable amount of time (say 2 or 3 playing seasons).

Kizer sucks, but he was a high pick that they wanted to give a chance. But, if you want to put Cleveland on the list, ok, that's one. Seattle was a reasonable possibility, but he didn't end up signing there. That's two. There were enough similarities to Taylor's game that he might, possibly, have fit in Buffalo. After that, there's not much left in terms of fitting options.

And the potential good fit sort of openings aren't likely to be any less limited this year, with all the young QBs expected to come into the league at the top of the draft.
