Eli Manning: An end of an era....

At this point in Geno Smith's career, you know exactly what you are getting. He has plateau'ed as far as QB development. He's not going to get better. So I am assuming that the Giants are putting him in to tank their way into grabbing a top 3 QB. For me, there is no other plausible scenario. Geno Smith will not change anything.
You have no way of knowing that.
Geno played in a horrible system with a weak supporting cast and was thrown in as a rookie and 2 nd year player. That is his only experience so it is ridiculous to say a player peaked under those circumstances.
Perhaps he had learned nothing but the idea a qb peaks by year 2 is just silly.

This is his 5th season. Please let me know how many starting QB's you know that suddenly became a star in the NFL after their 5th season. Kinda late, don't you think?

He hasn’t played since year 2 so you are judging him by how h played when thrown to the wolves as a qb who came in not nfl ready and was coached by a staff that couldn’t develop a qb to save its life.

Steve young
Aaron Rodgers
Jim plunkett
Vinny testaverde
Rich Gannon
Drew Brees
Dan fouts
Tony romo
Phil Simms
Alex Smith
Trent green

Are all examples of Qbs who at about the same point in their careers played much better.
The list based upon 2 years starting is much longer.

You are probably correct that he was thrown into the water before he could learn how to swim and as we have seen, that is very damaging to young, promising quarterbacks. They almost never rebound.

And in that regard, your list doesn't apply because for example, Rodgers and Young spent years being groomed before they blossomed into starting QB's. Also note that I said "starting QB's" not those who spent years riding the bench before getting their first shot.

But let's see how Geno fares in the last five games (if he lasts that long). If he somehow strings together more wins than losses, then I'll do a mea culpa, but if he loses more than he wins, you eat crow. Capisce?

Geno Smith sucks and has always sucked. He will suck this weekend. In fact, I think the Giants idea is to start Gee-No! for a couple of series and then replace him with the kid.Softens the blow for everyone except Ecry.

Whats going on with the sports memorabilia racket he was running? Did that get squashed just like every other Manning impropriety?

That could be a larger factor than we know. Maybe Eli asked for time off to focus on preparing his defense against the fake memorabilia scam he was participating in. If I worked for a clickbait site, I would definitely float that theory out there.

Both McAdoo and Reese are just counting the days until they are formally fired. I'm pretty sure that McAdoo is only doing what he's told now.

My guess is that Mara wants to see Davis Webb, but probably felt they had to give the first start to the veteran. It's a pretty sure bet that Geno will stink badly enough that they won't have to explain why they're replacing him with Webb. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Webb starts at least three if not four of their five remaining games.
I heard that Mara wasn't at the facility the day they announced the benching of Eli. Coward.

Either he will be traded or that he will be retiring!

John Mara: “Complete BS” to say Giants are tanking

Good to see Giants ownership willing to lie to the public, when everyone with even the slightestevery caual fans can see th understanding of how sports works knows that they're tanking.
Exactly.

Exactly. Even every casual fan, knows the Gnats are sucking for "picks". Please. Geno?? LOL

The sad thing is that tanking is a terrible strategy in the NFL. It works in the NBA where one player can change a franchise instantly. But the draft in the NFL is a crap-shoot and one player can't make that much of a difference, except at QB, where there are almost never obvious choices (look at all the #1 pick QBs that were busts).

So you are just subjecting your fans to a losing team instead of using the season productively to evaluate the talent you have better.

Yes. That's why it seems that much more ridiculous.

Maybe Eli should end up in Arizona.

Seems logical. If I was Eli, I'd be pissed.

Eli Manning isn't as good as Terry Bradshaw on his best day.

Yes he was QB for a dominant defense but when measuring greatness like Bradshaw, Bart Starr, Staubach, Brady and Unitas, etc you need to throw stats out of the window.
When you look at Bradshaw and other QBs from that era, it's imperative to remember that there were basically no rules about manhandling receivers until the ball was in the air. Lots more interceptions and lower completion rates then. Bradshaw would have been even better under today's rules.

Right. Back in the 60s and 70s if you only threw a pick a game you were considered very careful with the football. Now it'll get you benched.

Yesterday Francesa was still melting down. He spent a good hour reading Mara's comments to the media and shredding him in the process

Maybe Gino hasn’t plateaued, so the question is, “can he improve from horrible?”

Hey, as long as the Giants don’t sign Kaepernick, they’ll be ok

Yup this move was all about the higher draft pick.
