Eli Manning: An end of an era....

Twice he was part of team (a New York team to boot) that rode a lucky streak to steal this team’s glory, one of which was undefeated immortality.

I have no words of praise for a career average quarterback. Wait, maybe I do.. sorry you got replaced by Geno “knocked out by my own teammate” Smith? Oh well, you kept your “start streak” alive long enough. Feel free to retire now.

Honestly I hated the giants for the longest after the first SB loss, they got lucky and won, sometimes you need some luck to win the big one, look at the Butler INT, then the miraculous catch by JE and of course the strip fumble caused by Hightower, most of the recent SBs have been close and it came down to some luck except the two SBs that the Broncos were in.
With that said I thought Eli was cool for the most part, didn’t like his older brother, just never liked Peyton, but I thought Eli was chill, he was an above average QB in his prime, but for the last 5+ season he started declining faster than his brother.

Which brings back to Tom, he at age 40 can still Sling it down the field and absorb hits really well, at that age Peyton had noodle arms.

Having a good diet truly makes a difference in your health, strength, and overall mentality. Tom is mentally strong, even when we were down by 25 in the SB he kept his composure and kept fighting until the very last moment, most QBs at that point would have quit.

Where is "Aaachie"or Peyton on this, we all await their poignant, intelligent views of what a bad decision this is..

The record on Eli speaks for itself..
110 wins 100 losses
334 TD's and 222 int's
Lifetime QB rating 83.4

Manning has never, at any stage of his career, been a great QB.

He's made a couple of great throws in huge games (cough, cough) - i'm not even referencing the helmet catch, because that should have been 'in the grasp' and it was just a heave up the field when he did throw it.

What Manning has proved this year, beyond doubt, that he isn't good enough to carry a franchise - that has to be the benchmark for a QB in the HoF.

Say what you want about Aaron Rodgers - he IS the Green Bay Packers - as he goes, so does the franchise.

Manning had to make do with some offensive weapons this year of the ilk that Brady has had to make do with MULTIPLE TIMES in his career - and he has failed to raise their game or make any type of impact.

Eli is an above average QB for his career - the rings are of a similar nature to Brady's first one/two - where he was largely carried by a dominant D - and nobody was putting Brady in the HoF based on his exploits upto 2003.

A big fat no for the HoF.

I've often called Eli the "luckiest boy in the world" (in a Pee Wee Herman voice), but I think he is getting a raw deal here. His team is decimated with injuries, and I could see if the Giants wanted to take a look at some rookie QB, but they are benching him for Geno Smith, a guy who has already shown that he stinks!

After this, I can guarantee that Eli never takes another snap in NY, and that he gets released and signs elsewhere.

Watch the Jets try and sign him!

Pats fans in 2017: "Eli Manning got benched for Geno Smith? Hahahahahahaha!"

Hall of Fame selection committee in 2023: "Eli Manning got benched for Geno Smith? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Regards,
Chris

Well, let's just say that Elisha does make the HOF....can you imagine how long the acceptance speech.....

"Thank you, Canton Ohio...uh, Canton's in Ohio, right Dad? First, I want to recognize my two most important supporters of my career, Dunkin Donuts and Toyota. They showed loyalty as if they were in the huddle with me and the guys. Also, my family, er, my wife, um, Blondie Bling and my kids, Hokum, Tokum, and the little girl, Elisha. My mom and dad, um, were always my biggest athletic supporters outside the large companies I mentioned before, Dunkin Donuts and Toyota. There's Cooper, yeah, there was an extra ticket. What a, what a brother to me. He was even funny once. I can't forget Peyton. Glad you both could be here. When I started playing football in the front yard of our home in New Orleans LA, er, Dad, that's in Louisiana, right? I never expected to throw 25 interceptions in a season in the NFL....but I made it happen with the help of one of the greatest organizations in NFL History, the Mannings. We knocked each other out time and time again, so that's why I started turning to what we used to call back in the day, weed. It nurtured, my um, abilities to throw off my back foot falling away and ad lib the ****, oh, sorry, the heck out of many plays that otherwise would have met my certain death. As Tom Coughlin used to say, "Nothing like pulling magic outta yer ass, Elisha." He was funny once too, eh Cooper. I'd like to remember Ernie Acorsi now but, er, all I can picture was a fat guy with great hair and Mr. Magoo glasses. What, no, it was a hair piece, what, no, seriously? I never would have guessed. Oh, he and Dad met weeks before the Draft and eventually worked out a trade with San Diego to have me come to New York, well, really New Jersey and play in the town of Meadowlands. Who can forget, Mr. Mara? He's no longer with us today....but his stretch in Attica will be done soon and ah, he will have less free time. I'm sure Mrs. Mara will welcome him back despite the scars. In my first season it was a serious learning experience, fast forward to 5 games left in my Rookie season and the opportunity to start was bestowed upon me. From there I set out on a course, um, that led to two major corporations endorsing me in large advertising campaigns, Dunkin Donuts and Toyota. I, er, the Giants and me also won 2 Super Bowls along the way, many thanks to the guys who made some plays out there and we never looked back as they say, and then I had a streak of uninterrupted starts due to some med help from Peyton's wife, Dr. Mrs. Peyton Manning. Stuff was amazing...it was like I was a little boy again....playing on our front yard in Nawlins....Louisiana right Dad?

Eli's 36 years old and has been in decline for at least the past two seasons. He's a short term player at this point, no matter which team he's on. The Giants need to find his replacement. Losing these last 5 games will allow them a top 3 pick, and give them a crack at one of the highest rated QBs in the draft. And, with only SF and the Browns ahead of them, it's quite possible that they could be picking with only one QB taken off the board.

That is the only plausible scenario I can come up with for them choosing to start Geno Smith who has more career INTs than TDs.

It has got to be intentional tanking as I can't think of any other factor that's anywhere near rational.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him next year on Jacksonville or Arizona.

THIS is your future, G men

Noone in their right minds would think that Geno gives you a better chance to win than Eli. Period. They want to tank for a higher draft pick and they want to move on from Eli after this season, hence they are benching him.

well in a way

in a truer way, their D took us down, and Eli hit on like 2 lucky throws each game

Looking at just the scores of those games, one would assume that neither team really had any talent at quarterback.

We've seen teams with middling QB play win due to their excellent rosters before. (07 Giants, 12 Ravens, 15 Broncos)
07 giants and 12 ravens had very good qb play in the playoffs.

07 giants and 12 ravens had very good qb play in the playoffs.
And Cousins has been one to get on hot streaks.

Let's not forget how Denver got there with a decrepit forehead two years ago.
