I don't see how. Hoyer's salary is guaranteed this year and he gets to choose where he goes from here.

I find it hard to believe that this move wasn't made for the intention of something. Maybe someone else will be dealt. Idk.

Why? The only surprising thing about this move is the timing, it was never likely that JG was going to be here beyond this year (or perhaps next after a franchise season). The logistics were just too difficult to navigate.

I believe this is indicative of BB thinking 2 things: Jimmy wasn't going sign a backup QB contract, and also that this team isn't a SB roster. Otherwise I can't see him trading a player he believed could be the missing piece to a championship if TB12 goes down

BB is for sure thinking about winning the SB this year. Maybe he was not sold on JG over Hoyer and needed to resolve the QB situation.

i see it a similar way...we all thought at the beginning of the year we are stacked at every position, 19-0, etc...the reality has been different...before game 1 the thought was, even if brady gets hurt short or long term, G could backup and win games and even a SB possibly surrounded by a crazy awesome cast...taht cast is not quite there this year, if brady goes down, G would not bring us a lombardi, so regardless who backs him up, we're screwed in that sense

So if I understand this right, the Pat's originally had Hoyer included in the trade and then they rembered that Homer would count against the comp pick formula and would cancel out the 4th red pick that they are going to get for Bennett, so the 49ers ( who signed a ton of FA and weren't going to get any comp picks anyway) just released him. Meaning Homer can still sign with the Pats, won't count in the comp pick formula, and can take his 6 million salary as termination pay, and keep whatever the Pats pay him.

That is Ernie level debouchery! Harbaugh will be in tears!!!

We could have gotten a LOT more if we traded JG before the season started. Probably as much as a 1st and 3rd.

We trade Garappolo now and we only get a 2nd and now we have no backup QB? It makes no sense, both from a trade return POV and having no security blanket POV. If Tommy goes out who plays QB? Certainly not Julian Edelman, he's out for the year!

So you think belichick dorsnt know as much as you about what teams are offering for his player?

Hoyer was essentially part of the deal, so he is the backup now.
