Jimmy Garoppolo traded to SF for 2018 2nd round draft pick

Still doesn’t make sense ..... they would have gotten a 3rd rounder for him if they just let him walk

It is the end of the 3rd versus the beginning of the 2nd? BB will probably flip this pick for 3 or 4 later picks to make up for what we traded away for Bademosi, Rowe, etc.

Better root against SF so it can be the first pick of the second round.

You know first round talent is going to fall into the 2nd round.

And teams will be chomping at the bit. BB is going to parlay this pick into a 2nd, 3rd and a 4th, and he's only going to move down 10 slots!

We could have gotten a LOT more if we traded JG before the season started. Probably as much as a 1st and 3rd.

We trade Garappolo now and we only get a 2nd and now we have no backup QB? It makes no sense, both from a trade return POV and having no security blanket POV. If Tommy goes out who plays QB? Certainly not Julian Edelman, he's out for the year!

BB would prefer Hoyer from the street than on a current 2yr deal..

FYI - 9/17ths of the vet minimum salary is $325,6588.

Gotta love @Miguel always thinking things out, ramification-wise.

This was my very first thought.

BB had to change his thinking on letting Butler walk now that Gilmore struggled.

He probably figured all along he could go the Cassell route with Jimmy but why not grab the 2nd now so you save the option to use it on someone else like Butler.

If Gilmore turns it around maybe he doesn't tag Butler but now he has the option.

**Cleveland was never offering two first round picks or even one. As someone wrote. they held on to JAG to see if Brady declined and when he didnt they traded him......

***JAG got two rings and a chance at $50 million or more and a chance to be a starter.. Not bad.....
**** How is he getting to SF, magic carpet????? Sorry couldn't resist...

***For those saying Hoyer is a lousy QB, think Steve Young in TB and Steve Young in SF.. Supporting cast plays a big role.......I'm ok with it

** What's next????

Either that or he's going to pick safety Haywood Djablomi from East Nowhere jr college.

Wow. I am curious what exactly Cleveland offered. It can be argued depending on that that BB screwed this up.

Bill must think that brady can play another 3 years after this season.

Even if Hoyer isn't that good, who really cares? If he good enough to win a game or two in spot duty if Brady goes out with a short-term injury? That's the only way his caliber of play could possibly matter. If Brady goes down with a significant injury our season is over no matter who the backup is.

Hoyer wouldn't be the QB of the future here, and Belichick would presumably be drafting one this april.

I have to believe there is more to this than the CB situation you oulined. Otherwise it would appear BB is simply pressing buttons at this point.

If this is true it just makes me love Bill even more :D

That seems weird to me, though. They're really the Cleveland Browns in name only, not a single person associated with the original franchise is involved with the new one. If anything he should have been peeved at the Ravens while Modell still owned the team.

Unless the real ire of Belichick is the Cleveland media. In which case, carry on....
