Also not sure who it was but I think one of them was covering Benjamin on the called back TD but they definitely got saved there because i'm not sure the OPI played a part in why he caught it and i'm not sure they chase him down.
The guy who was supposed to cover him was totally wiped out by the OPI, denying him any chance of making a play to either prevent the catch or limit the YAC. Yeah you're right nobody's sure if they would've made the play. What is sure is that they had no chance to even try to make the play. That's why it was a good penalty not a bail-out or save.[/QUOTE]

The defense has improved as a whole and there isn't just one reason why. Bademosi though is making a strong case to stay in the lineup. I want Gilmore and Rowe both back ASAP but I don't see how you sit Bademosi in favor of Rowe at this point unless he falls off.

As with most thing I believe the truth here is somewhere in the middle.
Was Gilmore playing well most of the games he played? No.
Did he show signs he could be a #1 CB? Yes (we knew he had the talent).
Were many of his errors mental and correctable? Yes.
Did he look like he was starting to fix them before he got injured? Yes.

At this point if the Pats want a good chance to win it all they need their D to do well and that means Gilmore needs to come back and play like the CB we paid him to be.

Until we see Gilmore back, we have no idea if the improved defense has anything to do with his absence. Butler did not have a great day today. He was beat down the field several times including the 4th quarter TD.

Gilmore had a really good game vs. Tampa. We will see if he turned a corner or it was just because of the scheme for that one particular game.

Rob, you have no business interjecting a calm. rational response. Get ouuta here with that nonsense! :)

The Pats have given up 51 points the last 4 weeks ( after giving up 128 the first four weeks).
I researched the last time the Pats have given up a total of 51 points or less over 4 weeks.... Considering all the injuries, it is even more impressive......

Bademosi and Butler have been lights out with all of the man coverage being called.
What’s that? They’ve been getting help? You mean to tell me the HC & DC of the New England Patriots have changed up the defensive coverage? Nah, that can’t be. All everyone keeps telling me is that a new guy got plugged in and fixed it all!

Why can’t some of you just be happy? I don’t get it. We traded for a guy to shore up our ST’s coverage and now he is in the mix for CB. Why does that mean we have to bag on another guy? NVM, I get it. Cyrus Jones is out for the season, we need a new whipping boy.

Might as well run Gilmore’s ass outta town, and while we’re at it, give him a few extra train tix to take Rowe and that ‘show up whenever I want’ bum Hightower with him.

Don't forget to give Harris a train ticket to......ummm......oh wait!......he's great asset now! Never mind...

You said it well Holyred. Be happy with the win, be happy that an injured guy's(Gilmore) replacement(Jbad) is stepping up, be happy when the injured guy comes back to compete in the mix.
JHFC why do so many have to over dramatize and over complicate this. As poster Rob said, here's our benchmark over the last 2 games. Not perfect but good. When Gilmore comes back let's see where it takes us. Maybe, just maybe it will be another step in the right direction. If it isn't then JBad will see more time and Gilmore will see less time.

The Gilmore no-awareness defense set a record giving up over 300yards passing for 5 straight games and 25ppg, in the first 5 games. The Butler/Bademosi CB tandem, without Gilmore, has now gone 3-0 and given up 13ppg.

Butler may be too small to cover big receivers but who cares. The entire defense plays much better with this current secondary, without Gilmore.

.

Some love for Jones? I thought he's been playing very well as well.

You forgot to use his full honorific......... that'd be Cyrus Jones, Superbowl Champion 2016, Highest draft pick in 2016 by the decade long Patriots dynasty, future heir to Ty Law.

Too bad he's already done and likely won't play in the NFL again.

Well to be fair the offenses they have faced are ranked 21st, 15th, and 22nd in points scored per game.

Whereas in the 1st 4 games we face: #3, #6, #1, and #23.

So there may be another reason for the decline in points allowed as well.

Bad-ass-Mosi.

You just had to bring up 2005! That was the year for crowning achievement #2, the threepeat. The sh!t PI call, and I swear we had 10 turnovers if we had 1. I think Denver was held to like 270 yards(?) TOTAL offense. What was that stat that Denver gained like 22(??) offensive yards to score 17 of their points.

We had the team on both sides of the ball for the threepeat (weaker pass D but overall good team). We were mediocre for 3 months but we turned it on the last month or so of the season playing very good ball. Yes Denver had a very good (I hope Champ is now shoveling slop for a living :)) but damn did we turn it over too much. That loss sucked the big one. Get past Denver and it was a PItt team we would have beaten and a Seattle team we would have beaten.

Congratulations, you win this week's trophy for most unhappy and miserable poster. ((See the man behind the curtain for your fabulous list of prizes such as a year's supply of turtle wax))

Bad-ass-Mosi.

If the defense is playing great with Bademosi, then maybe don't try to force Gilmore and Rowe back to spots where these 2 May no longer be the best corners for those spots anymore. What if Gilmore's true calling is as the nickel-back covering the slot receiver.

The Atlanta Falcons offense is not prolific this year. Atlanta Falcons Stats at NFL.com

It was a fluke how well they did last year, if Aaron Rodgers didn’t get hurt they would have been the favorites in the NFC to get to the SB. With the NFC it seems like the Seahawks and Eagles might be the ones this year to go far.

The Raiders have been a total disappointment, I thought they would have ran away with the division by now, but it looks like they may not see the playoffs this year.

The Rams look like a complete team IMO, they might be one of the teams that may just take the top spot from the Hawks.

He isn’t that open in that coverage without opi

Someone should start a thread on how we could have spent Gilmore's $60 million. I guarantee it will go well.

Until yesterday they were 5th in points per game and 4th in yards.

They are 2-5 and getting most of those stats in garbage time of losing games - - just like the Patriots game.

Look at all those great stats Winston put up in the Pats game.......do you really think they were good? Or the Pats were going into safe mode. Does anyone who WATCHED that game actually think Winston's 26-46 for 334 yds was legit and not garbage time padding?

It may help to watch the field instead of only the stat line.
