I thought he stunk in Indy, i said i didn't like the trade the day it happened and he's not good, i still think he's awful today.

You can say what you want about the Colts but one thing they've been good at is throwing the ball and racking up mass yardage, Andrew Luck preferred Coby Fleener then Jack Doyle for a reason, Allen blows.

It was a bust of a trade on a bust of a player, looks like tarzan plays like Jane keep waiting for him to come good you'll be waiting until the end of time he just doesn't have it.

Indy robbed Bill, this is a guy who's getting cut.

Quality of tight ends in the NFL is very low. And brady doesn't seem to be on the same page as most tight ends. The chemistry brady and Hernandez had was amazing...gosh I miss that elite two te set...I hope bb spends a second or third rounder on a young tight end next draft

Dwayne Allen cost - $5m in 2017, $5m in 2018, $7.5m in 2019.
Martellus Bennett - $7m per year for 2017-2019.

Dwayne Allen performance versus Bennett from last year.

Dwayne Allen - 2017 - Games played 3, Receptions 0, Yards 0.
Martellus Bennett - 2016 for Pats - Game played 3 (first 3), Receptions 14, Yards 138.
Martellus Bennett - 2017 for Packers - Game played 3 (first 3), Receptions 11, Yards 102.

Early days............. but lets see.

At the moment, he's more like an extra lineman than a TE to me. The trouble is that he's not being paid like one. We used to have Cameron Fleming come in for all these "extra lineman" situations, and he signed with us for 1 year for $1.8m for 2017.

I just don't see how Dwayne Allen's complete invisibility can be called anything but disappointing.

Early days yes, but there's nothing here to build on.

On Dwayne Allen you are Preaching to the Choir my friend. Didn't know exclusively Blocking TE's cost that much.:rolleyes:

That Jacob Hollister looks like a player have a nice pair of hands too Allen will be in street clothes soon among the Inactives stay healthy Gronk. Jacob Hollister 2 Targets 2 catches nuff said.

What did Allen do to you? Did he bang your girl or what? Good God... and try to use punctuation next time.

Bennett like so many players overestimated his value, he was also hurt for most of last year.. some sort of foot injury if memory serves me correctly..

As a fan I overestimated the abilities of Bennett, he has been in the league for 9 years now and he averages about 34 catches a season, and about 3 TD's a season..

I really like Bennett, but upon closer inspection he is not exactly an offensive juggernaut.

OTOH, Allen has been in the league for 5 years now and he averages about 25 catches a season and about 4 TD's a season..

Dwayne has given us nothing in the passing game. So far, he is no better than Matt Lengel, who gave some good blocking last year, but is far more expensive.

Guys chill!!! Yes, he’s been very limited as a pass catcher this far. However, his blocking has been excellent. Also, keep in mind that the Pats’ playbook elvolves throughout the season. They don’t show their full hand until later in the year. By that time; granted with decent/ good health, the offense will be humming (that’s great considering we put up 27 on KC & 36 on HOU; both of whom possess very strong DEF).

Give it time. Why do you guys think you’re going to everything so soon?? It’s WEEK 3!!!

Its only Week 3 and we all knew going into this season a healthy Gronk was getting 90% of the TE targets anyway, as he should. He playing an an All-Pro level again.

I kinda sorta watched his blocking yesterday and it was mixed. With that said HOU has a helluva active front 7. Even Gronk has a couple of tough plays.

I wish he pulled in the shallow out throw to the sideline but oh well.

Hes not as good as Marty and people need to acknowledge that and lets all move on.

I think Hollister is getting the throws anyway so oh well.

Allen looks terrible as a receiver. I haven't bothered focusing on his blocking.

Thats my observation as well, regarding how he looks receiving. Stiff. Unable to react to the ball at all.
Given Gronk's presence on the field, I don't expect more than a couple targets per game for a #2 TE, but he is not motivating Brady to even look his way.

I know it's early, but Allen should go in favor of Hollister or somebody else. He can't catch anything. He's been targeted at least once in each of these three games (on the first play from scrimmage in the opener when he was wide open and instantly developed alligator arms) and cannot make a catch. He stinks.

Edit - I also have not watched his blocking, but he can't cut it as a receiving TE, and isn't that what we need on the Pats?

The TE 2 on New England should be looked at in the same manner as Jimmy G.

Allen's snap count in Week 1 was 27. He got more (46) in Week 2 after Gronk got hurt. Lengel can block, sure. Hollister can catch, sure.

Allen can do both. Neither Lengel or Hollister could sill in for Gronk without hurting one aspect of the offense. Either of those guys could be a TE 3, situational player.

That's the difference.

Dwayne Allen can be disappointing relative to his trade and contract compensation while still being their best option on the majority of 2 TE snaps. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Bennett didn't want to stay. They offered him a 7-8 million dollar extension shortly after he arrived but turned it down. He was a 1 and done, sadly.
Yup. I was saying it that whole season.

Well, which is it? Completely invisible or acting as an extra lineman and blocking as he's told to do?

Allen has been tasked with blocking assignments every game. I think he's been targeted TWICE in 3 games. Yes, he dropped one this past game. However, Allen is helping out Solder more often than not. And Solder still doesn't seem to be close to where he was..

With Gronk, Amendola, Hogan, Cooks, White, Lewis, Dorsett, and Burkhead also on this offense, there aren't exactly a lot of opportunities to go around..

Check out the first play from scrimmage in the home opener.
