Dwayne Allen cost - $5m in 2017, $5m in 2018, $7.5m in 2019.
Martellus Bennett - $7m per year for 2017-2019.

Dwayne Allen performance versus Bennett from last year.

Dwayne Allen - 2017 - Games played 3, Receptions 0, Yards 0.
Martellus Bennett - 2016 for Pats - Game played 3 (first 3), Receptions 14, Yards 138.
Martellus Bennett - 2017 for Packers - Game played 3 (first 3), Receptions 11, Yards 102.

Early days............. but lets see.

At the moment, he's more like an extra lineman than a TE to me. The trouble is that he's not being paid like one. We used to have Cameron Fleming come in for all these "extra lineman" situations, and he signed with us for 1 year for $1.8m for 2017.

I just don't see how Dwayne Allen's complete invisibility can be called anything but disappointing.

Early days yes, but there's nothing here to build on.

Gronk was hurt through the first few games last year, so Bennett's production isn't really comparable because it's nowhere near and apples-to-apples comparison.

Allen has been mildly disappointing so far, a couple ugly drops over the last couple weeks. I'm still confident his time will come, though.

We will see. I would love to see if Hollister offers anything. He had a nice catch

Agree that Allen has been disappointing so far as far as a receiving threat but my tv eye is telling me that he is helping block the majority of the time so lack of catches is to be expected. Bennett has about 100 yards and no TDs for GB this year. I highly doubt Allen remains on the team for $5M+ next year.

No matter what happens with Allen, I doubt he'll be here beyond this season. NE sees a cap savings of 5m dollars next season if he's released. That's significant.

I agree that he's been underwhelming, but his main job is to block and act as a RZ target, so he's not going to put up big numbers. He never was. Let's revisit his situation after another 2-3 games. His drop today sucked. I'm interested in hearing how he's doing with his other task, and imagine that someone else picked up on his blocking from watching @Tony2046 's vids.

With Hollister, you're getting another AJ Derby. The ability to catch the ball is there, but you're losing out on one of the better blocking TEs in the NFL.
Hollister reminds me of Marv Cook which is not a bad thing.

Bennett was fairly useless as a pass catcher once Gronk went down for good after the Seattle game. He averaged something like 35 yards per game for the remainder of regular season & playoffs.

In terms of catching its really not a disappointment since he's never been a real receiving threat. He's a good blocker but for his cost he just not worth it. They out thought themselves, Bennett is a better player.

Bennett looks horrible right now and he's a bit of a cancer in the lockerrom

Not sure Tom brady would agree based on who he targeted with his last two attempts in the last game of the season (yea yea ok s the PI nullified the first attempt on the stat sheet)

Yep. I wish peeps would stop jerking it to Bennett. Guy was way over valued and hasnt done **** and its not like he has some JAG QB throwing him the ball. And as stated we dont want his tude in the locker room with all the nonsense going on.

He is gone - move on

Agree. I think his stay here will be short. Huge mistake for a GM that does not make many. Think about how valuable the pick they wasted on him could have been.

He has played 3 games. Can we at least give him the year. Everyone wanted DA killed here at one point. Guy is now being compared to Troy friggen Brown
