We're on to Pittsburgh

I agree with that, Ill add that the Steelers defense is a good bit better right now also. At least the play of Dupree and Shazier. Im hoping the NE offense is better also with Mitchell, Lewis and Floyd...but not having Gronk is a big deal, I like Bennett but he has not shown us much lately.

My gut feeling... its usually a player that hasnt given us too much in previous games that has a big game... I think some combination of Bennett/Mitchell/Amendola will pleasantly surprise us on Sunday.

From James Harrison to Bud Dupree, the Patriots are ready for a new ‘Blitzburgh’

No team had more sacks in the second half of the season than the Steelers, who recorded 30 in the final nine games of the regular season. Their eight sacks against the Browns kicked off a seven-game winning streak to end the season. They continued it in the wild card round against the Dolphins with five sacks of Matt Moore.

They had just one against the Chiefs Sunday night but it was one by the ageless James Harrison. The Texans had the top-ranked defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed but the way the Steelers are attacking the quarterback, they might be the most fearsome defense left in the playoffs.

“Yes, most players are playing at a very high level right now, and seem to get better as the year goes on,” Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said Monday.

The Patriots kept Tom Brady clean in their Oct. 23 meeting in Pittsburgh, as the quarterback was not sacked.

“They’ve always had an element of those experienced veteran players really helping those younger players come along, and learn the system, and learn what it means to play the way they play in their scheme and their system,” McDaniels continued. “I think those are two good examples right there of guys that [are] much different in terms of their age and experience, but both physical guys, both very difficult to handle in the running game, set the edge in the running game and they do a good job of trying to knock people back.”

The Steelers are also generating turnovers so far in the playoffs. They created three against Miami and two Sunday against Kansas City. If ball security was a weakness Saturday against the Texans, with two interceptions and two fumbles, the Patriots know they have to be on guard this weekend.

“And then [they] can create pressure on the quarterback, whether it’s with speed or power, and they do it both,” McDaniels said. “So, they fit into their scheme nicely, they’ve always done a great job of integrating young players into their scheme, because they know very specifically what they’re looking for. I think those two guys are a good example of what they’ve had for a long time and how they develop these young guys to play really well and integrate them into their system and into their defense.”

When the Steelers added Kevin Greene to the likes of Greg Lloyd, Levon Kirkland, Jason Gildon and Chad Brown in the mid-90s under Bill Cowher, “Blitzburgh” was born. In the 2000s, there was Joey Porter, James Farrior, LaMarr Woodley, Larry Foote and a young James Harrison out of Kent State.

Now, the Steelers have bookended the 38-year-old Harrison (in his second stint in Pittsburgh) with 23-year-old Bud Dupree, the 6-foot-4 beast out of Kentucky that laid out Moore with that devastating hit to the jaw in the wild card round. Throw in Ryan Shazier and Lawrence Timmons, and you have a group that is just as imposing as the group in the mid-90s.

“They have a lot of guys that can do different things,” McDaniels said. “Their down guys are not just run stoppers. [Stephon] Tuitt is a very active guy, and he’s created a lot of pressure on the quarterback from the spots that he plays. They’ll pressure people with pressures, so with linebacker blitzes, so guys like Timmons and Shazier and those types of guys, they all have sacks, they all have quarterback pressures. And then the edge rushers, the Harrison’s and the Dupree’s, those guys, I mean they’re constantly involved in the rush as well. It’s not just one guy; that’s the biggest thing.

This narrative is tired.

Russell Wilson, Flacco, Tannehill and Dalton are top 15 QBs.

I think you're wrong RobertWeathers. I found this QB ratings list:

Top 15 QBs Rated in Order By 'The 2016 Patriot Defense Is Overrated' Statistic:
1-15: Any QB the Patriots didn't face

In all seriousness we didn't face a top 10 QB in terms of QBR (for total yards we faced 3 top 10 QBs). So it is fair to say the D did not face the upper third of QBR passer offenses. We did face 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20. FWIW, a super quick calculation says 22.3 per game (a TD greater than our average) was allowed against these QBs (that is total score and not adjusted for points scored by STs or a turnover).

And the streak continues! as we won't face a top 10 QB until the SB. Big Ben is not a top 10 QBR (he is #11).
Side note, Ryan is the #1 QBR this season. His numbers are super impressive though if Brady doesn't miss 4 games he might have took the title.

QBR?

Any system that ranks Ryan Fitzpatrick over Tom Brady is worthless and has zero credibility.

Man, I miss Gronk. I went back to the first steelers game and two big plays by Gronk put that game away. Gronk was the best offensive player (Brady excluded) on the team. The other thing that no one is mentioning is that Gronk's role in the run game can't be under-estimated. Bennett is good but he is no Gronk.

Bennett needs to perform better than he did vs Houston, hopeful he got rid of the playoff jitters.

If mitchell is active(which i believe that he will be) i dont think we will see much floyd. Mitchell knows the offense better. That brady interception is likely a catch if that is mitchell

Was that Drew Bledsoe's last career playoff touchdown pass?

It would be a catch if Mitchell's arms were longer. Just like it would have been a catch if Floyd's arms were longer.

That INT is on Brady. It's okay to criticize him when he makes a mistake.

Got to move on, he's not coming back this season. You're teasing yourself. On the upside, we didn't have Lewis in the first Steeler game. Totally different player, of course, but Lewis adds something we didn't have back then.

I won't state that it isn't Brady's fault, because it obviously could be. With that said, it's not unfathomable that floyd over ran his cut by a yard or so as well. It's well documented how meticulous Brady is about how precise he wants WR to run their routes, it's quite possible the new guy made a mistake. We simply don't know. And most likely won't. But Brady looked off a bit most of the night so tough to say either way on this one.

Brady said it was his fault.

Agree. I think Lewis could have another big game this week.

The same 2005 Colts team that lost to the Steelers in the AFC title game?

In the 2003 season, the Patriots went from the at Houston game (Week 12, nearly lost, pulled out in OT) to the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl in Houston without trailing. Pats won that game. This year's Super Bowl is in Houston again.

Bennett has been grossly overrated by the majority of the fan base in my opinion. He's not worth some of these 7-8m dollar a year projections. Hopefully, he produces. We could use him.

The week 1-3 Bennett was what the hype promised - pretty dominant run blocker, sneaky receiver (just not the escapability and acceleration after the catch of Gronk). Since then, maybe coinciding with the injuries, he's been inconsistent at best, but even his up games have been, to me, scheme based more than pure athletic talent. It's telling that in all these second half of the season games - how many goal line plays have gone to him? Not too many. Now maybe they're "saving" them, but I don't buy into that too much, if at all.

All that said...the better question is - compared to previous years has he provided as good or better Gronk insurance than his predecessors? And does next years' cap easily absorb the extra to keep him now that Collins and Jones are gone?
