Giants accuse the Steelers of deflating footballs

The league will never say the IGL caused the Steelers footballs to be low...and the reason for that is obvious.

Of course they won't say THAT. They'll just wait for the IGL to actually do its thing, and then measure the footballs after they've warmed back up, and announce that everything is kosher.

Using Professor Martin Schmalz's online football pressure calculation tool, 11.4 and 11.8 psi are perfectly reasonable and expected pressures for footballs that had been in the 12.5-13 psi range at 68 degrees and were then cooled into the 40s.

Martin Schmaltz' pressure calculator

I don't think ANYBODY honestly thinks Pittsburgh was cheating by deflating footballs. We ALL know it's just nature doing what nature does.

That's not the point, though. Obviously.

Difficult to believe that after the Deflategate Brouhaha that the NFL Office, they would just dismiss this incident without so much as some sort of investigation...

Or more simply maybe the weather factors that influenced the balls in NE were no big deal either...

Exactly. I posted about 1/2 hr Gazer broke the story what the expected PSI would be and it fell in that range.

I think Pitt is a slimy organization with a bunch of whiney players but I don't think they messed with the balls.

The problem we all have is there was no, "The NFL is investigating " release.

They threw cold water on this thing as quickly as possible.

What about the other 22 balls? Why not treat this with the same rigor as DFG I?

The NFL claims to have a methodical process but chooses to apply it when it suits their needs.

It's the double standard that is annoying.

Are you kidding me? It's the only option they have,
1) They already announced that they checked the balls before hand and they were in range and there were no chain of custody issues.
2) If it shows now that the balls were below 12.5 PSI, how did it happen?? They already said there was no tampering ( i.e. chain of custody) so it leaves natural causes and the IGL which blows up their entire premise for Deflategate... If there was no deflated balls, there is no reason to go after a phone..etc etc....

If there was ever a time for Mr. Kraft to stand up, it is now. It is a perfect scenario for him to say, " see we didn't deflate the balls, it was the weather that caused it. I want all the numbers released from the Steeler-Giants game."......

Like that's ever going to happen.................

I'd pass out if Jonathan or Bob popped in the booth tonight with Seanny and Gruden and publicly demanded an investigation to determine why the psi was lower than the league standard.

So is this what this ****y ass league has come to? You get your ass beat and then whine about the IGL? Ridiculous. And of course the NFL would try to cover it up so they don't have to enforce an equal punishment. It's the Steelers and their corpse of an owner.

the nfls reaction to this just proves that deflategate 1 was never about integrity or "protecting the shield" it was goodell getting a hard-on for tom brady and belicheck and trying to punish them.

even discounting the fact that weather deflates the balls. time and time again we have actual proof of teams playing with the balls with the NFL turning a blind eye because they dont view it as a big deal.

The Giants complained before the game. They even stuck a needle (illegally, I might add) in the two balls they intercepted before making noise about the balls.

240 posts in this thread disprove that.
LOL, we care. Unfortunately, as history has vividly illustrated, in the large picture we don't count.

Come on. Think it through.
The league is going to say they did an exhaustive investigation that proved IGL deflated footballs but the patriots were deflated more than could be totally explained by IGL.

Wells positioned them not to be IGL deniers but to fake the experiments so they could both admit to IGL and dismiss it in only this case.

I would love to see the Patriots pick off a Flacco pass tonight and then file a "formal complaint" that the Ravens are playing with footballs under 12.5 psi.

Force the league to measure the ball right there, knowing that the IGL will have done it's thing

Then what does the nyjfl do? Punish the Ravens? Admit that science exists? Play dumb and deny everything?

Its too bad Kraft would never have the backbone to do this.

I wouldn't. It's against the rules to stick a needle in a ball and test it on the sidelines. Sure, the NFL didn't care when the Colt and Giants did it but if they caught wind of the Pats doing it it's going to be another 1st rounder gone.

This is easy. The Pats would be punished for measuring the Ravens ball.

Something I saw a lot yesterday in the coverage of this story was the sentiment that the league doesn't want to go through a long, drawn out investigation again. The NFL chose to "go through" the investigation in 2015. They could have just as easily said "The guy stopped to take a whiz/science exists/no tampering" and been done with it.

They wanted to make a big deal out of it because the Patriots were involved. Now they don't want, yet Goodell says the rules apply to everyone, equally.

Am I wrong here ( no time to read this thread) but did the NFL prior to the 2015 season say that all balls prior to games would be set to 13 psi and NO LONGER at the 12.5 psi???

Does this not reflect the IGL effects even more?
