Woody Johnson Clear Cut Tampered Re: Revis

You are completely wrong about this. Ego is such a huge component with guys like Johnson. You have to compound this current issue with all the other turmoil and fan disfavor he has faced lately.
Disagree. Or rather, you're right about ego. But it's exactly the massive ego that won't let a guy like him be forced into selling.

Typically, what is the punishment for tampering?

I think I saw someone mention KC and DET's tampering situation and all they did was swap 5th round picks?

Wow, Belichick said that he would think the league would look into tampering violations, when asked about Woody comments by weei. I would have thought he would have no commented

We don't have a 5th to swap.
That will be the reason given that Goodell does nothing. I wish I was joking.

Are you serious? The Pats most likely will not get a pick, and if they do it'll be a swap.

There's no way in hell the Pats are getting a first round pick from the Jets.
Relax, your fan/commissioner will never do anything to hurt the Jets. He MIGHT fine Woody if this gets in the press and he must save face.

Sounds like he positioned his response in a generalistic way but the message was sent to the league in a very nondescript way- he EXPECTS the league to investigate.

No it should not, and to think otherwise is absolutely stupid and unreasonable; the only reason you want the Pats to get the Jets first round pick, is because it's a top ten pick. Didn't a similar situation occur with Jerry Jones and Adrian Peterson this season?

Um, did you read his post where he asked where did he say the Patriots should get it or did you really want a straw man?

I agree with the effect, but I doubt Woody plans as well as a bond villain. I believe he was just stupid and lucked into any benefit from his actions.

BTW, I favor any punishment. Prison is full of idiots.

Prison is full of idiots that couldn't afford good legal representation, the latter doesn't apply to Woody.

If it's Green and White, then it's all right.

Seriously, as Dales804 pointed out, it is a clear violation of the rule. And it's not the first time.

And Woody did this in 2006. The Pats filed tampering charges against the Jets for exceeding the parameters of sign and trade talks when the Jets were seeking to sign Deion Branch. Woody got permission from Bob Kraft to talk to Branch about the terms under which he would sign Branch but not the compensation that he would offer the Pats. Woody then repaid Bob Kraft's trust and courtesy by telling Branch what he would trade to NE for him. A fine gentleman that Woody.

Logically speaking, the precedent for punishing tampering comes from penalties for the Lions for tampering with Chiefs players on 2010 and the Niners tampering with Bears linebacker Lance Briggs in 2008.

The Lions lost a 7th rounder and swapped 5th rounders with the Chiefs.

The Niners lost a 7th rounder and swapped 3rd rounders with the Bears.

Neither was a repeat offense

Johnson was reprimanded for this before, in comments he made about DeSean Jackson.

As a repeat offender, seems like a swap of 2nd round picks with NE and losing their 6th rounder is about right. Doubt that we will see it, but that would be fair and in accord with precedent and harsher punishment for repeat offenses.

If the repeat offense aspect were (WRONGLY) ignored, a swap of 4th round picks with NE and losing their 7th rounder is due.

If this is tampering then the NFL rules really need to be overworked because that is ridiculous.

He didn't contact Revis or his agent, he didn't make any offer to anyone but simply expressed that he would love to have a player back with his team. If he would have said that they will do everything possible to get Revis back to the Jets it would be a different story. Can we be reasonable for a change ?
He said he would have matched the pats offer.

A thought just occurred to me, and its disturbing. Didn't earlier this season, Jerry Jones literally do the exact same thing in regard to Adrian Peterson? And hasn't NOTHING been done about it. I find it hard to believe that Goodell will be able to punish Johnson even mildly if they did nothing to Jerrah.

I mean if Roger isn't anything, he's certainly consistent when he's handing out punishments.
I brought this up, and no one responded. Nothing is going to happen, and if anything happens it will be minor at best.

One has to wonder what the Jet fans are thinking of all this......

Probably Much Ado About Nothing......

I honestly don't care for your opinion about Spygate. Don't change the SUBJECT. Ivan, believes the Jets should lose their first round pick, because of Woody's statement. I never said that the Jets SHOULD not be punished.

You don't care for my "opinion"? Tough. You're on a Pats fan message board. If you didn't want Pats fans to respond to you, you shouldn't be here. Also, I wasn't giving you OPINION. I was stating facts. Clearly that is something that you can't handle.

If you had half a brain, you'd know that I wasn't changing the subject. You'd know that I was giving you an example of how the league had previously handled a situation where they had sent a team a letter regarding a rule and then penalized the team for breaking said rule. With Cameragate, the entire league was sent a letter prior to the start of the season about making sure people on the sidelines had the appropriate credentials for cameras and the such. That is why the Patriots were penalized a 1st round pick.

Clearly, you aren't intelligent enough to understand the similarities in the situation nor are you educated enough to actually be taking part in the conversation with anything remotely close to a meaningful opinion.

He said he would have matched the pats offer.

I guess I missed that part when I read a report about all of that the first time. This changes things obviously.

Anyway, I doubt anything will come out of that.

How many times do I have to say this? I don't care about Spygate, and you were cleary trying to change the subject, because I was telling IVAN that it would be unreasonable for the league to strip the Jets of their first round pick, because of Woody Johnson's behavior . I never once said, that the Jets should not be punished, however, I do believe that asking the league to strip the Jets of a top five pick is unreasonable .

Woody Johnson clarifies Revis remarks: "I misspoke today when I commented on Darrelle Revis “I would never interfere in the contractual relationship of a player with another team and should not have used those words. I called Robert Kraft this afternoon to emphasize those points.”

I wish Kraft would have responded "Remember 2007? Well I do." (click)
