Woody Johnson Clear Cut Tampered Re: Revis

In his Monday news conference following the dismissal of coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik, Johnson made it clear that the decision to pass on Revis -- who later signed with the rivalPatriots -- was not his. Then, in a surprising admission that will surely perturb some along Patriot Way, Johnson left the door wide open for a reunion with one the greatest players in franchise history.

"Darrelle is a great player and if I thought I could have gotten Darrelle for that, I probably would've taken him," Johnson told reporters of the one-year deal Revis signed with the Patriots in March. "And it was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle's a great player -- I'd love for Darrelle to come back."

Translation: Revis signing with the hated Patriots was on John Idzik, not me. It will be interesting to see if the Jets run into any issues with the league over what can be seen as a tampering situation.

Are you serious? The Pats most likely will not get a pick, and if they do it'll be a swap.

There's no way in hell the Pats are getting a first round pick from the Jets.

Where did I say the Patriots would get it,? I definitely believe it should be taken away though.

This is a major tamper, Revis is in a situation where his deal has to be redone and his former owner said he wants him when he is clearly under contract, it doesn't get, more egregious when it comes v to tampering, and had Kraft said he wanted Wilkerson then jetfans would,be screaming for nothing less than he cost them, a first.

No it should not, and to think otherwise is absolutely stupid and unreasonable; the only reason you want the Pats to get the Jets first round pick, is because it's a top ten pick. Didn't a similar situation occur with Jerry Jones and Adrian Peterson this season?

I really hate to burst the bubble, but in listening to WFAN (to hear more about Woody tampering) it sounds like he thought he was being asked about why the rats didn't sign revis last summer and was playing dumb (not hard for him to do) when he said i'd love to have revis back. He claimed he didn't know revis was a free agent. I hope i'm wrong, it would be great to file a tampering complaint and try to get some draft picks

Ummm . . . does he know that his own impending FAs are still under contract ATM?

If this is tampering then the NFL rules really need to be overworked because that is ridiculous.

He didn't contact Revis or his agent, he didn't make any offer to anyone but simply expressed that he would love to have a player back with his team. If he would have said that they will do everything possible to get Revis back to the Jets it would be a different story. Can we be reasonable for a change ?
It's not up to us. It's the rule. This is the way the NFL has done it, and continues to do it, and everyone involved is well aware of it, or should be. Plus, not contacting the agent or the player directly is immaterial. Expressing interest this way can have a substantial impact on contract negotiations.

Nowhere did I ever say the Patriots should get it, I said they should lose it, and they should, maybe then they will stop tampering with players under contract with division rivals. If you don't like it then contact your moron owner and tell him to shut up.

What is stupid and unreasonable was the penalty that the Patriots were hit with for Cameragate despite the fact that the Jets were doing the exact same thing and the Pats had reported them as well, but nothing was done. What is stupid and unreasonable is that a Jets fan is on a Patriots' fan message board thinking that he is talking sense when he's talking out his rear end and showing that his reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired.

The Jets SHOULD be penalized since this is the 2nd time in 9 months that the Owner has openly tampered with a player. It's well known that Johnson was sent a written warning regarding the matter when it happened with DeSean Jackson. It should be the loss of a draft pick by the Jets and the Patriots should receive some compensation since it was their player who was tampered with. What the penalty will be remains to be seen. It is likely to be a "swap" of 6th round picks or just the Jets 5th going to the Pats.

I'm actually interested to hear what YOU think should be the punishment for this SECOND violation in the same calendar year.

.Fine (obviously ) sixth round or fourth round pick swap.

What should the punishment be if Revis eventually signs with the Jets next summer?

This is what you get when you have an owner who's only significant business achievement is winning the genetic lottery and being born into a billionaire family.

You know how they joke about how each generation of the Kennedy clan gets dumber and dumber? The same can be said about the Johnson clan. Woody's grandfather was a genius. Woody's father was a boob. Woody is an ultra boob. Not to speak ill of the dead, but Woody's daughter was a low rent Paris Hilton. I feel bad for his two kids from his current trophy wife because I am guessing they won't be able to spell Jets.

Manish Mehta from NYDN also tweeted about this as tampering.

I honestly don't care for your opinion about Spygate. Don't change the SUBJECT. Ivan, believes the Jets should lose their first round pick, because of Woody's statement. I never said that the Jets SHOULD not be punished.

Loss of first round pick.

He's is tampering with, one of the top 10 player's in the league, the penalty needs to reflect that. Tamperwithtop 10 player lose top 10 pick.

Still waiting on the answer, Jetsfan......
