He's is tampering with, one of the top 10 player's in the league, the penalty needs to reflect that. Tamperwithtop 10 player lose top 10 pick.
I highly doubt you'd be saying this if Kraft tampered with Muhammad Wilkerson.

If this is tampering then the NFL rules really need to be overworked because that is ridiculous.

He didn't contact Revis or his agent, he didn't make any offer to anyone but simply expressed that he would love to have a player back with his team. If he would have said that they will do everything possible to get Revis back to the Jets it would be a different story. Can we be reasonable for a change ?

Dude, it is a policy that the OWNERS themselves put in place. Woody is an idiot if he does not know his own rules. Read the policy again. Very straightforward.

NEW YORK -- The San Francisco 49ers forfeited their fifth-round pick in next month's NFL draft after commissioner Roger Goodell said they tampered with Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs.

In a statement released by the league Monday, Goodell also said the teams will switch picks in the third round of the April 26-27 draft. Chicago, which had the 12th pick, will get San Francisco's seventh pick and the 49ers will get Chicago's choice.

Maybe not, but you can bet your ass the Jets fans would be.

Reporter: What about player X?

Smart NFL Owner: I can't discuss players under contract with another team.

Woody Johnson: I'd love to have player x.

I guarantee you would.
No, I would not. Why you ask? Because it's ridiculous. If this any other owner had done this (excluding AFC East owners), you would not be asking for a top ten pick. You hate the Jets, and want to see them continue to fail and by taking away a top ten pick from Woody and company, the odds of us being this bad next season increases. This is what it comes down to.

750k in fines and a first round pick for having a guy with a camcorder on the sidelines. Most football "fans" not only thought this was reasonable, but lenient.

I can't believe Woody Johnson said that. I figured the Rats would be working on an offer and tampering strategy for their next head coach once the two Superbowl teams are determined.
That's how they do business in the swamps of New Jersey.

Where does the man find time to tamper with Revis?

There should be punishment for the Rats and compensation to the Pats, but we have seen this story before.

The Denver Broncos actually do what the Pats were accused of (and cleared of too, not that it stopped the threat of possible legal action two days prior to playing a Superbowl), tape the pre-game walkthrough of their next opponent, and get a slap on the wrist.

The Rats trip an opposing player on the sidelines and the league allows them to investigate, and punish, themselves.

Sure does seem the Pats get treated with a different standard.

Just tweeted Curran and he is jumping all over this. Go Tom go.

Bottom line, he's been warned before by the league. If there's any consistency at ALL, they have to come down fairly hard on him. Particularly when he was blatant about it. Anything else is just the league saying 'Go ahead, piss all over the rules.'

You DO realize this is the 2nd time this year that he has done this?

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...dy_johnson_violate_nfls_tampering_policy.html

First time was in March regarding Desean Jackson - the NFL reprimanded him at the time and reiterated the rules (point of emphasis?).

Note well, that example occurred in the OFFSEASON when Jackson was not preparing for any upcoming games with his team.

2nd offense after a reprimand and DURING the player's season when he is in preparation with his team for an upcoming game?????

There better be a punishment coming PLUS something for the damage done to the New England Patriots
Good reference.
It points out that the Jets organization did this earlier and was warned.
It points out that KC was penalized for speaking to reporters about their interest in a Detroit player.
We have our own experience with ignoring a league warning about a rule the team "interpreted differently" after a warning.

Seems pretty clear.
The only thing to get really upset about is
a) if the league does nothing - which would be surprising, given the precedents
b) Revis goes back to the Jets based on this hint from the owner

Right, and the Rats love the Pats so much they turned the Pats in for Spygate and reveled in the over-the-top punishment.

We don't have a 5th to swap.
Yes, understood. I was simply pointing out what was done in the past with regards to tampering punishment. Make it swapping 1sts then!

It's all good, Curran is on it so it will be on NFL.COM and the NFLN within hours. Woody will be paying the price for his stupidity. Stay tuned.

You gotta love Curran, he's a goofball but he's really good at his job.
