Jonathan Vilma suing Roger Goodell for defamation

I'm happy for Vilma. Goodell is a tragically over employed, draconian, childish imp of a man who needs either a thorough ass kicking or an ego shattering mushroom trip more than anyone I can think of. A classic weak man who hides behind the faux power he has felated his way into. Anything. Literally anything, that can make him feel uncomfortable and human is good for him and ultimately the game.

Yes, they do. Or he and the NFL can say what they want and do what they want without proving a thing. You want that?

You want judge, jury , and conviction in one man, with no appeal?

Sense Goodell has been commissioner what have we seen. His spygate, henderson, vick, saints, etc. blah blah blah. it never ends if you notice. Every damn week its something non football. He's a glory CEO hound, I work with them. Someone needs to take him down a notch.

I don't know what vilma did or didn't do, unlike most psychic's here, but if he can knock Goodell in the teeth, Im all for it.
He's not going to knock Goodell in the teeth and we all know it pherein. I'm still astounded by the anger and hatred directed to Goodell by members of Patsfans. So eager to sling mud at the Commissioner yet reticent with their alternative proposition to his administration's course of action.

WE'RE slinging mud???? Pats fans are responsible for the Patriots, its owner, its head coach and its whole team as well as US being practically destroyed in a pre-emptive, selective attack by Goodell? Our fault??? We should play patty cake and goo gee gaa gaa every time the Lord High Commisioner speaks from his lofty perch?

there's an American saying...fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me...this is one Pats fan that was fooled by Roger Goodell's public mask....never again.

Alternative proposition? Complete and total abdication of the position by "commissioner" Roger Goodell, after which the remaining administration, under a duly voted on new commissioner ,continues the proper course of action.

Don't be daft Joker. Your posting toward Goodell is right at the top of the mudslinging. Even jays52, a highly respected and knowledgeable poster has stooped to the level of common garbage chatter discussing Goodell.

I don't have to like Goodell to appreciate that he has a difficult job. There would be a million and one things he keeps away from public prying eyes in the interests of the game. Someone has to police the NFL. You don't have to agree with all the decisions handed down but you have to consider, outside of Spygate (which we all agree was an overzealous pursuit for a minor rules violation) the NFL and their administrators, by and large, don't act on a whim, something Vilma appears to have completely forgotten.

The only poster who regularly broaches NFL policy is Deus and that's a credit to him.

I need to work on my humor, apparently. I was just trying to have some fun. I don't like him, but I certainly don't view him to be the devil.

My bad jays52. . I retract my comment.

and I will admit I'm at the extreme end of the meter regarding ol' Rog...maybe because I'm an old dog and experience tells me this guy, from what I've observed, is definitely not kosher...even the little things, like that slap and shake onstage at the draft with the draftees, rang extremely hollow and phony to me...I do not trust this person and I don't think I ever can...I certainly do not trust that he is somehow above being corrupted by the huge money interests that are rife in the NY/NJ metro area and this is the second instance where he's gone after a team from outside the NY sphere that is a direct competitor to a NY NFL team.

Just as an attack on the Patriots weakens their position to vie for the Super Bowl with the NY Jets, so does an attack on the Saints weaken THEIR position vis a vis the NY Giants....even the smallest instance of damage increases the odds in the NY teams' favor...how anyone can just sit there and deny this is staggering...if history in this country the past 50 years has shown us anything, it's that corruption exists everywhere throughout all strata, and where there are huge amounts of money and power at stake, there are continual attempts to grab it at whatever cost, legal or illegal.Where on this planet is the arena and potential for massive profit any larger than the NY metropolitan area? Too tempting...too much wink wink, nod nod insider shenanigans to just turn a blind eye and trust implicitly.

No, I do not trust Roger Goodell just because he's the commissioner of the NFL....and his secretive, hidden agendas, his heavy handed Draconian decisions and the persistent public phoniness do nothing to exacerbate that distrust.

Fair enough Joker I just don't think Goodell is trying to create New York NFL Zion by attempting to weaken the competition the New York teams face. He'd effectively cut the nose off the NFL's face to drive some strange agenda.

My position is, the NFL needs someone to punish teams when they transgress. In these instances, despite the different levels of transgression, the Patriots and Saints deserved to be punished for breaking established NFL edict.

I certainly don't agree with a lot of Goodell's rulings or actions but the fact is he's administered the game into in a great position on the back of Tagliabue, TV ratings and revenues are high, international interest and exposure is increasing and the league is moving to look after present and former players at levels unseen before and more importantly we get to talk about the NFL 24/7 all year around. I sure as hell don't talk hockey, baseball and basketball all year around, but football, you bet I do.

For the record (and so you understand me completely) big business always has and always will have secret agendas that facilitate their operations. I try not to concern myself with that. I'll leave it to those at the top to concern themselves with that. It's a headache I can do without.

Of course I understand and you are right, in that you are a moral person and you expect things to fair, square and on the level especially when it concerns this great sport and this great league.

Expectations such as these are what should be the paradigm...but alas, for me, I cannot but suspect that yes, given the requisite remuneration,in whatever form, this man would indeed cut off the NFL's nose and bite the hands of the owners who employ him, if it means a percentage of the galactic pie that would be split up in the event of a Giants/Jets Super bowl in 2014....you see, it's what he does and has been doing and what is scheduled for 2014 that raises my NORAD alert level to red...if anyone thinks a Giant/Jet Super Bowl in 2014 is "just a terrif coinky dinky, really gosh gee willikers!!!"then I have some really special waterfront property on planet Uranus for sale...cheap...

This goes against my policy of not replying to posts with random words in ALL-CAPS, but I don't get this particular knock on Goodell. The man is the commissioner of a huge, multi-billion dollar enterprise, why should he bother responding to sports blogs? Maybe he should go on messageboards and reply to posts about him, too? Blog writers can check their sources or else they can write crap, it's all on them.

Unfortunately then I am unable to reply with my incisive cogent rejoinder

Joker, I for one find your rants entertaining and yes, cathartic in a Primal Scream therapeutic sorta way.
You are however certifiably batsh!t crazy on the topic of former Jet employee Goodell

uh oh Pherein, you're sounding as mad as we sounded after sh*tgate. The commish sure has a way of ticking off football fans. Thats probably not a good thing

lol, yeah. I don't think we are mad at the ruling as much as he says its good for football, but allows us to be bashed for months on end on the NFL channel.
What happened to us both was probably deserved but the tragedy is the truth never surfaced about spygate. Allowing years of other fans making things up.
I respect your past, but I don't want to live with it,lol.

Goodell is allowing us to be thrown to the media wolves also, and again refuses to release the facts about what happened , and who else is doing it.
I swear, at first I was just a shamed, but now this man is pissing me off, by allowing this circus court and the NFL making false statements.
I really don't see how the Patriots conclusion or allowing us to follow the same course of berated distain helps the NFL.
Every year its a new thing with Goddell, that has nothing to do with football.
Im really starting to think he's a ego maniac that can't handle the position.
After all if he knew the sport, he would know not only Saints fans are tired of hearing about this, but all fans are. Yeah, surprisingly to me, Im a little pissed.

Maybe not. But doing nothing might not help either. Vilma might be wrong, but he's right to want to see what he is accused of. IF this can make Goodell think twice about flaunting his power, and get his ego in check. I think its a good thing. I don't think Vilma's case has anything to do with the Saints.
Its about sending a message to Goodell and the NFL that you better have proof of what your saying, because we are going to call you on it from now on.

I hope Vilma wins and shows what I believe, they don't have anything, because that sends a better message, and better for the sport.

Never stopped me before...and there is still a good chance that my paranoid delusion of a Jets/Giants Super Bowl will happen in 2014...which,if it does,no one here will have to suffer my DeBergerac inspired forays into Windmill-mania Land any longer, for I will only be looking at the skies for the certain impending alien invasion.

How is it slinging mud to say that, if he's lying, then it's good that he's getting sued. If he's not lying, then that's what his lawyers are for.

Thats the biggest problem I have with both cameragate and bountygate, I think the punishment is excessive but I guess if your a fan of another team it may give you confidence that everythings on the up and up and if it isnt Goodell will find you out and make you pay. He allows these things to get out of hand on what fans of other teams believe and they start speculating and thats not a good thing.
