Stephen Neal re-signed - 2 year deal

Re: Stephen Neal re-signed

Really ? Kind of strange how one of the best guards in the league wasn't even tendered by the team and not only was he not tendered, he was free to the league and guess why he's back........take a guess.......you got it.

NO ONE WANTED HIM ............. !

Imagine that, one team did want him, one coach wants him back, he loves seeing the right side of his OLine get abused, welcome back Stephen "On the Back Nine" Neal.

He was the one guy I hope walked.....Nope, leave it to BB to reup a guy like this. Pierre Woods is on the verge or a major 5 year deal, I can sense it.

This is like one of those moments on Family Guy when Peter says something so incredibly wrong that Lois is dumbfounded.

First, Neal wasn't eligible to be tendered. Second, you have absolutely no support for your statement that no one wanted him. The Pats gave him a chance when he'd never played football before and I have no reason to doubt that he's happy here. Third, he did play very well last year. Not to mention he was banged up throughout the season. Third, your accusation that Belichick enjoys watching part of his offense struggle (note again that Neal rarely struggled) is foolish.

Oh Peter.

Re: Stephen Neal re-signed

That must be why Chad Jackson is still on the team... because no one wanted him. That's not a reason to sign anyone, so that is not why Neal was re-signed. If you don't think Neal is good (when healthy) then I don't know what you are watching.

What are you talking about Koolaid boy? He wasn't tendered by BB, what does that tell you? They said Stephen, you are free to go, have fun out there getting a new deal. Guess what, there was no new deal to be found. No one wanted this oft-injured over the hill RG. End of Story. I am hoping we draft a starter at that spot in Round 2.

You forgot to mention that the right side of the O-Line only struggled when Neal was out. Don't bother arguing with him. He's one of those guys who is completely obsessed with Clay Matthews and, yet, overlooks the fact that Matthews would have probably been a terrible fit in the two gap defense (especially given who he would be rushing the passer behind... either one of Mike Wright or Jarvis Green).

Tendered, signed, approached with an offer w/e..........The Pats basically told him to see if he can find a better offer, NOTHING WAS OUT THERE FOR ONE OF THE BEST RGs IN FOOTBALL. MMMM, I wonder why ? That's kind of strange, wouldn't you think someone would have inquired about one of the best RGs in the league? I have scanned every and all football sites and didn't read one sniff on Stephen Neal. Did you watch the right side of our offensive line last season ? Neal hasn't opened a freakin hole in 2 seasons. He's done !

Did you hear about Wilfork drawing interest anywhere? While he was franchised, he was eligible to pursue offers from other teams. No, you didn't. Because the Pats made him a priority. Ditto for Neal.

Nevermind the fact that he wasn't even on the market for 24 hours (and that's not even knowing what the Pats had in place for him BEFORE free agency, but decided not to make it known). You should probably look into developing some basic critical thinking skills. Is Neal what he once was? No. But it's a good resigning because he still does have something left in the tank and can be used as an effective stopgap until whomever we draft this year (I believe we will draft a RG) is ready to step in fulltime. There is nothing wrong with this signing.

Vince was tagged, no one was going to pay a 1 and 3 to sign him. Neal was free to go anywhere. Accept the fact that no one, no one wanted Stephen Neal, if you find a link that states otherwise, please inform me.

You are so small-minded it's not funny. You act as if you know everything that goes on behind the scenes and the ONLY information is public information. That is first and foremost. And secondly, he was a "FA" publicly for less than 24 hours. And you have no idea if his agent even entertained offers from others or if there was a deal in place early on but they were hammering out nitty gritty details.

Quit it Peter

I just said, I love the signing as depth, check my prior post. I don't want him starting, our ground game sucks, we never run over the right side, have you ever wondered why ? We need a change over there. Kaczur (another strange re-up) included.

Our offensive line on both sides (left and right) is not a good run blocking O-Line. That's at least part of the reason why the Faulk draw play was so often featured last season. Taking out this rant on Neal is pretty unfair to him considering the line play on the right side drastically improved whenever he was in last season.

The only thing I wonder is why you make **** up?

Maroney 2009

left side: 67 ATT, 3.5 YPC
right side: 60 ATT, 4.1 YPC

left sideline: 19 ATT, 3.7 YPC
right sideline: 11 ATT, 3.9 YPC

First, where did you get that information from? Secondly, did those numbers improve or decline with Neal out of the line-up?

ESPN and I'm not sure, I would assume the YPC went down without Neal as he's pretty damn good run blocking.

I just wanted to show Riddler how completely ignorant his "never run to the right" statement was.

The eye test should tell him that they ran to the right side plenty. My eyes saw it as I'm sure everyone else's did that actually watched the game without any sort of bias.

EDIT: Oh, and yes, I took you off my ignore list.

This is a solid signing, and not unexpected. It had been mentioned on the radio a week or so back, that Neal was probably going to return to the Patriots, and that he wanted to do so.

Now the Patriots need to find someone to play the position when he's hurt and moving forward. Nobody on the current roster demonstrated an ability to do so last season.

nail...meet hammer

So, does anyone know if he has chronic shoulder problems?

Well, kind of answered my own question. I see ankle and head injuries late 2009. Not good to get hit in the head, I'm sure, but better than shoulders made of mush as far as putting in a good two years here.

Hopefully the debilitating shoulder injuries of 2003, 2008 are in the past.
