I think you have to stick with Mac. He was good last season, his play was elite in college. He hasn't produced this year and I hate the way Patricia has called the games for Mac. Last season Mac was a high efficiency short passer, this year they are asking him to throw deep too often. Last year he got max protection, this year it seemed like he was being asked to find his hot routes to combat the blitz.

Zappe has been great. The play around him has been great with him in the game. The playcalling has been great when he's in the game. If conservative play calling worked for Zappe and worked for Mac last year it is beyond me why they don't call the offense the conservative way that QBs have succeeding with for last year and Zappe this year.

This team needs to be a run first squad regardless of the QB.

No matter who you prefer I think we can all agree that Bill needs to pick a QB and go with them. Neither will play better with half the reps and it could really mess them up developmentally/mentally.

Maybe so but honestly I haven’t seen that kind of response from a Boston crowd to an individual player before while they were on the team. I was/am pro-Zappe but I felt terribly for Mac regardless.

One thing that stood out is there are a lot of Boston fans not on this website. The chants for Zappe were alarming.

Yeah, it's ironic because a lot of Boston fans (including my friends) like to make fun of other fanbases for booing their own players at home games. Well, turns out Boston fans also do it. Shocking.

Are any of you people even from Boston? You suck, you get booed... Don't ****ing suck, and you won't get ****ing booed.
Anyone remember "I would've booed me too"? Apparently not, ****ing candy-asses.

The crowd last night wasn't all regulars, the makeup is a bit different for night games. The booing and chants for Zappe started before Mac's interception, during the second series. It was disturbing and embarrassing.

You of all people should know how things work in Boston sports... And, as it turned out, the people there Monday night were Right.

Who do you want as our next coach: Steve B. , Matty P, Joe J., a college coach, a current offense or defensive coordinator? Let me see some names?

I'll have them ready at season's end, which for us will be on Black Monday.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have booed, I'm saying a lot of Boston fans are hypocrites for criticizing other fans (like Yankees during the ALCS) who do the same thing.

Bill is a jackass for keeping this charade up. It's creating way more distractions and doing a disservice to both QBs. Go with Mac, try to make it work and after a few games if he can't improve, go to Zappe and trade Mac in the off season. You can always go back to Zappe. If you bench Mac, you'll probably lose him for good.

Seriously - I mean there's a reason why Ted Williams spat twice in the same game at fans in the crowd.

"I'm not a bit sorry for what I did," Williams says. "I was right and I'd spit again at the same fans who booed me today. Some of them are the worst in the world. Nobody's going to stop me from spitting."

What I was trying to say by "alarming" is that this board is not representative of what the majority of fans in Boston are thinking. Prior to the Bears game, posters would accuse others of "trolling" if Zappe was suggested to play over Mac. I had also suggested that it would be odd if the people in Boston like Mac's personality as he comes across as kind of a wuss. The crowd agreed and wanted Mac out.

Regardless of my thoughts on who should be QB, I think it was a bit of a sh** move for fans to be booing Mac Jones. Kid has done nothing but play yard and work hard. We are better than that.

Hard to see a lot of the pro-Zappe crowd as folks who simply don't rate Mac and want a change. That's fine I suppose. However, Zappe isn't QB1. You could draft Sam Hartman from Wake Forest in the 4th and he'd be an instant upgrade. To be fair, I'm not totally sold on Mac despite winning a National Championship for Alabama. However, if Mac isn't the answer, neither is Zappe i.e. it's back to the draft. Interesting times ahead, starting with the Jete on Sunday.

Zappe could be the guy.
One bad half doesn’t mean we throw him out.
I could see us clearing cap for a Lamar Jackson move.

Help me understand why you and many others on this forum are confidently proclaiming that Zappe isn't the answer considering how well he has played so far this year. The guy still has a rating over 100 and has played 1 bad half in the entire year.

Just don't see him as a future franchise QB in the NFL. Neither do most teams considering he went in the 4th....and before you say "Brady in the 6th", Tom played for Michigan and won an Orange Bowl against Alabama. Nothing against the kid, personally would just prefer someone taller (6'3 or 6'4) who is legitimately mobile with a cannon arm - asking a lot maybe, but have to dream.

This year hes struggled but its just a 3 game sample with him this year, plus the indy/@Mia games late last year were pretty bad. Other than that he’s been mostly fine. 88 rating overall which im ok with for a rookie/early 2nd season guy. He put up 3 50 burgers last year, against bad teams yeah but you don’t see that often from rookies, if ever.

The concern is of course the struggles are all very recent dating back to the end of last season so has he been figured out and/or struggling with the current staff. But its still early
I agree Mac looked pretty good for a rookie last year for a nice stretch but as the season wore on he seemed to get worse. I just chalked it up to a rookie wall and playing some good teams but this year he has regressed badly. I am sure having a new coordinator in year two is going to affect almost all young quarterbacks to some extent but having a first time play caller probably isn't helping. With that being said Patricia is only apart of the issue. Mac's decision making is flat out terrible at this point and he is throwing the ball up for grabs or not seeing guys in coverage. His inability to hit those seam routes kills us with the tight ends in the middle of the field and his arm strength makes me nervous on some of those quick outs. I don’t think he is a lost cause yet but Bill yanking him early on Monday certainly doesn't give me a ton of hope that Mac will turn it around.

I was there and after Zappe's second touchdown drive people were literally taking off their Mac jerseys and throwing them on the ground. As far as Mac and Zappe are concerned I don't really have a dog in the fight as far as being beholden to one or the other but this fanbase continues to embarrass itself quite a bit.

Yeah unfortunately he looks completely lost out there for the most part this year, and monday was the worst I’ve seen him. It’s concerning, im not going to dispute that part of it. But its his 2nd year, we still have a ways to go before we see if its a permanent downtrend or just a bump in his development.

You can't throw moon balls over the middle they have to be lasers.

I agree that I am not sure yet if he (or Mac) is the franchise QB... BUT, its not because of his height or college career... There have been plenty of elite or franchise NFL QBs that are less than 6'3... Drew Brees, Doug Floutie, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murrary, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Dak Prescott, Mike Vick, Tua.

Zappe is 6'1... He's not exactly a shrimp.

His college career (holds NCAA records for TDs and Passing yards) was actually very impressive but it was nowhere near competition that Brady had at Michigan. He also seems to have a great pocket presence/awareness and reacts quickly. Not his best half the other night for sure but I do think there is something there...

My main concern with Mac is his footwork and his lack of arm strength. He seems to have very little pocket presence and resorts to tucking and running more than he should have to.

I am honestly not in either camp (Mac/Zappe).

Yes. Sadly its most likely back to the draft if the goal is to be an elite team in this league.

Zappe will be a career back up

Mac will be a top 15 qb but not here. Once McDaniels left his future in NE was clear

He's been good but he's tiny.
