Assuming we resign Edelman would you trade Mallett and Amendola to Houston for #33?

It is more realistic for a third which is really a second on this board or a fourth which is really a third on this board...

Makes no sense for the Texans to do this...

The thing you don't understandi s no you are NOT expanding options. Moving Amendola means his contract is acellerated into this years CAP. Period. You still don't have any additional money to sign Edelmen than you did before, you have less. You simply pissed it away into dead money, and don't have either Amendola nor Edelmen nor Mallett and even less money to do anything about it.

Moving Mallett just commits you to spending a another $ million or 2, just to get back to where you are now, It doesn't expand anything, it narrows the Pats options.

That is why BB would never do that deal.

The deal would be contingent on Mallet and Almendola passing physicals.

Mallet would pass because his career consists of playing dominoes in the Pats locker room, but Almendola would get hurt packing his suitcase nixing the trade.

Why do the Texans want string bean Mallet and a WR who is never healthy in this deep draft?

If BOB pulls the trigger hes gone loony like Ditka.

Well if we're talking about Houston, then BO'B saw him in practice every day for his rookie season and Godsey did for all three. They should have an awfully good idea of where he's at right now.

Now if we're talking about a team like Minnesota, then I agree that it'd be hard to make any trade with no real idea of how his value has changed in three years.

Sciz you sneaky bastid; you voted for all 3 options!

Really, this becomes the Pats getting #33 for one of two options:

A) Mallett, Amendola, and a 3rd round pick.

or

B) Mallett, Amendola, and a few million in cap space.

Basically, if Mallett leaves, you need to replace him. This either happens in the draft (likely by the 3rd round if you want anyone with a decent chance of being a reliable backup), or in free agency, where you're going to be paying actual money for anyone of confidence. Since dealing Amendola doesn't actually save you any cap space (and in fact may cost you a little), the value of this trade is even less.

And this doesn't even take into account of replacing Amendola's spot as a WR. Even if you don't like him as a player, you still need a body for the spot.

What would the Patriots do if Tom Brady was rendered unconscious by a meteorite striking his house

Good question primetime, a "Would You Cut Danny Amendola if Tom Brady's House Was Struck By A Meteorite ?" thread is next up. A poll will accompany it, and a "Should Danny Amendola Be Cut if Giselle Has Wes Welker's Baby ?" thread should be right behind it. All good questions that really need to be answered as soon as possible, fortunately those questions and a thousand more about getting rid of Dann Amendola will definitely be asked in this forum until he is released.

Not really Ditka trades his entire draft for a pot head RB. O'Brien would be trading one pick in the second round to acquire a potential starting QB and a top 10 slot receiver in the NFL.

If this was 2011 it would essentially be Ras-I Dowling for Mallett and Amendola.

Amendola has near zero trade value. If he was a free agent today, he would not receive on offer that looks like the remainder of his contract.

So your question basically becomes: Would you trade Mallet for #33. Which will never happen.

If they convert all but $730K of Amendola's salary to a bonus his cap hit would be $2.51M against our 2014 cap. Then trade him to the Texans and the future cap hits are their burden to renegotiate. We would save $2M against the cap this season.

That would give the Texans Amendola and Mallett for one season at a low price.

Could we trade Amendola for a ham sandwich and a $1.09 bag of Doritos?

Discuss.

There have been rumors that O’Brien may have interest in Mallett. If we resign Edelman, we do not really need Amendola too and he would likely be released after 2014 unless he had a breakout season. Most in here believe Mallett is not worth the #33 pick on his own, and we know that O’Brien uses a slot receiver in his offenses so I thought potentially adding Amendola into the mix along with Mallett could be a way to make the trade work for both sides.

The trade is not really about Amendola, it is about the rumored interest O’Brien may have in Mallett. Mallett is the centerpiece of the deal, Amendola (or Edelman) would be a throw in to add enough value to get the #33 pick, sort of like Vrabel was thrown into the Cassel deal.

I agree. I think they'd need to resign themselves to egg salad to find any takers.

Absolutely and I'd add Steven Ridley in just to sweeten the deal a bit.

Trade the whole team for picks in the draft, sign Jimmy Clausen to play quarterback, boom instant Super Bowl

Sorry I just think this thread is dumb because I'm Amendola's adopted son

I hear you; this trade is a stupid idea, the players included in this deal (Mallett and Amendola) both contributed so much to our SB pursuit in 2013-14. If it was not for their combined zero net yards in the AFC Championship game…

Well that explains why you have not mentioned Mallett at all who would be the centerpiece of the trade, but instead you focus solely on Amendola.

If the thread did not include Amendola in it would you even be in here pouting? If it was titled trade Mallett and Ridley, or Mallett and Dennard?

Nobody said Amendola or the player that is being ignored Mallett sucks; it is about taking assets that we have, and trading them for something of value to us. If we resign Edelman (which as I said in the OP this deal is contingent on) then do we really need Amendola on this team as well, or would we be better off with the #33 pick and the future cap space? He would hit us at $4.8M but that is a sunk cost so no matter what we will be paying that cost, either this season or for the next four, at least this way we get something in return.

Yep, NOW i can see why the Texans would want to make the deal.
