And the season is over. Why cannot people understand this? The priority of this season is to develop Maye. That takes priority over everything else. And if he isn't ready to start. Don't start him.
This reasoning completely falls apart with Maye being the backup. They are completely fine throwing him out there not ready if Brissett gets injured. He is ready to play or he isn’t. If he isn’t then he shouldn’t be the back up if he needs to learn more blitzes look or whatever the excuses will be next.

This is an absolutely unhinged take. Go look at the QBs under Bill Belichick with the Patriots, and go check to see how many starts they have around the league. Not to mention those who have gone on to be top-level coaches.

It isn't unhinged. Brady was special. But he felt he could win with any decent enough QB.

You don't know that. They don't expect Brissett to get injured and if he does, they can always make the decision to find someone else to pick up or just start Milton instead.

Belichick valued having a competent back up so he did end up in a Curtis Painter situation. However there were plenty of suggestions that for his starter he thought if someone was around average he could turn them into a Super Bowl contender. Remember he chose to let Brady walk and potentially start the season with Stidham.

No it doesn't. Even with this crappy line, the way they protect the QB the odds of Brissett missing extended time due to injuries are low.

But hey, you convinced me to start him before he is ready. I will just hope if he busts out, he does it quickly because Arch Manning is likely going to be in the 2026 draft.

"Chose".

You're right. Miami lost a first round pick for absolutely no reason.

Edit: And Stidham is still in the league.

We have a clue, they wouldn't be feeding him 30% in practice.
No chance they are playing Milton over Maye.

And reports were that Belichick was ready to let Brady walk after the 2014 season and move onto Garoppolo before he ended up trading him for peanuts to the 49ers since it looks like Kraft sided with Brady.

EDIT: 2017

You do realize Miami lost a first round pick for tampering when he was in New England AND Tampa right?

Anyways we know why Brady left and what his issue with being here was. We also know what Bill was offering in negotiations

Yeah, if Brissett goes down for an extended period of time, they have to start Maye. You cannot start a sixth round rookie over Maye in that situation. The only way they would have passed over Maye in this situation would have been if they had a seasoned veteran with starting experience on the roster or the practice squad. But they couldn't waste a roster spot and I am not sure a QB like that of any decent quality would want to be on the practice squad.

Bill wanted to get ready to let Brady go in 2014 and then 2017. He would have cost the team anywhere between 1 to 3 Super Bowls.

He underrated the **** out of how much the team's success was due to Brady.

I'm as excited about Maye as anyone, but I have to say I really don't want to see him get killed behind this line. This season is lost. It's time to tank, secure the #1 pick, and then trade back for a nice haul you use to rebuild this offense around Maye for 2025.

They could very easily look for an unsigned vet to pick up. Acting like Brissett going down forces their hand going forward is silly. We've seen teams bypass their depth chart back up when the QB went down for someone else.

Yeah, I got the years wrong. It was 2017 when Belichick was ready to move on from Garoppolo. But in 2014, Belichick was already talking about how Brady didn't have much time left and it was time to prepare for life without him.

Who said they couldn't?

What effort? They left 40 mill unspent. Their top signing were brissett, Osborne, chunks and Gibson
I said effort. They tried to get talent and made significant offers to two top-tier WRs, as opposed to Belichick constantly lowballing them/waiting for them to be troubled assets before acquiring them.

Milton more ready??

If Belichick really wanted Garoppolo to be the future, he shouldn't have extended Brady in 2015. [Of course, after SB51, trading Brady would've been a pitchforks-and-torches moment in Foxboro.]

They didn’t get them. They left 40 mill on the table. The bottom half of our roster may be the worst in the nfl in 30 years.

Everyone knows those reports were BS. John lynch said he asked about Brady and was laughed at.
