What QB(s) would you like to see the Pats draft?

By trading Jimmy G, the Patriots made an investment in Tom Brady. Regardless of who made the decision, the plan is clearly to ride Brady into the sunset. That gives the team realistically about 3 - 4 years to find a replacement.

This in mind, I don't see the need to draft the wrong QB. If the right value is a QB, the Patriots will pick a QB. If the value is not there, they will look elsewhere.

I see a strategy of moving down and stockpiling future picks, this way they have the flexibility to move around and take their guy in 2019 or 2020.

If Jimmy is really so great, and the "Next Great Thing" why was he available for Pats in the second round? (late second too I think)

It doesn't matter why he was available in the 2nd, he is what he is, and so far he's looking excellent.

Mallett was here for a few years and didn't get the slightest bit better. Hoyer has been VERY underwhelming as a starter.

Jimmy G is looking more like the real deal every game.

Considering the fact that Garoppolo didn’t start to show progress until years two and three, I think it’s safe to say that they’ll be taking a QB in one of the best classes at the position in a long time.

If they take one as expected in 2018, he won’t be ready to take over until year three (2020). Just how many more years do you think we can assume that Brady will be here playing at the same level? While hoping for another 4-5 years is fine, I don’t think you can sit on your hands with anything below 2-3 more years without having some type of preparation plan.

You seem to be suggesting that they have the flexibility to wait until 2019 or 2020, but that’s not true. That would mean that the new QB wouldn’t be able to learn the system and be starter-ready until 2022 or so.

i caught deus fudging the numbers on his passer rating "analysis".....you saw that, right?
No. I saw you question the numbers and Deus and others point out how the gap between poor and fine was very small based on two simple plays. He also provided more examples from previous years to help place this “streak of bad play” in its proper context.

Whether you choose to believe that or not is up to you, and I, too, have questioned how bad his play has been over the past several games, but I’m not sure that you “caught” him fudging the numbers. Like I’ve mentioned before, he’s not some insufferable homer that will bury his head in the sand and ignore facts. When there’s a reasonable criticism of the players or coach, he will point it out. I think he was simply trying to bring you back in from the ledge by pointing out the huge difference that a couple of more obvious examples could make, that’s all.

Daniel Jones of Duke

You don’t know if his stock can get much higher?

I don’t know if his stock can get much lower, especially after getting made to look like a high school QB last night in the bowl game. He looked absolutely pathetic and they would’ve been shut out had it not been for a terrible muffed punt inside the 20 yard line.

How many turnovers was he responsible for this season? I’m sure he’ll still come out and go in the first or second round, but he’s far from being the #1 pick that some here assumed.

It shows you USC's far from competing with the likes of OSU or Alabama. If he goes back he might get exposed more. He's still a top 10 talent. He should go this year. There's no way he falls to the second round.

i was talking about the precise qb rating for the last 4 games

deus got it wrong......you agreed that my numbers were correct......i presume you still do

whether he got them wrong by mistake or purpose......who knows

the larger point about bradys play is a different issue

Lamar Jackson looks worse than darnold. Back to school for lamar Jackson.

Jackson has never taken a big hit that I'v seen. Great job at avoiding that thump.

His build isn't really that much of a concern bc hes .... 20!

I believe him and Rosen weigh the same and nobody questions Rosens build?

I think part of why Jimmy is great is because he was here with Brady, Belichick, and McDaniels for 3 plus years. He is excellent, but that helped.

Which gives me hope that we could replicate it with another good QB selection in 2nd or 3rd round.

He came out of a small school.

Had smaller than average hands.

Lots of trouble feeling & identifying pressure.

Not undersized but not that 6'4-6'5 guy either.

Also I don't believe anyone is overlooked if you're a top 64 pick (62)

That said, Hoyer managed to lead a 26-point comeback on the road a few years ago. . . .

LOL 114 pass amts w/out an INT and throws 2 when I talk him up.

One thing Jackson has to improve on is throwing is guys open for ya

The NFL adjusts. See Dak Prescott 2016 vs. 2017.

There's a YouTube channel called "The Film Room." The guy who does it just analyzed Garoppolo. He noted that Garoppolo can get the ball out so fast that he can complete passes even when a DB knows where the ball is going before he starts to throw.
