What QB(s) would you like to see the Pats draft?

Just gonna defer to BB and Josh on this one. Maybe they've been scouting one for a while that they may get in the 3rd or 4th round?

Well, we'll pick up at least one 7th rounder in the second round, so we may have to wait till at least the 3rd or 4th for our qb who, let's hope, has second round talent.

I hear Kontra & other people's concerns that he may not be a great fit for the offensive system we run. BB has adapted from the 3-4, to the 4-3, 3-3-5/5-2 & everything in between on defense. If he stays past Brady I wouldn't put it past him to build a new offense around the next QB's skill set.

The only problem with this is that BB is not fond of the mobile QB. He's basically asked, "How often can you have your QB run before he gets broken in half?"

Could not agree more.....they were talking about Jimmy ad nauseam on all Boston radio stations today.....and everyone agrees that something weird went down with trade of Jimmy G. Their collective opinions were that there was NO WAY that B.B. was going to move BOTH Brissett and Garropolo......and that the original plan was to move Brissett and then most likely franchise Jimmy.....but that either Brady or Kraft made decision that Jimmy had to go....because Brady was going to play until 45.....and he didn’t need any competition!!!

Well time will tell on Jimmy....I get that....but from all initial play and feedback on him.....he is going to be one of the league’s next BIG franchise QB.....and unless TFB can play for another HIGH level for at least 3 more years....one would think keeping Jimmy around (which from all reports BB really wanted).....was the right thing to do.

Hopefully Tom can avoid injury and keep playing well into his mid forties to prove all the analysts and naysayers wrong!!!

this is such a depressing topic for me.......and my mental health can be precarious

we had the next guy......and now he is gone

someone please tell me i'm gonna be ok......tell me i'm a good guy

I believbe hoinesty is the best policy - so no you won't and you're not.
dont you think that you are a little hard on me?

i still get plenty of upvotes.....even with my tongue-in-cheek style

my self deprecating humor sets up other posters to clobber me with funny insults

i caught deus fudging the numbers on his passer rating "analysis".....you saw that, right?

i think i am a unique poster here.....nobody quite like me

plus....we are fans of the greatest NFL dynasty of all time......shouldn't we lighten up and have fun?

Someone with the following scouting report...
  • Poor build
  • Skinny
  • Lacks great physical stature and strength
  • Lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush
  • Lacks a really strong arm
  • Can’t drive the ball downfield
  • Does not throw a really tight spiral
  • System-type player who can get exposed if forced to ad-lib
  • Gets knocked down easily

Yes they should jockey for the 199th pick

Before listing what QBs i'll name here are the key things I look at.

#1 Does the QB run alot? If he does that is a HUGE red flag. If the college QB runs a lot to make plays that makes me wonder how well he will be able to succeed at the NFL level. Running QBs don't tend to do well or last long.

#2 What is the completion %? A lot of people look at yards, TDs and Ints but completion % is one of the most important thing for a college QB and translates well into the NFL consistently. High completion % means they hit routine and easy throws for short yardage a lot and don't just live off big plays that CBs blow in college that won't be there.

Those to me are the main things I look for in a college QB. Now this isn't how i looked at the position 10 years ago but since the short passing game ha truly come into style it is how i look at it now. Very few QBs in college are only given deep route options.

#3 How does the player look in the pocket. He he have a "flow" to his game or is it more "choppy". This to me is key. When he gets to the line what does he do. When he drops back is it deliberate and calm or jumping. When the first option isn't open does he start to run around useless, take off entirely or slide and keep his eyes down field.

I agree with others here that Lamar Jackson might be the answer. He's only 20 years old (perfect for our situation). He completed 60% of his passes (only 6 interceptions) He's improving all the time from the p0ocket. Like BB, he's incredibly focused on the next opponent (in fact he seems to imitate BB in many ways when interviewed). He always deflects praise to the team, and never minimizes an opponent.

Oh yeah, he sure can run and racked up 1500 yards this year. But by the time he's been around here for 3 years, he'll know exactly how to run and when. And age 23 is the perfect time for him to given the torch from the GOAT.

I feel darnold should come out. Idk if his stock could get much higher. He could make the same mistake as Barkley.

The only problem with this is that BB is not fond of the mobile QB. He's basically asked, "How often can you have your QB run before he gets broken in half?"

Good point. Maybe they could get him to play smart when running like Wilson. Jackson's slender build will probably lead to injuries if he doesn't protect himself.

Those zone read plays BB/Mcdaniels installed for Brissett vs. Houston just make me think of the possibilities of a guy who may have 4.4 speed & the elusiveness of a RB that can pass well enough to drop back the vast majority of the time.

I like Mayfield.

But no way he's around when we are ready to pick a QB.

Like Hubbard from Ohio state. Wish we could get him in the draft.

You don’t know if his stock can get much higher?

I don’t know if his stock can get much lower, especially after getting made to look like a high school QB last night in the bowl game. He looked absolutely pathetic and they would’ve been shut out had it not been for a terrible muffed punt inside the 20 yard line.

How many turnovers was he responsible for this season? I’m sure he’ll still come out and go in the first or second round, but he’s far from being the #1 pick that some here assumed.

!

After being not able to get much traction out of the Guerrero/Brady/Belichick/Kraft brouhaha.. as hard as they tried. They once again rehash the Garrapolo trade and how we all got fleeced.. never have heard about how the Pats would have fared if they tied up JG with the franchise tag and paid Brady the same.. 50 million plus salary cap in one position. None of it fits with the Pats economic system..

Sportstalk radio has rapidly descended into a cesspool of mediocrity, faux controversy or whining about how poorly they are treated or so misunderstood..

If Jimmy is really so great, and the "Next Great Thing" why was he available for Pats in the second round? (late second too I think)

I think part of why Jimmy is great is because he was here with Brady, Belichick, and McDaniels for 3 plus years. He is excellent, but that helped.

Which gives me hope that we could replicate it with another good QB selection in 2nd or 3rd round.

Are some of you people just making up names to see if anyone notices? There's been like 20 names thrown out.

I wonder if bill would trade up for a QB in this draft if he felt good about him. How would brady feel about it?

Who gives a **** what Brady feels about it ? JG was shipped out; what other sign of loyalty can he want ?

I guess we will hear those absolute ******** conspiracy theories for the next 20-30 years, right ?

I wish those dimwits would stop talking to explain in a coherent way how exactly we would have franchised JG without gutting half the team to make the cap work.

There is speculation that Clayton Thorson may enter the draft in an effort to receive better medical treatment. If he does opt to come out, he would be a perfect late round pick for the Pats. They IR him for a year to recover & learn the offense. They could still take another QB earlier in the draft.
