What if we trade McCourty for some draft capital or a player?
Harmon and Chung are still there. Draft a young safety (which BB will do anyway).
I think McCourty is over-hyped here. 2016 was better.

Take a shot at Jackson at #31? Is he Michael Bishop redo? Is he Brissett (no thanks)?

I'm posting this in this thread for now, because the first thing I did was to check out how much the Eagles paid him in 2017, and how much they might be able to re-sign him for.

Which is when I discover that, at the moment, the Eagles are already $9.28M OVER THE CAP, according to, well, overthecap.com:

Philadelphia Eagles Salary Cap | Over the Cap

After scrolling through the list of their current contracts, I came to the conclusion that they're pretty much screwed. I don't see how they're going to be able to even get under the cap without cutting some key players and/or significantly re-structuring several others who are on fairly recently signed contracts.

I’m assuming that some consideration will be given to trading Foles while his value is at its highest. That would obviously help.

Almost all those guys are definitely Gone.

Dorsett might stay if he takes a cut. Gillisslee might get a chance if he takes a cut also.

Branch and Allen alone will save a lot of money and both will for sure be cut.

Traded before June 1st nets the Eagles about $4.7M in 2018 cap space. Traded after June 1st, it's about $6.5M.

Obviously, they need cap space RTFN, so actions after June 1st don't help a whole lot.

It would not shock me if several quarterback starved teams trade back into the bottom of the first round to reach for a quarterback ahead of the New England Patriots (31st overall).

The two biggest salary cap savings are cutting Martellus Bennett ($6,187,500) and Dwayne Allen ($5,000,000).

Unfortunately, re-signing left offensive tackle Nate Solder will eat up most if not all of the aforementioned salary cap savings.

When do we begin to see cuts and other transactions?

Solder was already making $10 million a year on his previous deal, so its not going to take a whole lot to fit him back on the roster at a $2 million increase

But is he really a 3/$36m player? That's a question that the Patriots have to answer from their perspective. I don't think he's worth that, but the OLT FA market has nothing in it, as of now, and the Patriots will have to take that into account.

I really don't like Brissett as a QB. While he may win a few games here and there, I don't think he ever gains those valuable skills that make franchise QBs. I think that having him here as a backup would prevent the franchise from drafting another, potentially better, QB.

So, cutting Bennett, Allen and Harris would save close to $12 million bringing cap space to about $25 million? Am I reading that right?

    Assuming they are cut:

    Bennett - $6,187,500
    Allen - $5,000,000
    Harris - $2,125,000
    Total - $13,312,500

    Branch - 3,555,000
    Total - $16,867,5000

    OTC's current projection - $13,712,155
    Total - $30,579,655

Four cuts gets the team to $30m+ under the cap, though it would impact the TE position.
