I'm sure the schedule makers had no idea that Elliott might be suspended for a game or two when they had the Cowboys open with Giants..... not (*Yes I am aware that the Giants opened with the Cowboys the last two years but it is so convenient),
There are essentially 4 tiers of punishment in the NFL;
1) Giants and Steelers who are essentially bulletproof and when they do get punished, it is minimal at best (e.g. Steeler kicker get 1 gamer initially for Domestic Violence). Maras and Rooneys have run this league before this commissioner and will long after Goodell is gone.......
2) Teacher's pets who get lighter treatment that makes you to scratch your head. This includes Balt (Ray Rice initially), Denver, Jets ( Revis tampering for example)and Dallas (depends on Elliott penalty to see if they belong below)
3) Everybody else but NE who gets punishment that contrasts to the teams above. This includes the Saints in Bountygate or the hammer that fell on KC for tampering.
4) Patriots- no evidence or science needed for the witchhunt.
I may have missed something but I think I'm close....
Does anybody doubt that Michael Floyd would have gotten more than a 4 game suspension had he resigned with the PAtriots???
Pretty good list, but I think the Jete are in tier #1.
