Vikings decline Adrian Peterson's option, making him a FA

I don't think the Patriots would ever consider drafting Mixon. Shades of Christian Peter. I'll let other people wiser than I compare what Mixon did to what Peterson did.

Personally I'm not for signing either. That's just me.

I like Blount a lot and hope he returns. He ran hard and held onto the ball (other than the SB). Great character guy etc...

But it sounds like he might get better offers elsewhere to which I would wish him the best.

Is AP a good blocker? In my view, the protection he can afford to the GOAT is as important as his running abilities. If AP can block and is willing to block, come on over and the team will take your measurement for the ring.
The thing about LGB is that he worships Brady and lays out his body to protect his idol every time. I hate to lose him. Heck, we all know that we do not run in the playoffs (unless it is Indy).

NO! He is a HORRIBLE blocker. An absolute liability as far as blocking, blitz pickup. That was fine if we're talking about the OLD AP- the beast. He's not that guy any more and he could get TB killed.
He just said he'd be willing to play for the Pats at a discount- he wants a ring. And Blount looks gone. Despite that I'd be surprised if the Pats went after him.

Im intrigued At a motivated AP who can donianate when hes at his best.
Can we squeeze one last great season out of him?
Could you imagine handing off to AP at the goal line?
Its not fair Heres a dream Gronk Bennett on the edge blocking AP following Devlin to the End Zone.

If Blount really gets his deal, Peterson is easy enough on the money demands for the Patriots and accepting of what his role would be, and BB thinks Peterson can still play, signing the guy should happen as soon as possible. If the team is planning to bring back Blount, Peterson and the team can't agree on money terms or his role, or the team just thinks Peterson is done, the Patriots shouldn't be signing the guy.

It's pretty much that simple. His off field issues should have nothing to do with it.

AP on a cheaps for a year how many times have we made out in this same situation??? I am not opposed and yes he has had some fumble issues but the man was the Vikings Team. With AP we would beast in short yardage situations.

Coming off the 2003 season, Dillon was 30 years old with 1,865 career carries under his belt, and he was not coming off of a season-ending knee injury.

Peterson is turning 32 in a couple weeks, has 2,418 carries under his belt, missed most of last season with a knee injury and averaged slightly under 2.0 YPC for the brief stretch he did play.

Granted, back in 2003 I had similar reservations about Dillon that I do now about Peterson, but Peterson has a lot more wear on him than Dillon did, and Dillon was pretty close to the end in his own right. Dillon had one great year left in him, but I'm skeptical that Peterson's even got that. He's taken a pounding, and he never became versatile enough to overcome even a moderate dropoff as a pure runner.

I just thought the comparisons were interesting. If I had my choice, I'd rather have Charles at this point than AP. At least Charles can pass protect and he has more use in the passing game.

Much like Ray Rice, Mixon's biggest problem is there is video of his assault. Tyreek Hill became a media darling, even though what he did was worse.

Regardless, I don't think Kraft would interfere is Belichick selected Mixon. This isn't 1996, the days of the Spice Girls and Macarena.

On one hand, I don't have an issue with Peterson provided the incident has been addressed.....having raised 4 children and the background of all the friends that have passed through the house, I can see instances where culturally, it's not as bad as some make it out to be. I never hit my kids but I did want to kill each one more than once.

my belief is that corporal punishment teaches the wrong thing

On the other hand, I wonder how much he has left......I would do it on a one year or fake 2 year deal.....I would want to know he still has something before I guarantee anything

That's where the offset language from his Vikings contract becomes important.
Is there offset or did they just decline an option year?

Sign the beast? At age 31 how much does he have left in the tank. Would he be Dillon 2.0 for us, a good thing, or would he be Eddie George 2.0, a washed up thing?

I just thought the comparisons were interesting. If I had my choice, I'd rather have Charles at this point than AP. At least Charles can pass protect and he has more use in the passing game.

I don't think Charles can do much with those knees at point and pass protecting would probably be the least.

Don't ever know how much to read into things when it's the Pats, but...

Banks: Adrian Peterson Definitely Interested In Patriots, And Feeling Might Be Mutual

Take it with a grain of salt if you must because it is the Pats.

I echo this. I'm on record as saying it would be a no-brainer if everything lined up well.

I mean, Blount wasn't a particularly proficient pass-blocker or very good out of the shotgun (witness the first half of the Super Bowl, when they kept running him out of the shotgun in bewildering fashion) and Peterson's at least a marginally better receiver, or has been. It will come down to money and injury status; other than a year or two of Dillon, the Patriots have never really had a superstar all-around back in the vein of LeVeon Bell or David Johnson, but that hasn't prevented them from having effective offenses.

All this is to say is that Peterson's limitations as a player won't make a difference if they think he can do what Blount does but better and at a reasonable cost. On the other hand, he might be totally shot. 2,400 carries is a lot even without the injuries. Peterson has almost 550 more career carries, and over 600 more touches, than Corey Dillon did when he joined the Patriots.

That said, I'd probably rather have Charles than Peterson, if only because he's a more complete runner, the injury history isn't totally dissimilar, and he has significantly less wear in terms of carries.

A 32 year old running back? No thanks. And to those who are saying the Dillon signing is a comp, I will say this, Dillon was 29 when he came here and he was healthy, not coming off a torn Meniscus. By the time Dillon was 32 he was retired. I think some of us have become a little star struck by all of this.

So the consensus appears to be to sign Peterson to a short term deal and draft Mixon as his successor. I kid. I kid. At least that would give teams a legitimate reason to hate us.

Honestly, I wouldn't be too bothered with signing Mixon. What he did was terrible, but it was a momentary lapse in judgment or a reaction when his nerves were being tested. Racial slurs, spit on, slapped across the face and he just snapped. Not to diminish what he did as she posed no physical threat to him whatsoever and he's a powerful guy, but he was young, a day after his 18th birthday, and it was 2 1/2 years ago. So I think he deserves a second chance.
