Remaining Free Agency LT Options ... we still need to draft a guy

Perhaps Marrone is more optimistic about Wallace, Layden Robinson, Lowe and Jacobs than one might suspect
I’ve been thinking that might be a factor. First thing the new coaching staff would do is evaluate the existing roster, to see what they have to work with. If they saw things that should be easily corrected they would have a different sense of priorities than we do from looking at results last year.

I like Layden. Wallace was a reach but he started for Penn State so he has to be talented.

Depends on your definition of “ much.” I think teams would be willing to give up a 2nd to move to 4 for Carter. but I don’t think anyone is giving up a first for him. He’s not as good a prospect as Parsons was and he went at 8.
I note that you don't consider whether the trade partner is picking 5th or 15th.

Perhaps. Signing Moses and Schweitzer shows that we needed help. We will bring in at least one LT. The open question is whether we bring in an additional IOL.

Tyron Smith is the best guy is. He is also a true LT. He has mostly played that position so we wouldn't have to move him to guard. The downside is he doesn't seem able to play 17 games. In the last 9 years he's played 13 many times... but sometimes even less. The last 5 years have been particularly rough.. 2 11 4 13 and 10 games each season. At this point you kind of just hope he hits 13 : (

DJ Humphries is the #2 option IMO. He is more likely to play 17 than Smith, the only question is his health. He didn't look good for the short amount of time he played in 2024 after it. But he may be better. If he can play the way he did before the injury he is the best option. He was pretty good.

Some people think Jedrick Willis is a decent option too.. He may be the best 3rd... I just don't see it. I think it is one of the top 2 or probably better off trying to find our starter in the draft and hope for the best from what we have on the roster.

Could we trade our 4 for Joe Alt? I wanted him but Im glad we got Drake.
Needed Maye over Alt, but would trade our #4 for the OT who went #5 last draft. Chargers already have a young stud LT in Slater (which is why they played Alt at RT last year and he was excellent, but a better LT). I'd give them our #4 this draft and a 3rd Round Pick in 2026 for either Alt or Slater (who will only be 25 this season). LT for the next 10 years+ problem solved (as we'd be salivating over either if they were in this draft at #4).

I’ve read that DT is a major need for the Chargers. Harbaugh coached Mason Graham at Michigan and raves about him even calling him a gift from the football gods. It would be worth it for the Pats to inquire about it.

Sign Jedrick Willis and Oli Udoh if the medicals check out. This would provide bridge players.

Willis must be humbled enough by now to realize he's not getting a mega deal.

Udoh was coming off a leg injury last year so he's a full year removed from it now.

Both guys can play tackle or guard well enough if healthy and motivated.

The Pats should still draft some tackles, neither side has a longterm answer.

And couldn't stay on the field.
Glad he's done.

Not surprised Pape. He looked kind of cooked last season (and probably the season prior). But, in his prime he one of of the greats.
