Remaining Free Agency LT Options ... we still need to draft a guy

Something to think about:

The coaching last year, or perhaps the lack of coaching, was certainly suspect. Is it possible that Lowe is better than Robinson or whoever else is out there, but the coaching was so bad last year that they don't want to blow money on a guy or guys that are less than or maybe equal to what they have in house?

I think that's how bad the 2024 coaching staff was.

Yes, that's entirely possible. But I'm not sure the money saved is necessarily worth it. With OL, I'd rather have too many good options rather than put all my chips (pre-draft) on Lowe again, in case the in-house options don't pan out.

Nah Lowe was just bad. Bad coaching won't maximize a guy, but it doesn't make them terrible. Plenty of players had some of the worst coaches in the league and still played to a standard. Joe Thomas had a revolving door of a crappy HC's and still was winning All Pros.

I dunno. I am not a scout, but Marrone, Vrabel and JMcD will be better evaluators than Don't Be Bill Mayo, AVP and Scott Peters. Maybe?

Agreed, and I assume they know what they're doing. But I'm trusting them while having this expression on my face...

I guess that's what I am looking at, based on the lack of attention paid the the position. Maybe they think Lowe stinks less than Robinson.

See above. Talent rises above, sure. But guys who are bad need to be coached up. All I am saying is are they looking at what the market bears, what it costs to play in said market and think that they are better with what's in house? I'm not saying Lowe isn't bad. I am saying that maybe the guys available are equally bad.

Sure, I guess maybe I'm just confused a bit. You talked about the player he would be "after getting paid". I took that to mean that you think with a lucrative long term deal he'd be fine with the business decision stuff since he's taken care of. My point is that I don't think his level of play warrants a lucrative long term that deal that makes him feel taken care of. I think he's a one year prove it deal type of player, and that was the spot he's in last year and seemed to have a bad attitude about it.

So yeah, you can outbid another team and pay him more for that prove it year, but big picture I don't think that changes things. You're still putting him in a spot where he needs to play well and stay healthy to get paid long term and last year he didn't handle that well.
He wouldn’t be the first player who needed a push to play well. Trent Brown had to stay motivated and be pushed. Get talent in the door, right now they don’t have a left tackle. Veteran Lowe is terrible.

Or they think Robinson has more talent but is a lazy ass
That would not hold up on a Vrabel team
Lowe will at least give the effort but less talent.
Can Marrone make a difference. Maybe. He still will only be a backup

They've probably already decided to deal with it in the draft and need to see how the position looks after the draft.

Is simmons injury the same as strange’s?

Perhaps Marrone is more optimistic about Wallace, Layden Robinson, Lowe and Jacobs than one might suspect

yes, torn patellar injuries

I see, i keep reading reports that hes going to be ready for the start of the season but that doesnt match up at all with strange’s return time. Possible PUP candidate though

But probable that he'll play this season. So, if the Pats took him, we'd need someone to hold down the spot.

Also if he free-falls through the first round, you *have* to take him at 38, injured or not.
With LTs, it's unlikely he's going to fall.
