Vikings decline Adrian Peterson's option, making him a FA

2004: Patriots are just coming off their second Super Bowl win in three seasons and sign veteran Corey Dillon, who supposedly doesn't have much left in the tank.

2017: Patriots are just coming off their second Super Bowl win in three seasons and sign veteran Adrian Peterson, who supposedly doesn't have much left in the tank?

That's the problem, fantasy people love Peterson....and remind me where he carried Minn on his back? Haven't they been a bad to average team his entire career?

Barry Sanders says hi.

And that HE'd also sign a Pats friendly contract. LOL

People were down on Jamaal Charles for supposedly having too much wear.. Well, AP has significantly MORE wear than Charles..

AP is more than a fantasy star lol.. I'm not really the one that has to argue on behalf of AP and provide you with tons of factoids... its pretty well known how great he is and has been throughout his career, show me something that states otherwise

There have been numerous seasons where AP was the only bright spot on that entire offense and hasn't had the luxury of playing behind a franchise QB..

The Lions were a bad to terrible team with Barry Sanders his entire career... does he suck too?

Coming off the 2003 season, Dillon was 30 years old with 1,865 career carries under his belt, and he was not coming off of a season-ending knee injury.

Peterson is turning 32 in a couple weeks, has 2,418 carries under his belt, missed most of last season with a knee injury and averaged slightly under 2.0 YPC for the brief stretch he did play.

Granted, back in 2003 I had similar reservations about Dillon that I do now about Peterson, but Peterson has a lot more wear on him than Dillon did, and Dillon was pretty close to the end in his own right. Dillon had one great year left in him, but I'm skeptical that Peterson's even got that. He's taken a pounding, and he never became versatile enough to overcome even a moderate dropoff as a pure runner.

Yeah sure, as long as he's down for the veteran minimum and no guarantees through camp.

Whether the injuries have finished him I have no idea but in 2015 he averaged 4.5 yards per carry. He has never averaged below 4.4 when he has had 100+ carries in a season. And he averages 30 or so receptions per year. There's a chance he's done but a really good chance he has another big year left in him.

I'd root for a career-ender every single time he touched the ball.

So that might be fun.

I think on cowherd or some other talking head show.. a report came out that ap has already priced himself out of the free agent market. The price that he is asking he currently has zero interest. That doesnt sound like a player that is self aware or would take a paycut to win.

To me Peterson's suckitude is magnified because he's old, has a ton of miles and a back like him has never been on a belichick pats team since the got away from run first W dillon - a guy who runs primarily out of pro set or single back under center... Also, he's not a guy u can count on for blitz pick up or catching passes...

Pass on AP, we got a decent group of running backs ATM if Blount can stay healthy, we got Lewis and White, plus we are a more pass oriented team. I just don't see AP hitting another 1k yard season again.

No has even mentioned the fact that he puts the ball onto the ground way too much. Which earns ball carriers a one way trip to Bill's doghouse.

If there's a guy we really like in the draft take him but Peterson is an appealing option to replace Blount. If he still has something in the tank (I think he does) it will be a great reward.

Too many questions regarding his character, whether he'd fit in the locker room, how he's going to recover from that injury at 32 years old, and whether having all that time off is going to be a problem.

It doesn't excite me much to think of it...

substantial upgrade over Blount..IMO

If you're willing to compartmentalize off field issues then you might as well draft Mixon. He's reportedly a first round talent who will drop in the draft.
