Neither one is happening ...
The need for OBJ was last year ...
We have greater needs in the 1st round than a receiver.
Really ? Would you mind listing our receivers under contract for next year ? WR is a HUGE need.

I think we should keep flowers some how and stay run heavy. Get back amendola, and use someone like Gordon. Draft a kicker

It doesn't really make sense to gamble on the rookie WR, given BB's struggles there. I don't see a QB in this draft that merits such draft capital. The DL should be addressable via other picks in a deep draft combined with some FA possibilities.

So, if I'm choosing from the above options, I'm choosing OBJ, restructuring his deal, and hoping he learns to behave more calmly.

so NE gets pay some prorated signing bonus?
The $35.5 million in dead money if he’s cut is made up of $16 million in prorated signing bonus, the full $16.75 million guaranteed of his 2019 salary, and the $2.75 million guaranteed of his $14 million salary in 2020. The prorated signing bonus stays with the Giants (and accelerates to the current year if he’s traded before June), while the acquiring team pays the $19.5 million in guaranteed salaries over the next two years.

It's gonna cost way more than a mid round pick to get up to 15-20 in the first round. It will cost a first rounder. No way am I giving up 2 first for Metcalf. I don't even want to do it for Beckham.

Well, he's big and fast. And did I mention his big? Like, really big?

That's a WR??? Looks like a linebacker enhanced with CGI.

There will be plenty in the draft, free agent WR's, and others that can be had with a trade of a lower round pick than 1 ... WR was a huge need this year ... yet we won the Super Bowl.

Really ... we did.

Why do people always use that argument as if it has validity? It's a garbage argument with no validity, at all.

The more I think about it the more I would be willing to trade #32 for Odell if he can be had for it.

Yes, it is only a 1 yr rental but it would allow you to really go all in for next year which is the only year we should be concerned about at this point.
Why would we only be concerned about next year and not care about the future?

Anyone we draft at 32 may very well not have an impact until next year if they hit at all. Do we really want to do that at this point?
We have never drafted primarily for year 1 contributions.

Add Beckham and suddenly your offensive situation becomes a lot different.
So does your locker room.

You can invest more picks and money in defense for next years run without worrying about having enough fire power. I get the feeling Gronk will be coming back.
You just told me picks are worthless because they won’t help this year and the future is irrelevant.

Edelman, Beckham and Gronk is all you need for a playoff run if they are healthy. They will probably get a few odds and ends like Dorsett or Amendola but I'm talking about starters.
You also need RB,C,G,T,DE,DT LB CB S P K

depth is nice but starters and big time players make the clutch plays in the big moments.
So we aren’t the patriots any more and we value “stars” instead of a complete team with solid depth?

They will need the firepower to get by KC next year as I think their D will take a small step back even if they keep Flowers.

Now if the Giants aren't willing to trade the #32 pick for him then i'm not interested. I don't think they should give up any more.
You are almost saying you think the way we win 6 titles is stupid and we should scrap it because WIDE RECEIVERS!!!!!!!

It’s valid in conveying the point that many people overvalue the WR position particularly the difference between reliable role players fitting into a unit and a collection of big name guys.

I get your point that “it and we won any way” isn’t a good argument to let it keep sucking but there is a definite dynamic where people fall in love with WRs and think they are more important than they are.

I'm leaning towards that as well.
This is where I'm at as a fan right or wrong.
Option 1 trade for Odell
Option 2 draft QB of the future if you think he's the guy whether a trade up for Lock or Murray or stay put and wait for Jones,Thorson,Grier,Stidham.
Option 3 trade for Rosen if we think he is that guy.
Option 4 for the heck of it offer a trade for Deandre Hopkins all you can do is ask.
Next move on to Kenny Golladay again all you can do is ask.
If none of that works do a ridiculous about of homework on DK Metcalf trade up for him if he falls into range.
What will the Patriots most likely do?
Let Free agents sign elsewhere make some mid level veteran signings.
Trade number 32 for a 1 next season and 3rd and 5th rounder this year.

It's very valid ... more than one way to skin a cat.
The year we had that awesome passing game with Randy Moss we did not win it.
It's a great tool to have ... but it's not a huge need ... it's a need as are all other units.
Perhaps it's me ... I just tire of the huge need arguments every year.
Like all those huge stretch the field arguments that used to pop up every year.

We did win this year without that game breaker WR ... that's validity - it's history.

On that note, a few months ago, I fully expected this year's big offseason talk to be about LB LB LB...but, oh look, Hightower was there when it mattered, Van Noy has become way more than adequate - dare I say "really good" - Roberts stepped up, and Bentley, who showed promise, is coming back, as is Sams.

WR is a position of need that can and should be upgraded for 2019. Won't be hard to do that, and the Pats won't need to spend a ton of trade capital or $$$$ to upgrade it.
