Tom Brady removed the nfl* decal from his helmet (update: Brady says he was unaware of it)

Florio says league has no comment.

It gets better...sort of.

Here are the list of penalties as it applies to equipment:

Penalties:

  1. For violation of this Section 4 discovered during pregame warm-ups or at other times prior to the game, player will be advised to make appropriate correction; if the violation is not corrected, player will not be permitted to enter the game.
  2. For violation of this Section 4 that is discovered while player is in the game, and which involves the competitive or player safety aspects of the game (e.g., illegal kicking toe of shoe, an adhesive or slippery substance, failure to wear mandatoryequipment), player will be removed from the game until he has complied.
  3. For any other violation of this Section 4 (e.g., wristbands that are not League-approved, towel with a personal message, impermissible headwear under the helmet) that is discovered while the player is in the game, player will be advised to make appropriate correction at the next change of possession; if the violation is not corrected, player will not be permitted to enter the game.
  4. For violation of this Section 4 detected in the bench area: Player and head coach will be asked to remove the objectionable item, properly equip the player, or otherwise correct the violation. The involved player or players will not be permitted to enter the game until the player has complied.
  5. For illegal entry or return of a player suspended under this Section 4: Loss of five yards from succeeding spot and removal until properly equipped after one down. See 3-33.
  6. For repeat violation: Disqualification from game.
Note 1: In addition to the game-day penalties specified above, the Commissioner may subsequently impose independent disciplinary action on the involved player, up to and including suspension from the team’s next game—preseason, regular season, or postseason, whichever is applicable.

Note 2: If a player is suspended for having adhesive or slippery substances on his body, equipment, or uniform, he must remain out of the game for one play, even if there is a team time out, the two-minute warning, or the end of a period.

Note 3: If a player (kicker) is suspended for having an illegal kicking shoe, he must remain out of the game for one play, unless there is a team time out, the two-minute warning, or the end of the period.

So essentially Brady is daring Goodell to suspend him since the rule book states the violation would be no worse than up to one game, which would be an inconsistent punishment. And can you imagine Goodell trying to break that by attempting to suspend him four more games over a sticker? That would unleash a firestorm that would be unreal.

Needless to say, this is going to get interesting.

I hope he continues this in the regular season.

Well the rule book doesn't say he can't place it on upside down. would be just as effective.

True. But the rule book doesn't say the NFL can deny scientific facts, and that the NFL can manufacture evidence, but that didn't stop them. For the foreseeable future Goody has a blank check made possible by article 46 and the last court's decision.

League has no comment? Oh, well, THAT'S going to work out well...jeezus krist, I must presume we are actually dealing with a CORPSE now, instead of a living breathing commissioner. This is beyond ridiculous. I hope none of you believe that this will just quietly go away. Brady is daring Goodell to suspend him MORE games and I believe this supermoron is making plans to that end as I type this post. The league will be holocaustic come opening day. It's DEFCON 5 time.

So we know that Kaepernick decide not to stand for the national anthem, but do we know if he removed the decal from his helmet?

Pretty sure the US Courts said Goodell can use article 46 to do anything he likes.

And sad thing is Goodell would have a better, and more logical, case for suspending you for wearing clothes that harm the image of the NFL than for Deflategate.

No. They said when it came to things that fall into his jurisdiction. Wearing a shirt while not at an NFL function isn't covered by the rules of conduct no matter how much Goodell might wish it.

Otherwise, Goodell would have to suspend Kaepernick for the Castro shirt he wore..

So we know that Kaepernick decide not to stand for the national anthem, but do we know if he removed the decal from his helmet?

Of course he didn't. Peyton Manning's wife ordered a decal for Peytie's forehead and some Frisco sleazeball snuck into the 49ers lockeroom and sliced the decal off Kaep's helmet with a razor blade. Brady , however, has been VIDEOTAPED removing the NFL decal from HIS helmet while laughing maniacally at a stolen autographed by Peytie photo of Der Scumissioner pinned on a dartboard, according to ace reporter and courageous cancer survivor, Mort Shytbag. Looks bad for Tom but we'll just have to wait until the coming court decision is announced...

So, who all knew about this other than Tom?

Did BB know and condone it? The NFL* would LOVE to find something to punish BB for.

What if all the Patriots, Saints, a couple more teams removed their NFL sticker?

Where are you people reading that Florio claimed that the league declined to comment?

Is that what you get from his sentence reading "PFT has requested comment from the league?" (for an article posted at 9pm)

Let's give the NFL morons a couple/few days to enjoy their boners first. Thinking the NFL wouldn't comment...c'mon. Do people think they'll run for cover out of embarrassment or something? That they're afraid of the great and powerful Brady, who they just humiliated, lied about, and assassinated his character for the past 18+ months?

They'll simply fine him and force him to replace it on his helmet, as I doubt they'd want to seem over the top threatening additional suspension, but make no mistake--they'll certainly enjoy the fact that he'll come off as a villainous, pouty baby to some of the public.

As far as Florio's theory on Brady using the scissors to remove the decal, (rather than the cleat cleaning, as reported) it's an interesting one, and could help to explain why he was suddenly missing for the next couple of practices. If I recall correctly, it was stated by some of the beat reporters that it was not due to injury, so there was some uncertainty as to why someone who never misses practice would suddenly be gone.

....Or, Florio could be totally wrong. I doubt we'll ever find out, and aside from some normal curiosity, I don't think it matters one bit. One thing's for sure, he's too much of a competitor to miss games and put the team in a bad position over making his own selfish statement though, so I doubt we need to concern ourselves too much one way or the other.

Its a decal.. fingernails may suffice.

Much ado about nothing, but then again the allegations perpetuated by Mort were much ado about nothing..

"Brass Balls Brady"...

Outstanding move if one wants to keep Goodwill attention on oneself.

Goodell would have to run to CVS and buy a case of metamucil...

Meanwhile Goodell has dispatched his head henchman, Kensil, to roam the sidelines of Patriots games, to keep a close watch on these nefarious deeds.. .
