Thoughts on DeVante Parker

Scorecard
0 catches for Parker, Henry, Smith
Honestly I don't know why Parker is the one getting the hate.

How many games did it take LaFell to become productive in 2014... and that is with Brady throwing to him. And Parker really has much more competition considering how Aghlor and Meyers are playing... and everyone complaining how Bourne needs more playing time.

Its embarrassing how little Henry and Smith are contributing considering how much they are getting paid, that they are in their 2nd year here, and there are no TEs getting time over them.

I said this after last week's game. I haven't seen anything out of Parker to show he deserves to play as much as he does.

The question is how long do we give parker to get it before moving on and allowing the wr’s who are currently better to get the majority of opportunities? 4 weeks? 6 weeks?

My concern with parker is theres just no signs of him right now having movement to the upside. With agholor last year, he was getting open, he looked good in the open field, heck he even had a great game right off the bat against miami. It was pretty clear that his numbers were hampered by having a rookie qb who was not throwing downfield as much and agholor ‘s vertical abilities is a big part of his game. You could see room to the upside with him.

With parker, what have we SEEN that gives you hope? He doesn’t get seperation. The few 50-50 balls he has barely fought for. Yes he was grabbed on the int last week but if he actually utilizes his physicality against a smaller opponent and gets some lift while his jersey is being tugged, much better chance the flag gets thrown. And the 3rd down back shoulder pass yesterday, that was just a piss poor effort.

My hope is he gets 2 more games to at least look decent or get him off the field. Its going to eventually cost us games if hes still this ineffective and bourne/eventually thornton are missing opportunities.

Parker has always been a solid NFL receiver. He's not a star, and it was a mistake for anyone to think of him as a star. But he is solid. The Pats got him for very little and he's a huge improvement on Harry.
Is he?
Parker on pace for 8.5 catches and 76.5 yds this season.
Harry managed 12 for 188 yds last season before Bill traded him for 2 Chicago deep dish pies.
-----------------------
More concerning than Parker's specific skill set is the fact that BB and his consultants believe their QB needs a "jump ball specialist'
For 19 years, BB valued space creators.
Now.......... jump-ballers and non jump-ballers (Agholor) repurposed to be jump-ballers

Parker was never a true #1 receiver. He has had his moments, but if he were a true#1, Miami would have kept him. He is what he is a more experienced and somewhat faster version of NKeal Harry.
I think Bourne should be playing ahead of him.

I can not think of too many cases where a WR in the league for 7-8 years, traded to a new team and suddenly elevates his level of play to pro bowl caliber.

Ok let's not Bench Devante Parker just yet we had two other WR's with almost 100yds a piece. Though Parker's numbers stink he's obviously doing his job. Sometimes it's the little things that don't show up on the score board. If Meyers is looking this good and Agholor is playing solid Parker's time will come. Thornton is coming back soon our WR's won't be the problem.

I’ve felt he should be a red zone target but in our normal offence he’s our #4. He doesn’t separate and he shouldn’t be getting more snaps than Agholor and Bourne.

I don't think you need to "move on", but maybe give Bourne more snaps and give Parker the number of snaps Bourne got last game. That way, he can still earn his way back into the main rotation the way Bourne is doing (even if the coaches refuse to put him back).

They haven't successfully thrown deep this year but I think they eventually will. Mac has left it short several times now, but it's not because he physically can't throw it deeper, it's like he's afraid of overthrowing the receiver. He's got the weapons, he's gotta lead them more and let them go get it.

At first I thought you meant he hasn't successfully thrown deep to Parker ... and then you said "the weapons" and "them".

You caught weeks 1 & 2, right? Deep shot to Bourne against Miami. Deep shot to Agholor against Pittsburgh for TD. 20+ yard over-the-shoulder fade to Meyers.

Mac has hit some deep shots this season; he's certainly missed some, too.

Oh yeah, i probably worded that poor but hed still be usable in certain situations especially red zone. Just at a reduced snap rate with the potential to earn more snaps

"Dangerous" ?
Seriously?
If Gunner didn't cough up the ball at his own 10, the potentially "dangerous" NE offense was likely on its way to amassing 10 pts for the game and 17 points combined in two games

Scorecard
0 catches for Parker, Henry, Smith

Is this known as "under the radar sneaky dangerous"?

All I know is Fatt Matt should be sending Gunner a nice gift basket to reciprocate for his 2nd half generosity.
If that gift fumble didn't happen, this board would be lighting up Fat Matt for the offense's impotency and eviscerating QB coach Judge for the Mac Jones year 2 regression. And daggers would be out for Corky
I take the point, and forget the word dangerous. And the offense has been pitiful so far. But I don't think it's impossible to envision where this offense COULD go, all of which will of course will be dependent on better QB play.

I think the line can better than fine. They have a nice 1-2 punch at RB. Huge investment at TE which has 100% been disappointing (and I'm not that hopeful about Smith tbh), but Henry is solid+. As always, the WRs are the question, but between what we saw with Agholor, what we know Bourne can bring, the flashes from Thornton, and expected decent contributions from Meyers and Parker, it's a group you can win with.

Yes, he is.

Last three seasons: averaged 58 receptions for 837 yards and 5 td. He's not an all-pro, but even with some super shaky QB play on his team, those are solid numbers.

He's not remotely as good as Waddle or Tyreek Hill, so Miami could easily afford to trade him. He's not a GREAT receiver, but he's always been solid yes.

Yes, he's tried to force it to him when doubled and other guys are open.

What Patricia should do is get Mac and Parker in a room with film of that 2019 Phins-Pats game when Fitzpatrick and Parker carved up Gilmore all game. Invite Fitzpatrick, maybe he'll come too. Figure out how to recreate that, cause it was unstoppable and was mostly 15 yard passes.
That's my confusion, I don't quite understand the usage/targeting of Parker as a deep threat so much. Seems like he'd be much better as an intermediate target where his ability to use his frame is easier. It feels like they're still experimenting.

That explains a lot.

Between the TEs not contributing and Parker playing 2nd most WR snaps and contributing nothing, while Bourne rides the Pine... not wonder our offense sucks.
I don't get what is going on with Bourne. He makes plays when he's out there but they don't want to put him out there. The coaching staff needs to put their delicate egos aside and get Bourne some snaps.

Yeah, similar to the quick slants with gordon when he was here.

At least he played more than two snaps so that's step in the right direction.

1. I do wonder how much of Parker's poor showings are how he was covered. He seems to be drawing the top corners and often dealing with safety help. Will how he is defended by other teams change sometime soon due to his low production?

2. Is Parker a good blocker? I don't understand playing him that many snaps unless he is contributing in non obvious ways like blocking.

3. On the bright side, his snap count has decreased from week 1 to week 2. This will probably continue until he produces, so it's trending in the way that most people want.
