To be honest I would take any of those guys outside of Rosen over Barkely. I think anyone of those other guys would be an upgrade over what they had at the time.
They were invested at QB, but they needed to get help around the corpse of Eli. Nelson is a guard, not a tackle, or taking him would have made sense. There's no way you take McGlinchey over Barkley there. The rest were all QBs and defensive players. Look at the round, and you see a real lack of top end offensive weapons.

There's nobody there worth taking over Barkley, because Eli was still the Giants' starting QB. That was the problem for the Giants in that draft. The Giants held on to a mediocre QB, who'd had 2 great playoff runs, for years longer than they should have, and that's having ramifications to this day.

While falling asleep is not ideal it is nowhere near as bad as the red flags Bill ignored with Easley. He threatened to quit the team multiple times at UF, had a bunch of injuries from dog bites he never disclosed to the team before he showed up, and apparently was apart of one of the most unruly classes of all time at Florida (and for that school that is saying something). Apparently Bill sided with Mike "You'd be an idiot to draft Metcalf over K'Neal Harry" Lombardi over the team scouts when he took Easley.

NFC Exec on DT Dominique Easley: "He's a turd."

Belichick Deserves Blame for Easley. That's Okay.

Lombardi should never be allowed anywhere near this stadium ever again... he was a Grima Wormtongue in Belichick's ear, giving him absolutely ****ing terrible advice

His arrogance on the whole "You'd be an idiot to draft Metcalf over K'Neal Harry" before the draft his laughable. Not only was he wrong about the two players but he couldn't even get the name right of the guy he was pounding the table for. He drafted a whole bunch of busts in his early Cleveland days and was a big part of drafting JaMarcus Russell, a guy whose own college coaches said don't take him. I always wondered how this guy lasted so long in the NFL.

I think if anything haunts Belichick, it is the
Endless list of 2nd round DB busts.

Joequin Williams - 2019
Duke Dawson - 2018
Cyrus Jones - 2016
Jordan Richards - 2015
Tavon Wilson - 2012
Ras-I Dowling - 2011
Darius Butler - 2009
Terrence Wheatley - 2008

Pat Chung was the best return we got for a 2nd round DB in 2009, but he was better on his 2nd & 3rd time with the Pats than he was early in his career.

Belichick has done far better with undrafted DB’s than he has drafting them in the 2nd round

Lombardi would make most of the homer posters here seem objective.

Wow. Going by the theory that BB the GM makes only wrong choices (then BB the coach makes them worse,) Stidham must be AMAZING, since Mac looks like the real deal right out da gate, and Stidham must be better... can't believe none of you are clamoring for him yet, come to think of it.

Completely blow up whatever crappy CB and WR evaluation system is used for Patriot drafts. Maybe go back to the old Steve Belichick scouting manual .

I actually think JJ Williams is a worse pick. We needed a WR. Obviously he's been a bust so far but pre-draft he was a consensus second round pick ( I had a second on him) so I get it at 32. Bill definitely trusted Lombardi here. I actually don't mind the pick bc we kind of went away from the same old, same old. Took a chance. Obviously didn't work out but I liked the fact that we took a chance. I thought Deebo was the perfect Pat, others really like Terry & AJ. It didn't work out put we have to keep trying to draft a stud and not be shy.

I didn't think we needed Williams. Honestly I'm on record of saying neither would have been my pick but I got the Harry pick more. I had lots of other prospects in front of them / Williams but again I get where Bill is coming from here even though I don't agree. We clearly went H/W/S (Height Weight Speed) in this draft early on and missed by a mile.

Bad instincts and evals but also some **** luck. Like the 3rd round in 2017, you could have thrown a rock and hit a prospect but we took arguably the worst prospects of that round.

One thing I'm getting tired of when it comes to picks is the usage. Uche and Wino are probably the best examples but there have been others in the past. Top 64-100 picks and Uche has played a season high 33 snaps a believe. These are two speed rushers you have to let loose to really see and feel a difference imo. You have to be using these guys more, a better plan when you have legit full-time starters right beside them.

Draft game is rough. We all miss, a lot but we absolutely have to be better going forward. We need a home run, no more singles or doubles.

Taysom Hill is about 100 career yards receiving away from Harry. He’ll pass him. Lol

If Jonnu doesn’t improve he’s going to take that title from Harry based on his contract alone.

Jonnu has had to be a pass blocker because the OL, especially at both tackle positions, is such a mess. If Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn could a) get and stay on the field, and b) do what we know they are capable of, Jonnu Smith would be great.

This is frustrating for everybody, but overall, we shouldn't dump on guys who are compensating for players who are injured or whatever. So far we're watching a good defense that is keeping the offense in games. (The Pats have lost by 1, by 2 , and in OT.) The offensive line is by far the biggest weakness on this team. When the two tight ends have to focus on edge rushers on every snap because the starting tackles aren't available or doing their jobs, so many options and mismatches are taken out of the playbook.

BTW, it's absolutely irresponsible for any of these linemen to be unvaccinated against a virus. There are no masks, there is no social distancing possible, They are a freakin' menace.

I have zero tolerance for the completely avoidable Covid-19 games missed. If you want to be a professional (name of sport here) player, get vaccinated or go home. There is absolutely no reason why an elite athlete in his 20s or 30s is unvaccinated. If they have some unintelligible problem protecting themselves, their teammates, their coaches, their families, their community, then they can go sell crap on e-Bay for a living or something that involves having no one for whom to be responsible.

You want Jonnu Smith to fulfill his potential? Start with the offensive line.

The myopia of not playing well and losing sets in, while these were draft failures no team is completely successful in the draft... every team has hits and misses, meanwhile the last two years have shown significant improvement. Some of the aforementioned names take place in the way back machine.

They are 2-4, and everybody is frustrated, and I agree that the draft is not the place to look for answers. If they were getting blown out and not playing hard for 60 minutes or longer, I'd be demoralized. But these close losses (by 1, by 2, and in OT with the ball first) are a sign of a tough group in need of a Break (the ball caroming through instead of left on the missed FG against TB), or a couple of times when they don't turn over the ball.

In my earlier post, I go off on the OL which is the root of all the problems on this team - sustaining drives, maximal use of the new TEs, blocked punt, some of the turnovers, Mac able to go downfield more, etc.. The problems caused by a poor offensive line are just endless. I'm hoping Shaq Mason and Isaiah Wynn have good games against the Jets. If we could just get five straight games where the OL settles in and gives the backs some daylight, frees Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry to do their thing, and Mac some time......

It starts with that NY Cropdusters at home.

I don't see Harry here much longer.

He sucks.
Harry's only making $2.75M but still represents more than double that against the cap. He's here for the season.

I'm hopeful that being in the WR room with Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor helps him develop. Especially Bourne. He's a tremendous leader and straight shooter. Harry really never had a wideout with Bourne's maturity and experience to work with. Edelman was a slot guy with so many physical ailments to attend to that he couldn't really take Harry under his wing.

After this season, Harry will only represent $2.0M in dead cap money and if he hasn't taken a big step forward, he's done.

Amazing he has leveraged a subpar career as a personnel guy into a career as a subpar football writer/podcaster. Some people just fall upwards through life.

He's useless. Having him take up a roster spot is a waste.

You can’t polish a turd into a diamond. He just doesn’t have it upstairs which just compounds his athletic shortcomings, relative to the position.

Harry made a great catch yesterday and ;last year in the Seattle game he looked excellent. He is strong as hell. He has flashed some potential. I think if they give him until the end of this season to produce it would not be the worst idea.
Still hoping for Anquin Boldin v2
