The Lions have agreed to terms with quarterback Matthew Stafford

Actually, Stafford has a lot of pressure on him.

You really cannot blame him for getting paid this much.

The NFL has made this bed.
Yep, and they got to fix it. every year 5-6 rookies become the highest paid players at their position without ever playing a down.

It's sick.

Stafford, Ryan, Russell. They each make more than Tom Brady and Peyton Manning?

Something is wrong.

If this signing isn't a cry for some sort of rookie system to be implemented into the next cba, i don't know what is! It kills me that a kid who hasn't even stepped onto the field will make more money than proven vets. PLUS put a huge dent in Detroits salary cap which will make it more difficult for them to put together a consistent winner. Getting picks 1-7 in the draft is more a penalty now than what its supposed to be(helping a sucky team get better). Its ridiculous.

I agree, but, this the NFL's fault. Not the rookies fault.

I don't get the hate.

People are misfiring on their judgements.

Stupid.

If you were Stafford you would be VERY happy.

Just admit it.

100% agree.

NFL's fault by design.

Totally agree that they need to fix the problem.

I still believe in the salary cap too.

They NEED to have one.

The NFL needs to do something about these rookie contracts. They are not good for the league.

I actually hope he's an epic bust. It would give me the giggles about them not offering trades for Cassel. $74 Million with $41.7 million guaranteed? Let them choke on it.

He will most likely be one. Anyone who has followed SEC football knows how completely overrated Stafford is. Sanchez blows him away. Stafford, while having all the physical gifts, does not have a brain to back it up. He frequently throws the ball into double and triple coverage which either ends up in an INT or a pick six. Much of Stafford's success at Georgia came when he was bailed out by either his WRs or his RB (Moreno, who was the real star of that offense). If you guys want an idea of how overrated Stafford is, just watch the Florida/Georgia game from this past season.

Matt Cassel under the wing of TB & BB for several years, proven he can handle playing in the NFL > than the $$$ given to Stafford and the draft picks given up for Cutler. I hope Stafford can deliver for the Lions and their fans, but in the end I think Cassel will make them all wish they had.....

Man oh man. I know a lot of Pats fans aren't fond of Roger Goodell, but I really like his idea of standardized contracts for rookies. $42 million for a guy who's never taken a pro snap...
