The 2017 NFL Draft, Day One Game-Day Thread

JG is 10x more ready than the guys drafted tonight. He demonstrated in live regular season action that he's a playa, and he's also been around the best coaches and mentor for 3 years and has 2 rings. He can definitely step in tomorrow and lead, he's not a question mark like the draftees. NE just didn't have him on the trading block, as reported by Schefter, which is hard for us to believe but it was true. BB wants him on the team this year, he likes the luxury of having a proven starter as his backup QB.

If BB wasn't willing to even listen to offers, it suggests that BB doesn't trust Brissett to start.

I think brady can play well the next 3 years. I know it sounds crazy but i think he can which makes me wonder why jimmy wasn't dealt.

If you're 6'2" and you can't run, he's not 'tall enough'. Name me the 6'2" Pocket QB who's successful in the NFL not named Drew Brees, who is decently mobile even in his advanced age. I'll wait.

Joe Montana was drafted in 1979, and the West Coast Offense was still a new thing. You may as well compare him to the leather helmet QBs.

His career comp % in college is exactly 60%. 61% as a starter. That's not 'very accurate'. Mitch Trubisky, who sucks, completed 68% this year. He is good under pressure, and he's a smart kid with good footwork, but he panics after his second read, which is fine for a backup, but that's not franchise QB stuff.

Hes mobile man, Hes not a statue. He can hurt you with his legs. and he can throw on the run. His arm can still get stronger anyway. Btw Drew Brees is short as hell and hes not mobile at all

Tape trumps completion percemtage, check out tom brady

I know there wasn't much of a chance landing Sherman to begin with, wonder what the odds are at now come day two.

True but only if brady gets injured. Brady for the most part since 2008 has been able to stay healthy and play in these football games.

Floats the ball too much for my liking. I think he's a solid backup but I don't think he's a starter you'd want to rely on.

Maybe deep down the field. I did a google search and gruden loves him. That holds water

JG is cheap insurance for the GOAT.

stop whining
I'm chastising. You're whining. So i need to chastise you, apparently.

Where are all the idiots talking about all the "leverage" the pats had and all the picks for mr 5 quarters we'd get?

3rd round comp. Or franchise him and get stuck with him for a ridiculous salary for one year.

I don't get the hate on this board for jimmy G. He won't be this and he won't be that. How the hell you know?! Brady will be our QB but if loyko was right about what they offered for jimmy G then i don't get why he
wasn't traded.
There is really much more Jimmy love than hate. I have seen multiple posts putting him in the hall of fame. Rodgers this, Young that.
Jimmy is a solid QB. If he is willing to be a backup until Brady is done, I hope he stays with the Pats. I just don't think he will be as good as or better than Brady.
You are right that I don't know for sure, but I would assign a high level of confidence to the fact that Jimmy won't be the GOAT.
There have been several posts about dumping Brady and keeping Jimmy.
I believe that would be a bad move by BB.

or trade him after the draft when there's time for the buyer to negotiate an extension with him.

Loyko said they got offered a first and a second. You don't believe him?

Tape trumps completion percentage. Fact. Drew Brees has a rocket arm (still and did in college) and was plenty mobile until the last couple of years. Put on some Purdue tape and tell me he wasn't mobile. And he's an inch shorter than Peterman.

Nathan Peterman's tape does not match up to the hype you're trying to give him. Tom Brady. Lol.

(Brady played in a 2 back offense 20 years ago, by the way)

BB knows he has a great chance for next year. Doesn't want it ruined by having Brady go down and an unreliable backup. Still think there's a good chance he trades JG wants he gets a look at Brissett and how he's developed. The fact that Cleveland hasn't taken a QB yet sort of supports that notion.

Also, and I can't stress this enough, when Schefter said that the Pats weren't trading JG, he said he'd still be a Pat this summer. Why "this summer"? Why not next season? We know BB isn't overly bothered about this draft and we know Cleveland aren't a Jimmy Garropolo away and that they've stockpiled picks. I could see a JG trade to Cleveland in the summer if BB is comfortable with Brissett as a backup.

Or they really do see JG as Brady's successor. QBs are everything in the NFL after all.

He said he's the most pro ready and I agree with that. I could see him being a game manger for a team but I don't see anyone banking on him as a franchise guy.

There are so many possible reasons.

If JG stays BB values him as insurance. Insurance against a Brady injury. Insurance against a Brady decline. etc...

If he is traded, whether that's now or during the preseason, I think that says a lot about Brissette.

Anyways I don't care either way because the Pats don't necessarily need those picks because they are stacked as it is right now.

Jon Gruden disagrees with you. By the way Peterman has picked up multiple offensive systems, successfully, and beat clemson this year. Destroyed them
