Re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

I watched the game this morning. The Bengals are really, really, really bad.

Re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

I find it funny that people still put any stock in pre-season.
I have watched football for over 35 years, and trust me it doesn't mean jack!
Heck even the first few games of the regular season don't tell you much either.

The Jets offense was God awful at times the last 2 seasons, and they still got to the AFC Championship. I hate the Jets with a passion, but if the Pats fans here are going to look at a few pre-season games and say the Jets are going to suck either have the homer glasses on, or don't really know much about football.

I agree. Dalton until his last drive couldn't hit the side of a barn even if he was standing two feet away from it. It was shocking how off he was. I think he is so bad that the Bengals might have to put in a bid for Pryor today in the supplimental draft.

And he wasn't the only one. There were probably six dropped passes in the first half by Bengals receivers.

They are my leading candidate for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

There are things you can pull out of preseason games, but overall you are right. Preseason games are pretty meaningless in evalution. You can see some though like when a team/player exceptionally sucks or excells, but even then there is no guarantee that it will continue into the regular season.

Agreed. I watched The Sanchize pre-season 2010 and the offense was awful, yet that team made the playoffs, beat Peyton Manning even with the loose neck bolt and worst of all beat the Patriots decisively when it counted most.

But unlike you, I don't learn the lesson and get wicked psyched about pre-season performances year after year. Go figure.

Re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

I've been watching since the days of Jim Nance, and I'd agree that the wins and loses in pre season mean little, in fact may be a contra indications of what will actually happen in season.

However, execution of plays, coordination of units, and tendencies (giving the ball too Ridley a lot) to see where he fits in the rotation) are key things to watch for, and when they go well, are fodder for estimating what will happen, and where the problem areas are.

It's hard not to be excited by the team + draft + FA moves + pre season. What happens is based on that, but not dictated only by those things - obviously.

If I might add, try and keep in mind that us older fans were once more inexperienced then we are now, more prone to over reacting with excitement for instance. We all cheer for the same team, that's the prime thing - not scoring easy points off our brethren.

and yes, the Jets suck, all the way from Emerson Boozer on up.

Horrible, why bother posting, you are as about as fair and objective as Peter King.

This is the wrong thread for objectivity about the Green Beans. Check that. Objectively, they still suck.

Strange fom that angle he doesn't appear to have control. Guess it's preseason for the officials too.

Re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

Admittedly that was a heads-up play by Sanchez to recognize the single coverage, and a quality throw to a spot where the defender had no chance of making a play and Burress was the only player that had a chance to catch the ball.

Now having said what I just said, I need to go vomit, take a shower, and de-louse myself.

Because it doesn't matter, the Jets still suck.

Burress, as he is want to do, pushed off on the defender as he made his cut. Got away with it. Nice throw in the rain, average catch.

I think maybe you are missing the intent of this thread. The title should be a give-away but to expand, this is just a place to post jets suckdom in all forms including any far fetched, unreasonable or even entirely made up assessments. This is because jet suckdom is pervasive. It defies all reason and thwarts all attempts to remove it. It would exist even were the jets to succeed at something, which they can't (reference Jets Suckdom, paradox and oxymoron). Therefore, preseason play an integral part of and contributor to jet suckdom for the purposes of this thread.

It is so pervasive it would exist even if the JEST didn't.

They did review it, but all the TV angles you couldn't see the ball when he went to the ground. He might not have had control of the ball, but his back was to the camera.

I know, I was watching. Couldn't miss the push-off on all the replays either.

As much as it was a push off, Randy Moss got away with that all the time when he was here. Most WR get away with it. Offensive pass intereference is called pretty rarely.

Very well said, sir. I might add: I can think of few things sucking more than sitting in a downpour and watching the Green Beans play an exhibition game against the worst team in the NFL. Also, they not only played the worst team in the league, but the Bengals were led by a ROOKIE QUARTERBACK who has NEVER PLAYED IN THE RAIN. And yet, Green Beans fans are all aflutter over this wonderful bounce back from a sucky performance against Houston. They suck.

Jerricho Cotchery: Cotchery shows no signs of back injury
Jerricho Cotchery - WR - PIT - Aug. 18 - 10:25 pm et

Jerricho Cotchery caught two passes for 49 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles in the Steelers' second preseason game.
Cotchery showed no ill-effects from offseason back surgery. He functioned as Byron Leftwich's top receiver while Antonio Brown worked with Ben Roethlisberger in three-wide sets. The Steelers have more depth at the position than ever this year. Aug. 18 - 10:25 pm et

At least the Jets have 37 year-old Derrick Mason in his place.

New York Jets: 12 Winners and Losers from Preseason Week 2 | Bleacher Report
Mason is a loser for simply missing out on the fun, as a knee injury kept him out of the game. After posting three catches for 21 yards in the Jets preseason opener, Mason watched from the sidelines as everyone from Plaxico Burress to Santonio Holmes to Dustin Keller got involved in the aggressive passing attack.

With the strong outings of Burress and Keller, not to mention the Jets' preexisting run-first emphasis, it's uncertain if there will be enough targets to go around for Mason. His role as the new slot receiver (replacing the departed Jerricho Cotchery) is a bit of a departure for the career possession receiver, who is used to playing in two WR sets.

Despite the uncertainty of his role, Mason has had high spirits since entering training camp, even jumping on Coach Ryan's "Super Bowl or Bust" bandwagon. If his knee injury turns out to be minor, he will have a few more preseason games to situate his role among the other members of the Jets' passing game. At age 37, however, it is hard to expect a lot from Mason in a brand new system, with very little time to catch-up.
