Tebow NFL QB stats vs. Zolak = NO comparison

This thread is not a debate about Tebow's abilities to play in the NFL.
This is strictly a Let's make fun of a pompous blowhard in the media who played a worse NFL QB *BY EVERY STATISTICAL MEASURE* than Tim Tebow as he decries Tebow's presence on the Patriot roster exercise.
Done for fun.

If you don't like Zolak as a commentator or analyst, that's fine; you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

But if you're insinuating that the only people who should be allowed to critique NFL players are those that had better careers, then this and every other website that has anything to do with the game of football are all going to become ghost towns.

I think there's a world of difference between armchair coaches like us critiquing players, and a former 8 year NFL QB complaining about how badly a guy sucks at QB, when the guy he is complaining about put up better numbers.

In short, if Zolak says that Tebow sucks, then he is indicting his own 8 years spent in the NFL as well as the teams who kept handing him paychecks.

Funny thread. Silly and meaningless, but funny.

You can't compare a back-up, mop-up quarterback with someone who was at the helm for most of the year. How many times was Zolak even allowed to throw down the field?

Also, don't compare QBs from different eras. When Matt Stafford can throw up 5,000 yards and you've got a handful of QBs in striking distance, with two passing, Marino's mark, it tells you something.

All that said, yeah, the pontificating meathead commentators should lay off Tebow.

And what would be wrong with that? Maybe he's quite self-aware. If he believes he wasn't good (or even sucked) does that mean he can talk badly about Tebow?

Fine, take us out of it.

Are you saying that the only people qualified to professionally make a living (whether it be on the radio, television, web, or a combination) that involves critiquing an NFL player are those that played professional football at a very high level (e.g., All Pros)?

Are you implying that anybody that does not meet those standards that criticizes a football player - any football player - is doing so for one reason and one reason only, because they were not able to become an All Pro or Hall of Famer (i.e., 'their own shortcomings)?

I'd give him some props if he went on air and said the following:

"You know what? I SUCKED as an NFL QB, and I managed to do it for 8 whole years while collecting nice checks. That said, while Tebow has shown that he's a better QB than I ever was, he still sucks as a QB and shouldn't be on a roster."

I'm fine with Zolak offering up opinion on any player but no player, NO player is on the receiving end of such intensely condescending, belittling, personal 'this boy is a joke and don't belong in the league' commentary from Zolak than Tim Tebow.

With Zo's venom as a backdrop, the irony of his own horrific NFL stats vis-a-vis Tebow too delicious to pass up.

As I said earlier, if Zo feels this strongly about Tebow's game he must be writhing on the floor with self loathing from the stench of his own game.

so you and OP are throwing a hissy fit because Zo is not prefacing his statement about how he, in your opinion, doesn't measure up to Tebow as a qb?

If everyone had to broadcast such disclaimers before voicing their opinion then it would be awfully cumbersome.

he might or he might not but that's very much irrelevant to the veracity of his analysis of Tebow's quarterbacking skills.

People seem to be having a hard time grasping why Zolak's point sucks. It's not that he doesn't have a right to critique, it's that his own NFL career disproves his point.

Let's say that Scott Zolak said, "Tim Tebow isn't tall enough to ride that ride."

Now consider the following facts:

1) Scott Zolak was tall enough to ride that ride.

2) Tim Tebow is taller than Scott Zolak.

Therefore, Zolak's point is silly.

His own NFL career does not disprove his point. he rode the pine for 8 years which pretty much demonstrated that he couldn't play in this league. and this is assuming for the sake of argument that Zolak is a worse QB than Tebow which is hardly definitive.

Guess that explains 8 years of stats and collecting checks ?
And how many times did he play well?
I didn't say he couldn't hold a clipboard or play poorly.

So his 8 years of playing in the NFL proved that he couldn't play in the NFL.

bottom line. How many people do you think were joining message boards (no message boards at the time) or following around Zolak at the time? The point isn't Tebow's bad play. It's the fact that people like him and want him to play no matter how crappy he is.k

Doe's anyone really think that people were hoping for Zolak (outside of his family)?

Tebow being better than Zolak shouldn't be news to anyone, including Zolak. Then again, we just had the Patriots QB3 outplay the team's QB2 last night, yet Patriots fans here are still calling for Tebow's head while saying nothing about Mallett.

You are joking right?

yes, his 8 years of being an inconsequential backup proved he couldn't play in this league. I'm guessing my interpretation of the word play is close to Zolak's usage.

Which is why it really is comical to read posts that claim this isn't a passing league.

Riiiight.

Yeah, Tebow looked so good throwing an off kilter pass that Sims made a great catch on, then got whiffed on a tackle by two or three future cuts on his way to the end zone. Even better on the throw to the end zone when no one was expecting it, again against 3rd stringers. Look past the numbers. Tebow hasn't outplayed Mallett at any time this preseason.
