Player Signing TE Hunter Henry signs 2 year extension

really, it appears to be a fair market deal for Henry as well as team friendly.

HH was pretty much guaranteed $7m this year. he was not going to be cut, obviously.
If he went into free agency next year, what would his market have been, going into his age 33 years. (Dec 7)
is a team giving HH 1 year at $13m? Guaranteed? 2 years at $20m with $13m of it guaranteed?
I kind of doubt that.
does he even want to play another 3 years? or does he prefer year to year.
it would seem he is where he wants to play, has about $20m available if he is healthy, and he is a team leader/captain. prob something will be available to him in the area post career if he wants that.
good deal for both sides

I am here because I wanted some news on the Patriots training camp day by day, and there was none coming in on the other site. Since every thread became a pissing match between you and (name any poster here) that forum has had minimal conversations. Thanks for the "Kind" welcome, I see you make friends fast everywhere you post!
look at it this way
now you can talk about the Jets all you want without me objecting

Yes that is his market. That is why he signed the deal. 2 years 16 mill 14.5 guaranteed and potential to earn 20 with incentives.

if Raridon plays well enough to force a 50/50 split in snaps with Henry, that's a best case scenario

That won't happen this season. TE has always been a difficult position to learn in MacDaniels system,

Exactly and instead of receiving the money per game, the player is paid up front in 1 lump sum since it is signing bonus. That much money invested now in this market must be a pretty penny.
Good call out that I did not mention, yeah.

Its a win - win for both sides.

Ive read that Henry and wife love living in NE and they are very happy there. And, they have children to consider. Is pulling up stakes and moving really worth it for just for a couple million more? Nah not really.

You are proposing that 7 million of the 14 mill guaranteed is a rouse to guarantee this years money the agent can fool no one by announcing a larger number.

If that is the case, then he just added 2 years to his contract with only a 7 mill guarantee. That is not his market, not close.

You really think Henry is signing for 7 mill of new guarantees?

The numbers are in, it's exactly what I said the whole time... $7M of guaranteed salary in 2026, only $7M of new guaranteed money. Not sure why you were so adamant it would never happen - it happens all the time and it happened here.

Also worth noting on the above - this is an extremely team friendly extension by Hunter Henry, I have no doubt he would have made a good bit more money elsewhere if he just played out his contract this year. Good sign when you start having good players take less money to play here/stay here. It's the Drake Maye/Mike Vrabel effect.

I’m waiting on a response here.
Should be interesting

Put his locker next to Gonzo’s.

I agree with you. Win win for our 3rd leading TE of all time (a distant third, but still) and the team as I do think he's got 2 years left in him and while it's been a challenge to get a great two-TE combo since Hernandez/Gronk, keeping him in the fold will be a huge help to whatever younger player we get as he transitions to the end of his career.

I think sometimes BB would offer these type of extension guarantees to veteran players who are good role models for others, showing that the team values their leadership, and kindof get the sense that Vrabel/Wolf are doing the same thing here.

It's one less position we need to worry about, even as we prepare for his eventual retirement.

He's pretty good, I don't want him gone.
IPDGAS where he falls in the annum, he's good enough to make a difference.

JMO, and I'm nobody.

I pretty much agreed with you from the jump.
I think the only area we disagree is HH's value/potential deal if he played out the year and went into free agency.
I believe I am a bit lower than you on his value/offers.

I also agree this is a great deal for both sides

different era's make it hard to compare counting stats
Yes, my first reaction to @Ross12 was asking “adjusted for era?”

Stats don’t adequately express impact in the game. It might be better to look at how Hunter Henry compares to his peers at TE now, and compare that to how past TEs like Russ Francis compared to other TEs in the league at the time they were playing. My personal opinion is that Hunter Henry would not be considered a top three TE across the NFL while Coates, Francis and of course Gronk definitely would be, and Grahammand Watson would probably stack up against their peers more strongly than Henry.

If we're talking about pass catching, he's fourth. Neither Daniel Graham nor Ben Watson had nearly as many receptions as HH.
For their day I think they were more impactful. Just counting receptions doesn’t reflect how the game and the role have evolved.
