Yes or no, we dont know the line call and thus what Sow's blocking responsibility was?
Yes or no, its possible his assignment was to punch the inside guys shoulder to help his athleticlly inferior guard make a difficult reach block?
Yes or no, its acceptable pass blocking from a tackle to take a speed rusher 5 yards upfield away from his QB?
Now i can acknowledge its possible Sow should have taken an aggresive drop step and done a better job of walling Anderson off so he couldnt bend around the edge and he made a mistake punching the DT first, he is a rookie playing in his first NFL game.
However, i find it more likely based on the film that the guard had been being beat like a drum and they wanted to take away inside pressure first. A sound tactic in my mind as then all Sow has to do is get a hand on the DE and push him past the spot so your QB can step up. If thats the case then i would grade Sow on the play an A-. He is probably the 5th lineman i would blame on that play for why it went awful. Could he have gotten a better punch on the DT so the guard could get him? Maybe. Could he have pushed Anderson another yard further upfield? Maybe. But you are nitpicking and expecting perfection if you do.
So without debating play by play a person can make an analysis just based on what their eyes see the entire game. I only offered the one example because I was asked by Kasmir, and that blew up from there.
Here is ONE draft analysis that I got from googling, and it's my opinion as well after watching the entire game. Weaknesses: Off balance and overextends. Lacks footwork in space (Tony Pauline).
This was my take of Sow at tackle (Pauline's analysis was as a guard). I didn't mean to say Anderson was "lazy." He might have been working or setting up something, but it looked to me like even though Sow won some reps (oddly on technique), he was off balance nearly every play, and NFL players will chew that up when it counts. I don't know if it's something he can overcome.
