Sidy Sow - Conflicting Opinions

Not open for further replies.
You said, "The writers can be idiots." I was posting off your comment. Plus, here's been at least two other writers who have left Sow off the 53 (which I disagree with).

I've been positive about the team and draft since last season ended. I am not here to trash the team or players. . Discussions like these are met by personal attacks and misinformation.

I understand why good posters have left the board. Opinions are not appreciated.

Read what you said, that the writer is characterized as an idiot because he disagreed "with a homer point of view." I didn't say that, nor did I do that. You made it up, and in doing so mischaracterized what I said. Now you are doing it again.

Opinions based on provided evidence or articulated experience are very much appreciated. Opinions that mischaracterize what others have said in order to support a predetermined agenda are not. Good posters appreciate that distinction and stick around.

When people disagree with your opinion by looking at the tape and seeing something different than you thought you saw, that isn’t attaching you, it’s correcting your misconception.
You appear to want to have opinions that no one is allowed to disagree with. What good posters left the board because people disagreed with their opinions?

If anything, it is a sign that his stock is up.

The writers can be idiots.

What part did I make up? The writer listed Sow as having a DOWN day, you disagreed, and said writers can be idiots.

You took what the writer actually said and added that Sow lined up against Judon and this is a positive. Fine it's an opinion, but how have I mischaracterized what you said?

You still defend that Sow went 5 for 5 against Anderson when clearly the evidence presented was that snap was not a win by any standards, so clean up your own misconceptions.

By assigning my views as being influenced by something called "homer", as if there is a pre existing agenda and motive.

I haven’t been arguing with you on that. But you are wrong. Last I saw was your argument was Anderson was lazy and you are sure even though he didn’t beat Sow he would have if he did something different. It may be you don’t understand what you are watching as well as others, so that would be the reason god gave you 2 ears and 1 mouth.

I apologize. It sounded that way, but I was referring to the group, not you individually.

Even though you are wrong here, you are a good poster .

It's you don't understand what a win is.

You can call that a tie, or no contest, but a win?

So was that a loss for Anderson?

The pivot from your opinion doesn’t matter because you are a homer, and therefore incapable of evaluation to patronizing.

Did Anderson make a play?
The pass rusher is supposed to get to or at least pressure the QB.
The OL is supposed to make sure he doesn’t.
Which happened? In addition by the way to Sow helping with the DT.

Just because it was a jailbreak doesn't mean Sow won the rep.

Sow made the best of a bad situation. The play was screwed from the start because the offensive line should have shifted to the right, it was a bad line call by either Ferentz or Zappe not recognizing the overload on the right side and making the adjustment. If there was a pocket to step up into, Zappe could have made a play, Will Anderson was pushed out of the play by Sow, who also hindered the interior DT. It was a head's up play by the rookie OT.

Just because it was a jailbreak doesn't mean Sow won the rep.
Just because other defenders got a rush doesn’t mean Anderson did. He was out of the play.
Sow rode him beyond the QB and Zappe stepped up in the pocket that wasn’t there. If the other 4 held their blocks Anderson has no impact on the play.

You say jailbreak as if everyone else got there so fast Anderson didn’t have time to, but Anderson was ridden past the QB and out of the play.

And again... go watch the entire game over again, Sow was dominant the rest of the game.

Instead of focusing on a single snap that might prove Will Anderson did something.... he didn't, he had one tackle in the game.

While I give you credit for having the courage and honesty to actually post the play in question, it actually had the opposite effect from what you intended: if that's your hand picked example of Sow doing poorly, he must have actually done really well on the other plays.

Not everyone understands the game or line play. It can sure look scary when a pass rusher takes a wide rush, coming fast. But what the OT is supposed to do is force him too wide past the QB so he is taken out of the play. That’s what happened. Anderson was nullified. It appears some people think that pass blocking is supposed to mean you stone the guy in place. Not how the game works.

The only reason Anderson didn't get there first is others had a straighter shot. Sow was beaten off the first step.

Let's see how the joint practices and game goes. I suspect we will see a lot of Sow. As a homer, I would like to be wrong.

For his size Sow was one of the most athletic offensive linemen in his draft class. You’re correct, a lack of athleticism is a terrible take.

300+lb men moving that speed would be terrifying….

Yes or no, we dont know the line call and thus what Sow's blocking responsibility was?

Yes or no, its possible his assignment was to punch the inside guys shoulder to help his athleticlly inferior guard make a difficult reach block?

Yes or no, its acceptable pass blocking from a tackle to take a speed rusher 5 yards upfield away from his QB?

Now i can acknowledge its possible Sow should have taken an aggresive drop step and done a better job of walling Anderson off so he couldnt bend around the edge and he made a mistake punching the DT first, he is a rookie playing in his first NFL game.

However, i find it more likely based on the film that the guard had been being beat like a drum and they wanted to take away inside pressure first. A sound tactic in my mind as then all Sow has to do is get a hand on the DE and push him past the spot so your QB can step up. If thats the case then i would grade Sow on the play an A-. He is probably the 5th lineman i would blame on that play for why it went awful. Could he have gotten a better punch on the DT so the guard could get him? Maybe. Could he have pushed Anderson another yard further upfield? Maybe. But you are nitpicking and expecting perfection if you do.
