Right. It means to take out his head.
The quarterback should be allowed to get his head taken off if he goes out to block. That’s the risk you take.

Should be allowed (from a legal standpoint), and should have his head taken out (as encouragement/suggestion) are 2 different things.

You understand that “take his head off” does not necessarily imply that defenses should be hitting him illegally, correct? Brady should get trucked whenever he blocks. That he doesn’t speaks to the pure volume of respect he has from players around the league.

When a QB involves himself in a play, in a way that's not standard to the QB, defenders should beat the hell out of him. That's always been the line of thought, and for good reason. Why are you trying to make that out as a problematic take?

You'd think people wouldn't get all wiled up about this considering how one of the many options people on this site comes up with stopping the option play is lighting up the qb.

I don't listen Sharpe. Thus, I don't know if this is bias. However, you would think a former offensive player (TE) would appreciate a QB who made a great block versus the comment he made.

What goes through a defender's head while involved in a tackle with a QB is vastly different than some ex-player puppet recommending from his couch. That's no different than Bountygate, minus the rewards.

I'm not sure what has possessed you to think you have any kind of argument on your side, here. Players have been saying what Sharpe said, in one form or another, for a long, long time.

Here's an example from 2013:

If Seahawks QB Russell Wilson tries to block, Falcons will 'take a good shot at him'

There's a reason the NFL changed the rules so that QBs can't be drilled after a turnover, after all.

Shannon Sharpe is an idiot, but it's true that if Brady is going to block, he's fair game, within the rules. If you watch the play, however, he gave a minimal block that didn't hurt him or the recipient and knocked the guy off his line, which of course was the intent. I'm sure he didn't even see Brady coming, which is good.

No need for everyone to go all-insulting on each other. Where's your holiday spirit, d%#*!@t!

The delicateness of some on this board is concerning

Eh. He doesn’t hate him. Sharpe has said lots of times Brady is GOAT. He’s playing a character.

If Skip was anti Brady Shannon would be a Tom fanboy.

Shannon has always hated the Patriots since his days as a Bronco player.
"Call out the National Guard, cos we're killing the Patriots!" - Shannon Sharpe.

This just continued in his irrational dislike of Tom because Tom > Elway. And Shannon doesn't want to admit that any player is better than him or his teammate. Even if Shannon didn't get paid to do it, he would tweet negative **** about Tom Brady, I'll guarantee that!

Many of us come here to avoid the fake outrage and cancel culture of media/social media. Let’s keep this a “safe space” from that malarkey, mmkay?

The QB isn't a ball carrier on a block though. Why should anyone try to intentionally hurt a blocker just because they are a QB?

Let's take the more common case, so now every OL that comes out to block should have their kneecap taken off? The intent to injure and the urge to injure is the offense in Shannon's tweet.

Even if the QB is now Lamar Jackson on an RPO for instance, there should not be an intent to injure him from the defender, just bring him to the ground with the usual force for a normal ball carrier.

When did Sharpe advocate that they go out of their way to hurt Brady? Football is a contact sport. Blockers make contact. The defense should make contact back. Brady should, rightfully, get trucked/lit up/get his cap peeled if he’s going to go out to block. He opens himself up to that whenever he gets in front of a runner.

Oh, and by the way, “peel his cap” doesn’t mean “hit him in the knees.”

Yup, sounds a lot like what Payton and Williams wanted players to do in Bountygate.

I generally love to see a QB leveled who is running for any reason.
