Rob Ninkovich to retire?

My grandmother is way beyond Mingo.

Mine have passed away and so are they.

They're already thin at the spot. If Ealy is starting, they're thin and bad.

What is your definition of "starting"? My point is it doesn't matter who starts. I think you and I agree that Ealy can give them something at DE. The legit question is can he give them Long, Nink & Sheard-like production for 30 or so snaps.

Ealy has had his moments of awesomeness. Hes also looked like poop.

I think that is where you are going with this?

Let me be a bit more blunt, but slightly less accurate.

Ealy's a bust, and the Patriots are just taking a flyer on the guy. If he's taking up any real percentage of the snaps, and it's not in specialized situations (thus the Mingo comment), the Patriots will be frantically scouring waiver wires and Walmarts for upgrades at the position.

As for moments of awesomeness, he's basically had one, albeit at the perfect time.

Gotta love people who claim that Ealy is a bust. Totally ignore what he did with Carolina in the SB. Shows that you don't have a farking clue and your opinion isn't worth a pile of dog poop.

If you go by the Draft Value Trade Chart, Ealy was basically worth the 152nd pick in the 5th rd.

BB supports your belief re: Flyer.

I think he can give em a pass rush and make some plays. If he can give them something close to Tully Banta Cain I'll be happy.

I think Ealy has the talent but needed a kick up the butt. BB has done that by not letting him practice and earn practice repetitions. It is up to Ealy to do the rest. I guess we'll find out by the end of the training camp.

Wha? BB has deemed Ealy not having earned practice time?

If ealy takes the spot of either shears or long (flowers is going to play a lot more snaps this year too) I don't see a measurable drop off. If he has to replace both of them that's not good.

Personally I think we are going to see something like this

Flowers playing 85%+ of the snaps.
Playing as chandler jones did, DE who moves inside in obvious passing downs (3rd and long, 2 minute drill).
Larry Guy playing LDE on early downs. He can also play unsystematic in passing downs. Nink if he is here is a sub
Ealy a sub on run downs, and in the rotation on passing. Rivers a pass rusher. Wise will play whatever he can earn.

If we play 1000 downs of defense heee is about what is expect the breakdown to be (assuming DEs get a total of 2200 snaps counting the snacks they move inside)
Assuming no nink
Flowers 850
Guy. 550
Ealy. 400
Rivers. 300
Wise. 100

I don't see that as thin or weak but it is flowers and de by committee.

One correction. What the other team asked and you paid is the minimum you feel the player is worth not the max.

I don't follow. It could have been the max. Depends on what BBs range was for the player.

Huge Ninko fan, but thought he seemed slower last year, is that due to physical decline??

He has had a good run in NE and should be all set for life..

He had a blood clot leading to a 3 inch hole in his leg. I'd like to have him for one/or part of/ more because lack of experience.

Could have but doesn't mean it was.
In other words you can say he only traded a 4th for a player so that tells you he thought he was only worth a 4th. That was the inference.

34 is old for a DE and particularly one who is effort based and lacks a great athletic skill set in any case. It would not surprise me if he did and I think it would be handled much in the way Bruschi was when they let him go out there some preseason snaps to make sure he didn't have it anymore.

That's very weak, unless either a veteran has a huge jump in play, or a rookie becomes a real player in a hurry.

we will
Have to agree to disagree and let it play out on the field

I remember when I read that last year I felt ill afterwards.

It's like that scene from No Country for Old Men when Anton Chigurh is cleaning his leg.

What these guys go through to play....

Incredible.
