Player Signing Report: Patriots Acquire DeVante Parker from Dolphins

Anyone that:

1. Has an avatar of Giants sacking Brady in SB 42;
2. Says the Helmet catch was the greatest reception ever;
3. Makes fun of Brady/Patriots for losing two SBs against the Giants.

Is not a Patriots fan. Full stop.

I love how you complain to Ashley, who actually liked my post that you were complaining about...

After the Hill trade, there was a lot of speculation Parker was available for a song

I think BB realize his luck or lack their of with Rookie WR's. It wouldn't be prudent of him to put all his eggs in the Draft a couple of WR's basket.
What's his luck with rookies? 1 rookie drafted in the first 3 rounds in the last 11 years. A flip of the coin.

Great, we didn't even get the best DeVante in FA. It's Kenyatta Jomes all over again.

Everyone labels him a troll. But he reminds me of my dear friend, Mosslost. Maybe I’m not impartial…
Mosslost was a quirky test of how chill you were. Anyone who was irritated by Mosslost was pretty much wound a bit too tight.
Equating the lying, name changing know nothing db troll with him is knd of an insult to the memory of the late great Brother Mosslost
He’s fun. Where is your whimsy ?
His infantile BS doesn't require whimsy to appreciate, it requires a lobotomy to tolerate

Mac10/TommyBrady12 is the opposite of mosslost.
Amen! Brethren and cistern can I get a hallelujah ... or no?

I am shocked we got Parker for so little at such a low salary for 2 years.

They still need a CB1 too. Why is WR1 more important?
I think it depends on the player. I think you pick the very best WR, CB, LB, or O-lineman available. If they think there's an all-pro level WR but no all-pro caliber CB, LB, or O-lineman then pick the WR. Vice versa as well. We need talent.

Because they're not winning the SB this year, so the most important thing is to develop and support the second year QB.

The most important thing is to support the team. It is a team sport. Mac will be OK with the cast he has.

This article shares some of my own feelings. Parker will help but the Pats still need a number 1.

The Patriots have passing game problems and Parker is only part of the solution

The Patriots still don’t have a true WR1 after the Parker trade. That’s just not what New England should expect from him. He only put up that kind of production once. He isn’t a burner (posting a 4.46-second 40-yard dash back in 2015 at the NFL combine). He’s a possession receiver, who should be a big help to quarterback Mac Jones. But Parker isn’t that matchup nightmare that the Patriots seem to need to truly threaten defenses. He is merely an upgrade in a mediocre position group.

That’s why I wouldn’t rule out the Patriots adding another receiver during the 2022 NFL draft. My favorites include buy-low candidates like Alabama receivers Jameson Williams (a likely first-rounder) and John Metchie (a likely second-rounder). Both had torn ACLs, which will hurt their draft stock. Both are truly impressive talents that can make a big impact at the NFL level.

If I was Parker I would want to be released and sign a new contract for a lot more. Parker is way below market value, Mason was making good money for a guard. Not the same.

Mason was underpaid objectively and even more subjectively - hence the trade. More importantly the contract had zero guarantees left.
Non guaranteed contracts are just paper, good players will not bother showing up for anything until new contract with guarantees is signed
(either extension or at the least restructure w significant guarantees added). You and i would do the same.

It will be interesting to see how Parker's contract is handled bc in reality it is empty.
Its true that Gilmore played wo guarantees after the trade but there are two big differences - he only dressed for 10 games and a few padded practices after he sat out entire offseason, preseason and half of the season protecting himself + he was in the last yr of his contract.
Parker is only technically under contract for 2 cheap years. Id be surprised if he shows up esp. for TC wo guarantees and he'll definitely not play in 2023 under current terms..

I like it.

They are better than they were yesterday

Hope Agholor can get out of his lease.

I’m not sure it’s going to be Agholor as Parker makes Harry irrelevant, but his presence could help open up the offense for Agholor and Bourne.

Excellent point on these contracts.

The most important thing is to support the team. It is a team sport.

The game, as it's currently played, is about having an elite QB and (to the extent possible) surrounding him with top end weapons. The Patriots don't yet have either one. Get the weapons to help develop the QB.

Mac will be OK with the cast he has.

What are you basing this theory on?

You like Agholor over Myers on the field? Is that just more due to scheme fit?
That's a very interesting question, Joey. Let me TRY and explain my choice. I felt Aghular was very much underused last season. It seemed like he spent much of his time running clear out routes, than being an actual potential target. I don't know if that was because of Mac's rookieness, or because a belief that Aghular was limited in some way by McDaniel. I believe it was more of the former.

We all seem to want a WR who can "take the top off the defense". Well Aghular actually HAS that kind of speed. But we rarely saw him run stop and go kinds of routes, or the deep in cuts we see speed guys like Hill do routinely. Now was that because he couldn't run those kinds of routes well, or was it Mac wasn't ready to throw them in his first year. I'm hoping it was the latter and he will be better at it this season.

The passing offense this season could be greatly changed with Smith and Keane lining up at TE/FB and Wing positions creating even more dynamic problems for defenses to deal with. I don't think the addition of Parker/draft picks is going to change the fact that the running game is still going to be the heart and soul of our offense and that our passing offense is going to be based on how we can take advantage of teams that will be stacking their defenses to stop that run

As to Myers, I LOVE the kid. He is a classic overachiever, But the fact remains that he is limited as a receiver. He isn't fast. He isn't quick, and he can be taken out by good man defense. The very fact that he gets the production he DOES get is remarkable. My placing him as my 4th WR doesn't diminish what he's done. But it DOES recognize those limitations. In my humble assessment, Aghular offers a unique skill set that Myers doesn't. He can run fast. And in a league where speed kills, Myers can't kill, BUT he does have his place, but in my mind it's as quality depth.

But if say Tre Nixon or some rookie comes to camp and shows HE can do that job on the outside, I'd let go of Nelson in a nanosecond. But as of THIS moment, there is no one on the roster that can replace Aghular's skill set and until we do, we need to keep him. Just a thought
