REPORT: 'A Chance' Garoppolo Could Start Thursday Night vs Texans

I don't think there's any chance he plays, but good for BB & Josh McDaniels for keeping Bill O'Brien guessing. Now he'll have to prepare (on short notice) mainly for Jacoby, but maybe a little for Jimmy G, and maybe even a little for Julian Edelman. Can't believe more people in the media don't "get" that the Pats are trying to take every advantage of the situation that they can, including keeping the Texans guessing.

When BB and the Pats try and take advantage of any situation it is to be deemed "cheating".

BOB knows what will happen. He is a very smart man.

J&B starts
Jimmy is the backup
JE11 is 3rd string.
I agree this is how it's going to be. Wouldn't it be awesome though, if they put JG out there for warm-ups to make it look like he's going to start. BOB shown sweating it out on the sideline.

It's funny that fans think they can figure this out but coaches of other teams can't.

What would have made this spicy was if the NFL still had in place the 3rd QB rule. With that JE11 playing becomes very interesting.

Last time I remember a non-QB playing was when Tom Tupa played for the Jets vs us and did pretty damn well.

I'd rather see Brissett start and win this one for the simple reason it would be demoralizing for the teams who actually think they have a shot at getting past the Pats this season because of the suspension.

For Jimmy, it's all about pain management. Some can tolerate it better than others. Toss in some medication and, who knows?

If he does start, I can't imagine he'll be tossing bombs down the field. Some short passes and a ton of handoffs would seem to be the gameplan.

If Garoppolo comes back for the Texans game he'll have a target on his chest the size of PEDton's forehead. JJ "Late Hit" Watt would be trying to slam him down after every play.

To me the most likely scenario will be JG as the backup and Edelman in the emergency role should Jacoby go down and Jimmy not as ready as anticipated.

And Jimmy would be in pain should that happen. The question would then become ..... is the pain level manageable enough for him to continue to play and perform adequately? No one now knows the answer to this question.

I haven't done a ton of research but from what I've read it doesn't seem like there's any LT risk of playing through an AC sprain, especially only for 1 game where he'll throw it 30 times max (hello, Mr. Blount). I will say that I have sprained my AC joint while lifting and that the pain does suck. Lifting the arm straight up and doing throwing motions causes it to "click" and it's not enjoyable. I was in a men's softball league and moved from short stop to second to limit the distance and threw the ball more side arm which drastically helped (more pressure on elbow and less on shoulder). I wouldn't give that advice to Jimmy, though

We're still playing to win the game so if BB thinks Jimmy can chuck it 25-30 times when necessary, he plays.

Regardless, I see Blount with over 150 rushing yards and White/Foster with over 100 receiving yards from quick dumpoffs. Pats win, water is wet.

As DD just reminded us, they're "playing to win the game." The only thing we can take to the bank on the Tuesday afternoon before a Thursday game is that that is what Belichick will do...

Means week 4 vs Bills looks very good if this is true

Exactly. I'm viewing this more in the vein of being great news for week 4, and just assuming Brissett will be starting. It's just good news to hear.

I would go with brissett for thursday. If you start JG you are risking him getting hurt, and if that happens, he can't play in the buffalo game and his trade value drops.

You know this might not actually be a mind game. He rests the next two days, comes in on Thursday and they shoot him up and test him to see if he can go.

Bingo. All the while giving Brissett first team reps if Garoppolo can't go. They really don't lose anything by doing it this way.

In other words,

so your #1 priority is to maximize the trade value for garoppolo?

if he can play, he will play.......case closed.......not on a hunch of what the week to week trade value is going to be ..... especially if you're managing a team with large post season plans
