Rehashing the Super Bowl strip sack

Next, let's all talk about embarrassing things we did as teenagers. Then we can reminisce about missed business opportunities.

Finally we can round it out with talking about girls we liked but lacked the bravery to approach.

You’ve got to look for the good. I’m not going to tag anyone because it’s not meant as a ball washing session, but off the top of my head:

BaconGrundleCandy, maineman209, long distance, Tony2046, AtomicDawg, maust1013 and many others whom I’ve probably forgotten have provided a great amount of “new(er) talent” in the past few years.

I don’t know if it’s better or worse than in past years as I’ve never really thought about it, but the mods do a pretty good job, all of the “regulars” (way too many to name, many of whom I consider to be friends) contribute on an everyday basis, and Ian does a great job of updating things, improving our experiences, and keeping the ship running pretty smoothly. It’s no coincidence that the forum gets mentioned in major media outlets from time to time.

At any rate, I don’t necessarily think that it’s fair to suggest that there’s a lack of football content or that you can’t carry on a meaningful discussion. As a matter of fact, I learn new things all of the time. If you want an example of some crappy sites, go on some of the Steeler or Jets forums, where your IQ will drop 20 points just by looking at the main page.

I've been working on a Shelton thread but it has taking me longer than expected. Work, kids, life etc.. have been interfering.

I'm just going to say to your Freudian twisted ass that since my now ex wife decided to divorce me I feel like a kid in a candy shop. haha

Looking forward to that. Plenty of time between now and the start of the season, as we’re slowly making our way out of the fog known as the slow time of the offseason.

We were really missing that bigger body last year with the shoddy play (at times) of Branch and the injury to Valentine. If Shelton can provide anything like what Branch did, Valentine and even Butler can also help in the rotation and things should be a lot better.

Yeah. Not to offend fnord's sensibilities on taking a second look at things retrospectively, but there was a Yeats' poem, The Second Coming I believe, that foretold that very problem: Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon Foxborough.

Even if we had taken the lead that Hightower/Malcolm Butler Less D would have given it all back...the D that keeps on giving.

My life has been absolute hell lately lol. Working 6-7 days/8-12 hrs a day tryna finish a School but im kicking myself for not making time at night but by 7-8 I'm so beat.

100% will post in my own thread in the draft forum & pats film study tonight. No excuses.

Ok,,,Hello all and as much as I am over the loss I would like to share my ' opinion '.
If I recall this play was just before the 2 Minute Warning and I remember telling my son,,,ok Josh 2 yards to go before the timeout,,,Run the Ball !
I really was sure TB12 was going to drive us down for a TD and why shouldn't I after how he shredded the Defense the whole game. Just didn't want to score too early.
Of all the reasons why we lost ,,I believe the injury to Cooks was the main reason. With him we might have scored 45-50 .
Our Defense were never going to make that stop. GO PATS

I forgot about the Cooks injury. Damn, with Edelman out, Cooks gone and Hogan not the same after his injury, the receiving corps was in disarray. No wonder Brady locked in on Gronk.

Chris Hogan had 128 yards receiving in the SB. I believe the only 2 WRs to have more yards in the SB in the last 15 years are Deion Branch and Danny Amendola.

Danny Amendola had 152 yards receiving in the SB, and Chris Hogan had 128, like you said. I don’t think that Brady necessarily locked in on Gronk. It was a team effort.

Hope things slow down for you soon. Post whenever you get a chance, whether that’s in a week or a month. Good luck with school. There will be plenty of football to discuss, soon.

Thank you for bringing time up. This is the primary reason why I do fault Brady (or Josh, I suppose) for the strip sack. Given how easy it was to move the ball for both teams, leaving little time on the clock should have been of utmost importance. Perhaps even more than an individually "successful" play. As such, a chunk play created unnecessary problems - and that's assuming it worked. The attempt itself opened the door to a whole host of other potential pitfalls.

The following has been edited a good deal for clarity.

Given how everything unfolded, we're left with two potential options: either everything was going to plan and Brady was waiting for the first read to come open or the throw wasn't immediately obvious and Brady lingered anyway. The problems with the latter are obvious, but the former is just as problematic. If the play was that slow developing, Tom had enough time to run through the progression and he should have bailed the second he saw how open White was. The overall game situation suggests that - in either case - it was a rare lack of awareness on Brady's part.

Assuming, that is, that taking your sweet time wasn't a specific coaching point on that play. Then it falls on Josh for making such a terrible play call.

IMO, if we must accept a deep attempt, the first read should have been ditched immediately after it was any less than a layup.
You can’t “ditch a read” before thevroote is complete.
And it was a deep route it was about a 12 yard out.

There is simply no good reason for Tom to have not worked through the progression faster
How can you work through a progression faster? The primary route was a 12 yard out. Your move to the second progression cannot happen faster than the time it takes to run the 12 yard out.

and even less reason for him to have not recognized that White was uncovered.
He doesn’t and isn’t supposed to care about the checkdown until the primary route is decisioned
I’m afraid you just dint understand how it works.

The overall game situation was he needed to drive 67 yards in 2 minutes with 1 timeout and a FG did him no good. Time was his enemy not his friend.
Assuming taking your sweet time wasn't a specific coaching point on that play, of course. Then it falls on Josh for making such a terrible play call.
He didn’t “take his sweet time”, he looked off the safety and can’t back to his primary route a 12 yard out and the OL couldn’t protect long enough.

...Of all the reasons why we lost, I believe the injury to Cooks was the main reason. With him we might have scored 45-50...
Not having the Lost Little Cookie was the LEAST of the reasons why we didn't win.

I do however like your suggestion of running the ball on 2nd/2 just before the 2:00 warning.

Jonathan Hankins is still available.

Vinnie Valentine will go the way of Malcolm Mitchell. Book it.

Of course you can. Hell, they can essentially get ditched at the first step off the LOS

What???!!! How can you not work through them while you are waiting? You can't even survey the field and decide to evaluate another option until after the primary route has been 100% eliminated?? What if the opposing player covering your 3rd option fell down? In Andy-land the QB would be completely unaware of it until after the primary had run 12 yards. smdh

I’m afraid you just dint understand how it works.

LMFAO, it's apparent to everyone but you that you "just dint understand" how any of this works whether it be football or effective debating. Here's a hint, spouting nonsense repeatedly until everyone else eventually walks away in disgust doesn't mean you won the argument. It simply means you are too small minded to consider and learn from the points others are making and as such you have effectively lost twice.

There is no point discussing how an nfl pass play works with someone who doesn’t understand the basics, so I’ll leave you to your ignorance.
