Rehashing the Super Bowl strip sack

Trolls on every NFL forum. If they're not trolls then they are choosing to be miserable in a winning era that will probably never be duplicated. I wonder how they'll cope when it all disintegrates? I'm enjoying the ride. It's a shame they missed it.

It's gotten much worse since SB LI, it's getting harder and harder to have good football conversations around here.

Or they may not. The play call was fine. Gronk was coming open. The blocking broke down.

It would but that’s not what he did. He saw the coverage and that coverage dictated his #1 target was gronk. That’s not “locking on” that’s executing the play.

No it’s an nfl offensive play that has a primary receiver running a slow developing route.

The play call and coverage says gronk is the primary. Brady is liking off the safety. When he comes back to gronk just about ready to throw, the hit happens, and when he sees the hit coming he tries to dump to white but it’s too late. Textbook qb progressions.

You don’t understand how am nfl pass play works.

He did, and he was right, he just needed better blocking.
I'm not sure if I understand your logic on this one. Let's say you see a guy wide open running down the seam or on the sideline, you would ignore him because he wasn't your order of progressions? Or are you just applying it to White because it's a measly gain?

I’m surprised Kontra didn’t challenge Andy again on progressions like in an earlier thread.

I would’ve taken the check down as it was open from the snap. Take the 10+ yards and get out of bounds.

I would have thrown a 70 yard laser for a TD to win the game

Good god everyone. Brady threw for 505 yards, 3 TD 0 INT and had a 115.4 QB rating. Don't make it like this one play was the reason we lost.

Brady indeed had the statistical game of his life. It's clear that the Pats win if one of two things were true: 1) there was no strip sack; 2) there was one more defensive stop

The short crosser to Amendola was kind of an option as well but he (Dola) would have been punished for it. I don’t think I’m going to a deep breaking out there, though. In the wake of that, I had wondered if they fooled Brady.
Agreed I was just speaking in general abt where/when he might look someones way.

On this play the coverage correctly identified that gronk should be open. The blocking didn’t hold up.
Again I was just speaking in general. From play to play. Depending on what their tryna do progressions can change quickly.

I’m saying the qb doesn’t just drop back and survey the field to find who is open.
On this play Brady read the defense, knew gronk was his 1, looked to the left middle to draw the safety away, then came back to gronk, saw what he expected to see and was preparing to throw to gronk.
When the pressure got there he saw white and tried to check it down (because now he didn’t have time to get it to gronk) but was hit first.
It very likely that he never saw white before the last seconds because his job isn’t to watch white.
It would be wonderful if a qb could watch all
5 receivers at once and inatananeoualy be looking at the guy who gets open but it’s unrealistic

The Pats could have scored to go ahead on that drive but the defense would have just allowed the Eagles to drive right down the field in the time remaining and kick a game winning FG I have zero doubts.

It seemed like you were actually playing corner
Absolutely not. I would’ve easily taken out Jeffrey if I were playing.

And if I was playing QB, i’d shred any defense.

Again I was just speaking in general. From play to play. Depending on what their tryna do progressions can change quickly.
Of course but that doesn’t mean looking at the play in hindsight you and deciding what the progressions could/should have been is reasonable.

Brady held onto the ball too long and missed a wide-open James White on that play. However, there is no guarantee Brady would have led his team to a touchdown even if the fumble didn’t happen.

Or that if we DID score with any more than 10- 15 seconds left our defense would have protected the lead.

Come to think of it... Say we scored a td with 20 seconds and misses the 2 pt conversion. I don’t remember how many timeouts philly had but if it were 2 or more id probably have expected a loss more than a win at that point, which is pretty freaking sad.

If defense could actually make any ****ing stops, the strip sack wouldn't have mattered anyway. lol.

Ok,,,Hello all and as much as I am over the loss I would like to share my ' opinion '.
If I recall this play was just before the 2 Minute Warning and I remember telling my son,,,ok Josh 2 yards to go before the timeout,,,Run the Ball !
I really was sure TB12 was going to drive us down for a TD and why shouldn't I after how he shredded the Defense the whole game. Just didn't want to score too early.
Of all the reasons why we lost ,,I believe the injury to Cooks was the main reason. With him we might have scored 45-50 .
Our Defense were never going to make that stop. GO PATS

Amazing to lose a game when your QB throws for over 500 yards. This defense will get some parts back but it still has a lot to prove this upcoming season.

You’ve got to look for the good. I’m not going to tag anyone because it’s not meant as a ball washing session, but off the top of my head:

BaconGrundleCandy, maineman209, long distance, Tony2046, AtomicDawg, maust1013 and many others whom I’ve probably forgotten have provided a great amount of “new(er) talent” in the past few years.

I don’t know if it’s better or worse than in past years as I’ve never really thought about it, but the mods do a pretty good job, all of the “regulars” (way too many to name, many of whom I consider to be friends) contribute on an everyday basis, and Ian does a great job of updating things, improving our experiences, and keeping the ship running pretty smoothly. It’s no coincidence that the forum gets mentioned in major media outlets from time to time.

At any rate, I don’t necessarily think that it’s fair to suggest that there’s a lack of football content or that you can’t carry on a meaningful discussion. As a matter of fact, I learn new things all of the time. If you want an example of some crappy sites, go on some of the Steeler or Jets forums, where your IQ will drop 20 points just by looking at the main page.

Good point abdul. The other side of the argument could theoretically state that the offense may have actually improved once Cooks went out, which I’ve certainly heard suggested from time to time.

I don’t know if that is true or not, or if we even have a clear hint either way, but it may have allowed more experienced postseason performers like Amendola to see more reps, and could have helped his 152 yard performance a good bit.
