Ravens owner admits to considering non-football factors with Kaepernick

My biggest problem with Kaepernick's protests is that he's not even genuine about it. Once he figured out teams weren't going to hire him, he very openly promised he would not be kneeling anymore if he were picked up by another team. So protesting black oppression turns out to be not quite as important to him as NFL money. How is that standing behind his principles? It's literally the definition of selling out. I'm amazed more pundits haven't brought this up.

Didn't know that. If that's the case, then he's pathetic. At least have the backbone to stand up for what you believe in when the going gets tough. Just looked it up, though, and it was from the old, reliable "anonymous source" which, the majority of the time, is simply the person who wrote the article and was told by his editor that it's a slow news day and they need to pick up the pace.

Yep, reported by ESPN and Schefter, among others. Not only does he plan to not kneel, but he plans to STAND for the anthem. Totally disingenuous.

"After starting a national dialogue by refusing to stand during the national anthem last year, Colin Kaepernick plans to stand for the anthem this year.

Kaepernick believes there has been positive change in America and doesn’t want to detract from that, so he’ll no longer kneel during “The Star-Spangled Banner” in 2017, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

It’s hard not to be cynical and believe that Kaepernick is heading into free agency wanting to maximize his value and doesn’t want teams planning to bid on his services to view him as a distraction. Kneeling during the anthem wouldn’t preclude teams from signing him — plenty of other players refused to stand for the anthem last season and their teams were OK with it — but it could cause him to be viewed as a player who wouldn’t make a great face of a franchise.

By pledging to stand, Kaepernick can remove any doubts his stance caused. Now the question is whether any team thinks Kaepernick is a good enough passer to lead a team."

Well in fairness he had successfully ended racism in America by kneeling so the job is over.

What a chickenshit. This pretty much proves that his kneeling was nothing more than an attention seeking move. Not that most people didn't already know that.

He's right...
The positive change ====>>> no Kaepernick

The negative change =====>> preachy Ray Lewis has reappeared...but not his missing white suit

Still has enough talent & potential to be a QB2 in this league. Not every QB2 is a Jimmy Garapollo. :)
Too bad he also screwed the pooch for Miami by mouthing off as an ignorant Fidelista.

Disagree. The only way he can not suck is to dumb firm your offense to what he can do (pistol with lots of QB running) and surround him with a great ol and lots of skill players. Oh and a top d too.
Pretty much any 2 could succeed under the conditions it would take for him to succeed.
Kaeoernick is 4-20 in his last 24 starts.

Doesn't his change in stance appease you? You've won! He made a political statement, got nuked for it, has modified his behavior accordingly and will honor the flag as you wanted him to, by standing. What more do you want?

I supported his right to kneel so I'm not sure exactly what the hell you're talking about.

Ah, all right, misunderstood where you were coming from, sorry about that. Point remains though for the people who opposed him kneeling: we done now? This was a nonviolent protest too.

Not really. This guy didn't believe in his own cause, and it's reprehensible to pull some sort of race con job to make yourself richer by selling out the very people you say you're protesting for.

"Despite the ongoing narrative that Kaepernick’s very public political views are preventing any NFL teams from offering him a roster spot, TheDC’s source claims Kaep himself has turned down at least one contract in the hopes of stirring up a media frenzy that eventually leads to a more lucrative deal.

Kaepernick allegedly doesn’t want to make “backup money” and specifically instructed his representative team not to sign one contract offered at the league’s minimum rate of $900,000 per year for a seventh-year player."

I wasn't going to bump this thread again but, now that it's been bumped, the answer is no. I'd actually respect him a lot more if he actually had the backbone to stand up for what he believed in in the face of adversity (even if I didn't agree). But, in the end, he's proven that he really didn't believe in this and simply did it for the attention that it drew to him as his career was starting to spin down the toilet. Now it's been flushed, has been pumped through the sewage treatment plant, and the plant manager has zero plans to use it for reclaim purposes... all because he listened to the idiot that he's dating.
