I really like Alex Austin and he has the size, skill and mentality to play CB st a high level.. but to have a chance to totally lock down the perimeter with a player the caliber of jaire Alexander across from gonzo I think Vrabel probably still inquires.
Real: Austin is a tease I want a real CB no pun opposite Gonzo.

Fair - CB is one position group at least where if they signed an injury-prone guy and he went down, they would have experienced players who can step up - whether that's Alex Austin or putting Marcus Jones outside again. Jonathan Jones will most likely come back on a cheap deal as well as a CB4/CB5.
Jonathan Jones burnt toast.

Agreed there. CB 2 is a sneakily a needed position as like Vrabel said so many teams play with multiple DBs on the field so the need is apparent. Ideally you'd want marcus/jon in the slot where they use thier skill sets better. I also like bolden, dial to also make a case for themselves this camp.

Oh definitely my brother.. Austin is probably the 2nd best CB on the team. He has some real coaching now so let's see if it impacts his game. I still want my guy Alexander.

I never felt that Godchaux was anything better than a mediocre run stuffer. Also some of his comments at the end of last year were somewhat strange. I will shed no tears for him to leave this team.
I doubt anyone ponies up a draft pick for him.

He never made any impact during his time here. I never understood what BB saw in him as a player.. during the Jags game he was the target being run on 17x I'm a row. Good for him he got paid the 6th rounder we get for him will probably be more impactful

The hardos on here that fancy themselves X and O experts loved to tell anyone that criticized Godchaux that they just didnt understand what Godchaux does because they don't understand schemes. I think the run defense as a whole the last few years proved Godchaux wasn't any better than an average 2 gap style NT.

It was because BB said he was one of the Best DT's in the game...but we know he was losing his fastball as HC and Talent Evaluator.

Right on the money! Like you I've watched and analyzed patriots football especially the last few seasons since he's been here. He's serviceable at best.. he's a one trick pony and that's even saying to much. Vrabel and Williams are playing a one gap style a much more modern aggressive defense that allows the nose or the DT to penetrate and shoot the gap. You want guys like Mason Graham or Milton Williams or BJ hill who are are beast at the position ideally.

BB only said that to justify his signing of him.. just like last season when he said they aren't soft.. let's see how many remains Tavai? Next..

Oh no.....My intent was to support your point. You aren't wrong. 310-320lb for DTs is small these days lol.

They aim to play a 4 man front. DEs on the edge are smaller.

According to Kyed...

Sorry, misunderstood your point.

They will still need a nose tackle
Milton Williams is a specialist pass rushing dt who isn’t really first down suited well imo
There is a role in this defense for a nose tackle , if you look at the lions defense alim mcneil is 320 as well

I don't think you are wrong. They just want players why can be stout vs the run and generate a pass rush all along the line

Possibly Bentley. Vrabel seems to prefer smaller, quicker linebackers. Don’t know whether his contract makes it feasible though.
I feel that Bentley is underappreciated here personally.
What do I know, I'm JAG.
