It probably is unrelated. I don’t think he fits the attacking style Vrabel seems to want to play and it’s a deep DT class.Hmm, does it mean Barmore is back ? I hope.
They are being fair to the player. I'd say there's some respect there. My hunch is that he wasn’t much of a leader. He was also wildly inconsistent so of they can dump his contract and get a sixth it’s a win.
Trading him (beofre June 1st) frees up $1.7M of cap space this year. His salary gets replaced by whoever takes his spot on the roster though, so it's basically net nothing. Vrabel's scheme seemingly favors 1 gap DTs vs. 2 gaps, so Godchaux probably doesn't fit as well. He's a fine player in his role, but that role doesn't fit everywhere. I think this is just the case of them not wanting to keep vets that will be unhappy with their role, so better for both sides to move on.
My view is both of these are correct. Godchaux seemed like he was on the chopping block based on how Tennessee ran its defense. He also seemed to talk a decent amount in the press but his words didn’t really impact other players, so he doesn’t seem to be one of the leaders in the locker room. Might as well see what we can get for him if he isn’t going to be a bit going forward. My hunch is that he wasn’t much of a leader. Possibly Bentley. Vrabel seems to prefer smaller, quicker linebackers. Don’t know whether his contract makes it feasible though.Any other players that got extensions not going to be fits / trade candidates?
Godchaux, Bentley, Tavai and to a lesser extent Jennings all have skill sets that don’t fully jive with what was done in Tennessee, who all signed extensions from 2023 onward. But you’re not going to get rid of everyone in one offseason, especially those who are team captains like Bentley. I suspect Tavai would be the other guy who could wind up going, with Bentley and Jennings sticking around.Any other players that got extensions not going to be fits / trade candidates?

Didn’t Barmore hint vaguely of a positive update recently? It probably is unrelated. I don’t think he fits the attacking style Vrabel seems to want to play and it’s a deep DT class.
I kind of wonder about the feasibility of going base 4-1 dime, with Peppers playing a money backer role (with Mapu backing him up). It uses Peppers speed and hard hitting ability well. Dugger plays traditional strong safety, and we just need a McCourty-like free safety. Topic for another day I guess.Possibly Bentley. Vrabel seems to prefer smaller, quicker linebackers. Looks like Tavai is a slight cap charge if cut prior to 6/1, but essentially neutral if traded prior to then. Cutting Bentley saves you $4.6m, and Jennings about $2m, per overthecap.Gotcha, my only concern would be the dead money / wasted cap. But can’t fit a square peg into a round hole.
I haven’t heard anything but that would be awesome.Didn’t Barmore hint vaguely of a positive update recently?
Nothing is going to be guaranteed for him. But that may at least be moving the right direction.
