I don't think pursuing these upside plays on injury risks makes sense for us. We need dependability and stability. When you have glaring holes on the roster being filled by sub-NFL caliber players, it puts everyone else in a tough spot development wise because now they're forced to play out of position or less developed schemes to accommodate for that weakness. CB across from Gonzo is one of those spots. Alexander would fill it obviously... unless or until he's out injured again in which case we're back to playing the same bums that take away from everyone else's development.

It'd be different if we were a stacked team and just needed to fill one hole. Then I'd just gamble on having him healthy for the playoffs. But for where we're at, I don't think injury risks make the most sense for us.
Yeah - I would prioritize a mid tier guy who who is solid and stays healthy over a higher upside guy with an injury history. With a few exceptions, of course.

Bill used to say the most important ability is reliability
So true

My hunch is that he wasn’t much of a leader. He was also wildly inconsistent so of they can dump his contract and get a sixth it’s a win.
Inconsistent under Mayo.

No one could stop the run under Mayo and Covington.

Based on the type of Defense that Vrabel and his DC like to run, Milton Williams FA DL of the Eagles is looking like a target. He's young and combined with the type of DL/EDGE that they like and this draft is loaded with, he'd be a nice young veteran player to put with rookies. Can you imagine Williams and his teammate Josh Sweat a long with Barmore/White, and then whatever defensive players that they draft?

What happens if no offers for Godchaux?

Make sense. Vrabel likes a smaller and faster defense. Godchaux doesn't fit that system as a big body.

Yea looking at their DTs from the Vrabel days they were all in the 310-325 range.

They had one dude who was 361. Sheesh..

They'll cut him.
“Permission to seek a trade” is another way to say “permission to try to find someone who wants to pay your current salary”.

Godchaux is slated to make $4M fully guaranteed salary this year. There’s probably not a huge market for him, so I am guessing teams would rather just wait for him to be cut and then be able to sign him for the veteran minimum. He will be making $4M from the Pats regardless. A team would need to love him so much that they think some other team will pay him even more than that and so they need to trade for him to lock him down at his current salary. Not super likely.

Great to see. Godchaux sucks and can’t keep a guy who gets skull fuked in the trenches by most IOL, then has the nerve in postgame inverviews to throw teammates under the bus. He is definitely not a Vrabel guy. We need grown men in the trenches with maturity and physicality.

Man…if you add him to that FA class, what a BRUTAL stretch of rosters decisions that have been made for literally 5 years

Not super likely indeed. Although there is a chance that a team that just wants him as a run stuffer only and even than only in certain packages, it's possible he could get scooped up by another team.

$4m is a good price for him. In the right system/coaching hes fine.

They want pass rushers here. Plain and simple and hes not that.

It’s not bad but do other teams want to pay that or would they rather wait for him to be cut and then pay him the minimum. If they think they might have some competition though then they might spring the extra $3M and a 7th rounder. He’s also on the books for $6.5M next year, though not guaranteed.
