I kind of wonder about the feasibility of going base 4-1 dime, with Peppers playing a money backer role (with Mapu backing him up). It uses Peppers speed and hard hitting ability well. Dugger plays traditional strong safety, and we just need a McCourty-like free safety. Topic for another day I guess.
In Vrabel's last year, he had Kevin Byard, Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden so I think the 3 safety formation is a real possibility.

Wonder of we could flip him for the Redskins DT that wants out

Possibly Bentley. Vrabel seems to prefer smaller, quicker linebackers. Don’t know whether his contract makes it feasible though.
Bentley is in the final year of his contract. Trading him frees up 4.6M in cap space.

Not sure who would be interested in Bentley..

Any other players that got extensions not going to be fits / trade candidates?
Bourne should be outright cut... he's only considered great here.

Godchaux and a 7 for Landry.

Gotcha, my only concern would be the dead money / wasted cap. But can’t fit a square peg into a round hole.

Trading those 4 would free up cap space in each instance. Godchaux freeing the most and Tavai the least.

Player trades still happen very infrequently. The idea that the Pats could trade 4 players away is just wishful thinking on some people's parts.

Jennings is the one I wouldn't trade away. He came out of a 1Gap system in College and it took years for him to acclimate to the 2Gap. I think he could easily slide back into the 1-Gap system..

I'm good with this.

A darling to many on this board. A run stopper on a bad run defense. See you later Davon.

Davon and a third to the Bengals for Higgins.

I love it!

I called this one a couple weeks back in one of the threads here... Don't remember which. Figured it'd happen. Not a bad player but with the scheme change and some of the locker room stuff last year, makes sense. Get a 6th for him and move on.

Please pretty Please can I have him says gonzo... we will play well together!!
I don't think pursuing these upside plays on injury risks makes sense for us. We need dependability and stability. When you have glaring holes on the roster being filled by sub-NFL caliber players, it puts everyone else in a tough spot development wise because now they're forced to play out of position or less developed schemes to accommodate for that weakness. CB across from Gonzo is one of those spots. Alexander would fill it obviously... unless or until he's out injured again in which case we're back to playing the same bums that take away from everyone else's development.

It'd be different if we were a stacked team and just needed to fill one hole. Then I'd just gamble on having him healthy for the playoffs. But for where we're at, I don't think injury risks make the most sense for us.
