Rappaport: Welker still waiting for the Pats' first offer

Actually, Jack, if you bothered to look at Cruz's 2011 stats, you'd see that the logic was very sound. You'll notice that his number of 30+ yard receptions dropped for him from 2011 to 2012 despite him catching more passes. Also, he lost 6 yards per reception from 2011 to 2012.

Actually, DaBruinz, YTY fluctuations in those metrics have a lot more to do with extraneous factors than with Cruz himself.

His YAC went down about 260 yards, is that due to "extraneous factors" as well?

In 2011, Cruz juked a couple of Jets players out of their jocks and took a short pass to the house. If he's tackled by the first guy who took a terrible approach to his attempt, you're looking at about 80 fewer YAC on one play alone.

Sometimes (not always), it's that easy.

An hour and a half until Welker is released into the wild....

Jack - I suggest you go back and read the original post you replied to because Marqui was the one who claimed that Cruz ran deep routes "All the time."

Now, I offer up proof that he didn't and you try and deflect it to be something out of Cruz's control.

Yet you can't explain the drop in his YPC by 29% (from 18.7 to 12.7). Or the fact that he had 5 games where he put up 40 yards or less.

I'm going to be flat out honest. He reminds me of Peerless Price and Alvin Harper..

Well, let's say he did/does. I'm saying stat fluctuations between two years aren't going dispositive that, in fact, he doesn't, if the stats are lower than they were the year before. It's not that simple is all I was saying.

Reiss just reported there is an offer on the table.

He said what Rappaport is reporting runs counter to what they had heard (there was an offer on the table). My stance on this whole thing is that at age 32 (going into next season) anything more than 2 years is a risk. If Welker is looking for 4 years @ 7-8m I'd hope the Patriots pass. If he's willing to take 3 at around 6 is where things get tricky. If BB feels like a younger, faster, taller(albeit more expensive and relatively unknown in working in this offense) is a better risk to take than Welker at 3 years, I'm all for it.

Did the Herald make a dubious clame AGAIN? Say it isn't so.
These morons know nothing about what is really going on.

Phones are about to start ringing. I imagine we will have reliable news pretty soon.

If Welker signs do we get the white smoke signal???

I saw the black smoke from the Vatican so I knew that Welker hadn't yet signed.

Let's hope for the white smoke tomorrow!

Could be a bit of gamesmanship on Welker's part. Let free agency start, let some big name WRs sign elsewhere, see if can get Belichick to sweat a bit (and gain some retribution for whatever slight he felt when they were giving Edelman a good look) see if his price and value increases - then hopefully rounds out his career alongside Brady.
